Trains crawl, roads waterlogged, buses diverted as Mumbai reels under heavy rain; 'yellow' alert upgraded to 'orange'

MUMBAI: Incessant rainfall on Monday led to widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls, and local train delays across Mumbai, particularly in the island city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday upgraded its weather forecast for the day from a yellow to an orange alert, indicating the possibility of intense rainfall. The alert now covers Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts. — timesofindia (@timesofindia) According to officials, continuous heavy rainfall since early morning led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas of Mumbai and on railway tracks. This caused significant disruptions to both road traffic and suburban train services during peak commuting hours. Between 9and 10am alone, Nariman Point received a staggering 104mm of rainfall, one of the highest hourly readings this season. Other parts of South Mumbai also recorded intense precipitation. Suburban train services, especially on the Central Railway (CR) and Harbour Line, were impacted due to waterlogged tracks at multiple stations. The Western Railway reported near-normal operations, though commuters reported minor delays. Local road traffic, particularly in low-lying areas, was severely affected due to water accumulation, leading to bus diversions, congestion on key arterial roads, and temporary road closures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the intensity of rainfall reduced after 10am but the sky remained overcast. According to now-viral videos, the seven accused travelled from Haveri sub-jail in Keremathihalli to Akkialur, a village in Hanagal taluk - a distance of nearly 30km - in high-end cars and souped-up bikes. — timesofindia (@timesofindia) The videos show some of the rape accused waving to people and other motorists on the way all through their hour-long drive home. According to police, the survivor had identified the seven suspects during an identification parade and given a statement to the magistrate. In all, 19 men had been taken into custody. The other 12 accused, allegedly involved in aiding and abetting the crime or physically assaulting the survivor, secured bail about 10 months ago.

'We Are Pleasing Pak Army...' Says Javed Akhtar On Banning Pak Artists In India | Pahalgam Attack Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar weighed in on the contentious issue of allowing Pakistani artists to perform in India. He highlighted the historical context, noting that while India has warmly welcomed numerous Pakistani artists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Ghulam Ali, this generosity has not been reciprocated, citing the absence of a Lata Mangeshkar performance in Pakistan despite her immense popularity there. However, he also presented a counter-argument saying that such a ban on Pakistani artists might inadvertently please the Pakistani army and fundamentalists who desire distance between the two nations.#pakistaniartists #india #javedakhtar #music #culture #geopolitics #indiapakistan #art #culturalexchange #bollywood #artists #performingarts #southasia #toibharat #pakistaniactors #indianews #crossborderrelations #culturalboycott #indiapolitics #javedakhtarstatement #nationalsecurity #artandpolitics #pahalgamattack #toi #timesofindia 2.9K views | 3 hours ago
