Heartbreak as schoolgirl, 10, suddenly dies with tributes pouring in for ‘beautiful daughter
A schoolgirl has died suddenly with tributes pouring in for a heartbroken family's "beautiful daughter". The community in Pembrokeshire has now pulled together to help her family with the tragic loss. 1 Lily Wilson, 10, passed away in her home village of Simpson Cross last week from a suspected medical condition. She lived with her devastated parents Andy and Kate and little sister Eva and was a popular member of the Roch Community Primary School. Lily, described as a "loved and valued pupil" died suddenly with a post-mortem examination expected to be held to give the cause of death. Emma Robertson, a family friend, has set up a fundraising appeal to help Lily's family cover the cost of the funeral. More than £13,000 has been raised in 24 hours as of Wednesday, June 4, smashing the initial £2,000 target. The appeal reads: "Last week, dear friends Andy and Kate, suffered the most devastating sudden and unexpected loss of their beautiful 10 year old daughter Lily. "The pain of the last week is a pain no parent should ever have to imagine, let alone navigate their way through. "Lily was a loved and valued pupil in Roch community primary school and I know her friends, their parents and staff alike are all heartbroken at the sudden loss of Lily." She went on to add that friends, colleagues and the local community "desperately want to help them in any way possible". "With the permission of Kate and Andy, I would like to try and help raise funds to help with the financial burden of the funeral of beautiful Lily. "Together, we could all help ensure that Lily has the special day she deserves and take away some of that worry from Andy and Kate, so they can focus their attention on Lily's little sister, Eva." Emma also stated that with any left over money, Lily's parents want to put the funds toward a local defibrillator in Simpson Cross so others have access to "vital and life saving piece of equipment". She added: "Every rural village should have access to such vital resources. "Maybe together, we can all help this happen." The appeal urges anyone able to donate to do so while those who are unable to donate are urged to share the fundraiser.

Breslau baker selling pies to benefit Walkerton school after fatal crash
Fran Adsett says she felt like she needs to give back to the community where she grew up after hearing about the fatal crash that killed four students and a teacher from Walkerton District Community School last month. Adsett grew up in Mildmay, Ont., a neighbouring town to Walkerton, and her family is still there. She's now the owner and baker at Frannie's Restaurant and Bakery on Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph and the restaurant is known locally for its baked goods. "I have a strong background with going back home and supporting back home. So when I saw the story, my heart goes out to all of the family, the friends, the community, the team. So I just felt that I need to do something," Adsett said. "It's not just a town. It's not just a village — you're family." Four teenage girls from Walkerton District Community School were travelling home with their teacher on the afternoon of May 23 after a softball tournament east of London when they were involved in a crash with a transport truck. Rowan McLeod, Kaydance Ford, Danica Baker, Olivia Rourke and Mat Eckert were killed. Their deaths were acknowledged across Canada, including by Prime Minister Mark Carney, who wrote that it was an "unimaginable loss that no family, no classmate, no school should ever have to endure." Funeral services were held over the weekend for them. Throughout the month of June, Adsett will be selling her pies for $50, with the restaurant keeping about $14 for ingredients and the rest of the money going to the school. Adsett says she hopes the money could be used for the school's Riverhawks sports teams. "I know that there's lots of money that's going to the families, but my concern is for Riverhawks, for the actual team, so that they can have their mourning as well," she said. "They can do whatever they feel free to do in honour of all of the people that have passed away ... whether they want to do a scholarship, whether they want memorial benches, whatever the team as a family want to do, this money will go towards them." People can order a pie by contacting the restaurant.

Online fundraiser created for family of 4-year-old boy killed by bus in Horseshoe Bay
A four-year-old boy who was killed in a bus crash is shown in this photo with his mother, who was critically injured. (Image credit: gofundme/support-for-clineus-family) A GoFundMe has been launched for the family of a four-year-old boy who was killed when an articulated transit bus jumped the curb outside the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal on Wednesday. The little boy, identified as Leonardo in the online fundraiser, died at the scene. His mother, identified as Silvana, was taken to hospital in critical condition. The fundraiser says the family moved to Canada from Brazil years ago and are now Canadian citizens. It says Silvana and her husband Clineu struggled to have a child, and when they welcomed Leonardo in late 2020, they called him their 'one per cent miracle baby.' Family Image credit: gofundme/support-for-clineus-family It goes on to say: 'Silvana wanted nothing more in life than to be a mother, and she was an incredible one. She and Leo were inseparable. On that beautiful Wednesday she wanted to adventure with Leonardo to Bowen Island for the day, as they loved to travel and see new things. They had a wonderful day, sharing pictures with Clineu throughout.' Leonardo Image credit: gofundme/support-for-clineus-family The fundraiser says the family is now faced with the difficult decision of whether to bring Leonardo's body back to Brazil for burial if his mother is well enough to travel, or have their extended family fly here to say goodbye to the little boy. It says donations will be used for funeral expenses and care for Silvana as she recovers from serious injuries and mental trauma. 'Silvana's path ahead is long and uncertain. Beyond the physical trauma, there will be the overwhelming emotional toll of losing her only child,' the GoFundMe reads. 'Her care and rehabilitation will require extensive, specialized support as she works to regain both her physical ability and her sense of purpose.' Officers have spoken to the driver, but no other information has been released.

Race Across The World contestant dies aged 24 in car crash as family pay emotional tribute to star
A FORMER Race Across The World contestant has died following a tragic car crash. Sam Gardiner, 24, had been driving on the A34 near Manchester on Monday night when his car suddenly left the road, rolling before it eventually landed on its side, Greater Manchester Police said. The contestant, who featured in the BBC show's second series in 2020 alongside his mum Jo, was the only person in the vehicle, his family said in a statement. Paying tribute, the contestant's dad Andrew said: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Sam in a terrible accident. "Sam left us far too soon, and whilst words will never fully capture the light, joy and energy he brought into our lives, we hold on to the memories that made him so special. "Sam was adored by his family. As a son, brother and nephew, he was loyal, funny and fiercely protective." Speaking on Sam's time on the popular BBC show, Andrew added: "Race Across The World opened his eyes to the wonder of adventure and travel. "He was willing to go wherever the trail might lead and he touched everyone he met on the road. "He found great happiness working as a landscape gardener on the west coast of Scotland. "Sam brought warmth, laughter and a smattering of chaos wherever he went. "He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts. "We will miss him endlessly, but we'll also remember him with smiles, tall tales, and a depth of love that will never fade." More to follow...
