Doom: The Dark Ages review — gory, gothic and a little baggy
Demons! Shotguns! Gore! Yes, Doom is back in all its macho glory. It's now set in a world touted by its developers as the largest they've made, but is bigger really always better?
That question is tested throughout The Dark Ages, a prequel to 2016's series reboot (simply called Doom) and its sequel, Doom Eternal (2020). Everything is on a grander scale than before. Here, the first-person shooter's typically futuristic setting is swapped for a grungy techno-medieval realm filled with gothic castles and mountains.
