New tire flies off car on Hwy. 417
Ontario Provincial Police were called to a 'scary situation' for a driver and her baby when a brand-new tire flew off their car on Highway 417.
Ottawa OPP were called to the scene shortly after 9 a.m. Monday near the Rochester Street exit.
'The driver recently had her summer tires put on,' OPP East Region said in a post on X.
The wheel was later picked up by the Ministry of Transportation near Parkdale Avenue, OPP Const. Michael Fathi said in an email.
No charges were laid.
'A reminder to retorque your tires in the summer and fall,' police say.
'A wheel coming off at those speeds can be a danger to both the person driving the car and anyone the tire might hit!'
