Paul Danan's heartbroken brother insists troubled actor 'didn't mean to die' and had been sober before tragic final relapse - five months on from his drugs related death aged 46

Paul Danan 's brother Jamie has insisted the troubled actor 'didn't mean die' five months on after his death from a cocktail of drugs including cocaine and heroin. The Hollyoaks star, 46, was found unresponsive at his flat in Bristol on January 15 before being pronounced dead by emergency service workers at the scene. Jamie, 48, revealed Paul had been sober shortly before his death and he will forever treasure a memory of them attending a Prodigy gig together during that time. He told The Mirror: 'I had probably my best night out with him, He was totally clean. He was very close with Liam from Prodigy. He was sort of like an honorary member in some ways'. 'It was amazing, but, sadly, he couldn't maintain his clean time', Jamie said that his brother sadly began using drugs again around Christmas 2024, but always assumed he'd bounce back. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Speaking to the publication, he described his grief as 'raw' and 'surreal' saying that with less than two years between the pair he'd always considered his younger brother more of a twin. '[Paul] was troubled and underneath it all, he found things difficult which is why he relied on drink and drugs, that pressure was just taken off him in the end. He certainly didn't mean to die. Just whatever happened, happened, unfortunately. Paul had been staying in a 'dry house' - homes made to help with addiction support. In 2020 he moved back in with his parents in Essex after he became homeless having spent a reported £1million on rehab and recovery over the years. Speaking about his drug problems, the actor explained on a podcast that he was introduced to cocaine before going on to use crystal meth and heroin. Talking about his addictions and treatment during lockdown he said: 'I will probably go to Bristol … go and live in a dry house, I need to carry this on and be in a house with addicts who are in recovery.' Danan had been due to appear for a plea hearing at Warrington Magistrates' Court on January 16 after being charged with being in possession of cocaine and cannabis, according to court documents. He was also accused of driving whilst under the influence of drugs on October 2 last year, in Warrington, Cheshire after being stopped by police at the wheel of a Fiat 500. He was charged with two counts of possessing cocaine and one of driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs and was due to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court the day after he died. He was also fined £350 in 2010 after being caught with drugs. Paul is believed to have been put forward for a TV comeback on reality show Celebs Go Dating some three years after last appearing on TV in Celebrity Coach Trip. Paul played troublemaker Sol Patrick in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks from 1997 until 2001, leaving after his character fled the country. The show won him fame and admirers - but he struggled to secure permanent acting work after his departure and struggled with substance use. He would later reinvent himself as a reality TV star, appearing on shows such as the original Celebrity Love Island, Celebrity Come Dine With Me and Celebrity Juice. He was also a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother in 2017. In what would prove to be one of his final interviews, he told MailOnline he had chosen to quit Hollyoaks to pursue a career in Hollywood - an admirable bid that never quite paid off. He said in November last year: 'Maybe years ago I shouldn't have left Hollyoaks, but I made that decision because after four years, I didn't want be typecast. 'Back then, everyone didn't want to be the next Ken Barlow. You wanted to go off and play different roles, especially when you're a real actor. 'I needed to play different roles, I mean how many storylines can one character have? I wanted to go to LA and I did. And I got very close to some very big, big films and things like that. But the rejection... the one thing I hate in life is rejection. 'I chose the one job in the world that that gives you that, go figure. But at the same time, I love it more than anything, just to be there on set and to be part of that world. It is everything that I always trained for. 'Acting is a tough job and I think you don't realise how lucky you are when you're in a soap and you've got the closest thing to a nine to five job in acting that you can get. And when you get out there, you're like s***, man, it is really tough.'

No hangovers! My sober parent survival guide

Do parenting and alcohol go hand in hand? In my experience, yes! When my son was born, nearly 11 years ago, I remember thinking how much I'd enjoyed not drinking during pregnancy. Sober socialising (for the first time in my adult life) was easier than I'd thought, and I loved hangover-free weekends. I pictured myself as a calm, glowing, alcohol-free new mother, and resolved to stay sober. That lasted until a friend offered me a glass of champagne to toast the birth. I soon realised that, from NCT drinks to bonding with other mums, to decompressing after a stressful bedtime, alcohol was just as present in my life as it had been pre-parenthood, if not more so. And it was very normalised; the #sendwine and

Michael Jordan's troubled son Marcus reveals he's seeking help after drugs and alcohol issues

Michael Jordan 's son Marcus is now officially 40 days sober - over three months after he was arrested for DUI and cocaine possession. Marcus, 34, announced the milestone with Instagram followers on Sunday along with a photo from his active day. '40 days sober & counting....' he wrote in the image. The post signaled at his hopes to continue the positive momentum, with various optimistic emojis and GIFs of a 'loading bar' and 'in progress' message. Marcus was breaking a sweat with the help of a Tonal gym, with the Drake track Mention Me soundtracking the post. But the star indulged in some sushi and a hearty beef dish later, which he shared to his Instagram as well. Marcus, who dated Larsa Pippen from 2022 to 2024, left a cryptic comment alongside one of the photos of his dinner. 'People ask what happened, I go silent,' he wrote. 'I wouldn't even speak on you, but now you wanna mention meee.' Marcus ended his weekend uploads with a mirror selfie. 'Put on a happy face,' he wrote. The milestone comes over three months after Marcus was arrested on February 4 in Florida for DUI and cocaine possession. Later that same month Marcus saw his cocaine possession charges altered after police determined the drug allegedly on him was ketamine and not cocaine, according to TMZ. It was initially believed that the white powdery substance on him was cocaine. Police did a field test on the powder which tested positive for cocaine. However, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has since established the drug was actually ketamine. The mix up reportedly happens now and then as the two drugs have the same color and texture. It is not sure how this will change his sentencing as both cocaine and ketamine are illegal drugs, however TMZ notes the change could help Marcus as the state of Florida has classified cocaine as a schedule II drug and ketamine a schedule III drug. In light of the change, his charges has now been slightly changed - Rather than possession of cocaine, Marcus' is now charged with possession of ketamine, DUI with property damage, and resisting arrest. Jordan was arrested after his Lamborghini SUV got stuck on train tracks in the early morning hours, allegedly due to his impairment. Jordan's attorneys have since entered a not guilty plea and requested a trial by jury while waving his first court appearance, a pretrial conference scheduled for March 20, according to People. Jordan also pleased not guilty to felony cocaine possession and resisting an officer without violence, which is a misdemeanor. He was arrested after police officers found his damaged SUV stuck on train tracks. Marcus allegedly pleaded with officers to help him push his car off the tracks, but they refused, and he was arrested after failing a sobriety test. During the interaction, Jordan dropped the name of his famous father while pleading with police to help him move his vehicle. Marcus and Larsa began dating in January 2023, and went as far as to share their hopes for marriage, but they ended things in March 2024.

Courtney Stodden rips into Chrissy Teigen's return to drinking alcohol in savage video

Courtney Stodden has mercilessly mocked Chrissy Teigen 's announcement that she is drinking alcohol again after four years of being sober. The 30-year-old television personality, who recently said she was suicidal after being trolled by Chrissy online, poked fun at the model not long after she had come clean about letting booze back into her life. In a video uploaded to social media over the weekend, Courtney recorded a tongue-in-cheek message while holding a glass of what looked like champagne. Speaking to the camera, she said: 'Okay breaking news. I've decided that I'm going to start drinking alcohol again. Breaking news.' Clinking her glass at the camera, she continued: 'There's nothing more important in this world than knowing that I am not sober. 'I'm having alcohol and I want everyone to know. It's just really important.' Captioning her post, she added: 'Breaking news I started drinking again too Chrissy soooo here is my official invite — let's grab a drink and bury the hatchet mama.' Last week, Chrissy wrote honestly about her complicated relationship with alcohol, acknowledging that it 'isn't normal and never will be.' In her post, she announced that she is no longer sober and revealed her plan is to 'continue to be mindful' with her intake. Chrissy had previously announced her decision to quit alcohol in December 2020, after 'my doctor and friend' sent her a book on sobriety as a birthday gift the previous month. 'I was done with making an a** of myself in front of people (I'm still embarrassed), tired of day drinking and feeling like s**t by 6, not being able to sleep,' she said at the time. Courtney's brutal post comes just a few months after she shared details about just how close she allegedly came to suicide in the wake of a brutal social media campaign against her involving stars that included Chrissy. In a trailer for the ABC News documentary IMPACT x Nightline: Confessions of a Child Bride, she said she was driven to the point of writing a suicide note as she faced an onslaught of online abuse following her marriage at just 16 to the actor Doug Hutchison, who was 51 at the time. Although she faced a wave of harassment by numerous accounts, both famous and not, it was Chrissy's post that particularly stuck out, including some in which she explicitly hoped for Stodden's death. Courtney — who is nonbinary and uses she/her and they/them pronouns interchangeably — previously called out Chrissy's vicious posts, prompting the 39-year-old model to apologize privately and publicly for the posts in 2021. Among the posts highlighted in the trailer was one from 2012, in which Chrissy wrote 'i hate you' in response to one of Courtney's posts. An even more shocking post came from a few months earlier in 2011, when the wife of John Legend tweeted directly at Stodden: '@CourtneyStodden my Friday fantasy: you. dirt nap. mmmmmm baby.' 'And I know she's saying it was from alcohol, or whatever she's saying it was from...' Courtney began, apparently referring to Chrissy's announcement in 2022 that she had quit drinking, though she doesn't appear to have ever tied alcohol to her social media posts. 'Saying this to a child when you're the queen of Twitter... it was so much,' she continued. 'I did actually almost succeed at committing suicide because of —' Courtney began, before changing course. 'That was a huge part of it,' she added. 'I had a suicide letter written. I remember my last thought was, 'Maybe I don't deserve to be here when people that high up are telling me I don't deserve to be,'' she continued. Chrissy subsequently apologized for her posts about and to Courtney in 2021, but only after they had resurfaced. At the time, she admitted to losing multiple brand partnerships over the controversy, and she took a hiatus from social media. 'I'm mortified and sad at who I used to be,' Teigen tweeted at the time. 'I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior. 'I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I'm so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am.' She added: 'And I am so sorry I let you guys down. I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, one year ago, six months ago.'
