4-year-old Kansas boy killed when driver hits trailer, official says
A 4-year-old boy was killed Friday night when the trailer he was on was hit by a car in Garden City. The driver tried to flee on foot but was caught by residents, Garden City police spokesperson Erinn Reyes said Saturday morning. First responders were called at 9:45 p.m. on Friday to the 600 block of Bancroft Street. 'When they arrived, first responders found an unresponsive 4-year-old boy on a trailer and a Chrysler 200 in a nearby front lawn,' Reyes said in a news release. 'The child was pronounced dead at the scene.' The driver of the Chrysler, 32-year-old Jacob Eichhorn, 'ran from the scene, but residents were able to catch him and keep him there until first responders arrived,' she said. Eichhorn was driving southbound on Bancroft Street when he struck a trailer parked on the side of the street, causing the Chrysler to go airborne before coming to a rest in the yard, she said. The 4-year-old boy was on the trailer when it was struck, she said. 'Further investigation revealed Eichhorn showed signs of impairment,' she said.
