The New York Times's recent game, "Strands," is becoming more and more popular as another daily activity fans can find on the NYT website and daily themes and "spangrams" to discover, this is the latest addicting game to cross off your to-do list before a new one pops up 24 hours cover exactly how to play Strands, hints for today's spangram and all of the answers for Strands #457 on Tuesday, June 16 Games Like Wordle To Give You Your Word Game Fix More Than Once Every 24 Hours According to the New York Times, here's exactly how to play Strands: Find theme words to fill the board. Theme words stay highlighted in blue when found. Drag or tap letters to create words. If tapping, double tap the last letter to submit. Theme words fill the board entirely. No theme words overlap. Find the 'spangram.' The spangram describes the puzzle's theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may be two words. The spangram highlights in yellow when found. An example spangram with corresponding theme words: PEAR, FRUIT, BANANA, APPLE, etc. Need a hint? Find non-theme words to get hints. For every 3 non-theme words you find, you earn a hint. Hints show the letters of a theme word. If there is already an active hint on the board, a hint will show that word's letter order. It's in beta for now, which means it'll only stick around if enough people play it every day. There's a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you'll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue. You'll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow. Be warned: You'll need to be on your toes. 'Some themes are fill-in-the-blank phrases. They may also be steps in a process, items that all belong to the same category, synonyms or homophones,' The New York Times notes. Never thought I'd see the day. I only knew about three of these offhand, CHERRY, PLUM and HEIRLOOM. I mean I've *seen* other tomatoes, but I've genuinely never heard of BEEFCAKE or LUNCHBOX tomatoes. Your Honor is just something that could be a clue or answer when it's COURTROOM that seems like it should be the answer instead, given that it's all stuff that happens inside the courtroom. I mean, not saying I wouldn't, my hair just isn't long enough for any to matter. The beginning of this puzzle was me struggling with spelling 'barrette' like four different ways before finally get it. Today's NYT Strands hints and answers Looking for Tuesday's Strands hints, spangram and answers? You can find them here: The week is now officially at its halfway mark. The weekend is rapidly approaching. Here we sit in the middle of it all with a grid laid out before us, words to uncover. Let's roll up our sleeves and start digging! Strands is the newest game in the New York Times' stable of puzzle games. It's a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we're given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board, revealing more about the rest of the words on the grid. Spoilers ahead. Read on for today's theme and some hints to help you uncover today's words. Instead of giving you the first two letters of each word, today I'm giving out three hints instead of two. Sometimes I swear I look at the grid and I see so many words, but not a single one that counts. Once I'd found PAIR and TWINS, however, it was open season. After MATCH I saw DOUBLE (heh) and when that didn't work, I kept searching until I found DOUBLETROUBLE.
