Australians call out common public transport act they are sick of
A common public transport act has been labelled 'frustrating' after commuters express they are fed up with it.
Sydney's newly opened Metro has markings where the doors are set to open, allowing people to know where they can board the automatic railway system.
People often stand on either side of the markings to allow people disembarking the train without interference. But, a picture snapped and shared to Reddit showed someone standing in the middle. This would in turn inhibit the flow of traffic.
'Dear Sydney, don't stand there,' the Reddit user captioned the image.
'Stand to the side of the lines and let people off before attempting to board. It seems obvious but clearly some people have never put any thought into it so here we are having a tiny rant.'
But, it turns out this isn't something that is only impacting the Metro — but also trains, buses and the light rail. People have expressed their annoyance at this common public transport faux pas.
'You metro people have seen nothing yet,' one person said.
'Even if you mark the spot with red paint, and put the words 'don't stand here' you still get zombie commuters who'll ignore that and stand there. Then they have the GALL to look surprised when people need to get off and have to push through them while they try to simultaneously board.
'It's a daily sight at any of the TRAIN stations around Sydney. At peak, at a CBD station, the crowd of idiots is 6 people deep.'
Another social media user commented: 'I find that direct eye contact and a loud
'MOVE' tends to work nine times out of 10. People that do this s**t don't deserve to be spoken to politely, it's so annoying.'
'I like to ask 'First time with doors, huh?' before walking through these jackasses,' another added.
One person added: 'And when people are standing to the side, don't take that as your opportunity to barge through there the moment the doors open.'
'Just do the same. Get off and then don't move,' one said.
One person commented: 'YES!!!! This frustrates me to no end.'
'If enough people walk out without stopping they'll f***ing learn,' one commented.
Another said: 'I've accepted people are just dumb and inconsiderate. If the metro/train/bus is packed, take off your f***ing bag to make space.'
But, others did defend the commuters' actions.
'To be honest, those lines look like they're for lining up. They're not clearly indicated what they mean. Also this is the first time I've ever seen them,' one added.
Another added: 'Why is it obvious? There are no signs of which way to stand. In Japan they have it signposted all over the floor for example. Maybe this guy thinks it's the place you're meant to queue?'
