After Wearing Sloppy Travel Pants for Years, I'm Switching to These 10 Comfy, Flattering Pairs—From $34

As a late-30s millennial who prioritizes comfort over fashion, I refuse to wear uncomfortable clothing when I travel. Never have I set foot on a plane while wearing jeans with an actual button fly, and 99 percent of my favorite travel pants feature wide elastic waistbands. This used to mean slumping around in a baggy sweatsuit as I waited for Boarding Group 8. Now, thanks to the emerging athleisure trend, lots of pants have elastic waistbands—and they're way more stylish than your average sweatpants; my options for comfortable-yet-cute bottoms expanded greatly. After much searching, travel, and wear-testing, I have accumulated an impressive collection of 'grown-up' alternatives to classic sweatpants. My go-to travel pants range from sleek, fitted joggers to wide-legged linen pants, and they're all perfect for a long flight or road trip. Keep scrolling to shop the elevated but still extremely comfy styles that you can always find in my suitcase. I've been on the hunt for wide-legged linen pants for the past year, and Athleta's Retreat Linen High-rise pair was exactly what I was looking for. They sit comfortably on my waist without bunching, and feel tailored and stylish despite the wide design. The two zippered pockets were perfect for stashing my hotel room key on a recent trip, and they pair nicely with chunky-heeled boots thanks to the floor-skimming length. I love the neutral colorways, and they give off an elevated look that puts them a few rungs above sweatpants without losing the comfort of my classic faves. They're light and breezy and don't cling in humidity, and the colors pair well with a range of tops and shoes. They also dried quickly after getting caught in a rainstorm, and any wrinkles shook out quickly after being packed in a suitcase. $108 at I've been hearing nothing but rave reviews about Vuori's incredibly soft DreamKnit material, and it has not disappointed. I'm loving wide-legged looks lately, and these low-slung Halo Essential pants are relaxed without looking sloppy, and pair well with a slightly taller pair of shoes thanks to their 31-inch inseam. If I wear them with flat shoes, I just double the waistband over so they don't drag on the floor. I wore these with a matching Halo Performance Hoodie for comfort during my recent cross-country travel day, but if that breaks your big-pants-little-top rule, you can switch it up with a more form-fitting long-sleeve top. I quite literally said, ' Oh my God, yes, ' when I opened this matching set from Rhone. The material feels luxuriously soft without snagging, and it has a slightly heavier, more premium feel than similar sets. The pants are long, though, so I'd recommend wearing them with a slightly taller shoe, or rolling and cuffing them to avoid dragging on the ground. These manage to be extremely soft without pilling, and have sleek, tailored lines on the trouser legs to maintain a nice shape. The waistband is a wide elastic built into the material, and the side taping is embossed with a subtle logo. These feel high-end and have the best combination of comfort and elevated style out of all the pants I tested. When it comes to joggers, I'm all about Centerline Athletics' retro-cool Courtside joggers, which are perfect for taking a short hike, jog, or hitting the pickleball court. The material is a little stiffer than some others on this list, which is why I'd also like to point in the direction of the Baleaf Woven Joggers, $39. They have the same breathable, sweat-wicking benefits but with more stretch (check out that wide, high-rise waistband). Skida's slightly cropped pants are the closest things to sweatpants I've found with their breezy, lightweight feel. The ruched waistband, flowy silhouette, and gorgeous patterns give them an elevated look when compared to traditional yoga pants, and the pants are great for warm-weather travel where I want to keep my legs covered without sacrificing breathability. Over at Amazon, the Angerella High-waisted Palazzo Pants are winning over shoppers for the same reasons. The high, wide waistband is comfortable for walking around as well as sleeping on a plane. Finally, they pack down to save luggage space—great news for travelers like me who make a valiant attempt to never bring more than a carry-on. $108 at REI $108 at With a similar look to my favorite wide-legged Vuori Halo pants, these Beyond Yoga Stretch Woven Pants fit slim through the hips but have a wide leg that creates a flattering silhouette without losing essential sweatpants comfort. The two oversized hand pockets on the front fit my phone and a small wallet, though they lack a zipper, so I usually carry a small bag if my top doesn't have a zipper pocket. The 31-inch inseam is the same length as the Vuoris, which means they brush the ground in low-profile shoes unless I double the waistband over. Overall, these are airy, breathable pants that pair well with a fitted tank top or crop top, look good in a variety of settings, and have a barely-there comfort for full travel days, or overnight flights, or train rides. The only pants with a button fly to make the cut, the cropped Kuhl Seaboard Pants snuck onto my list thanks to the loose fit and high percentage of elastic. These pants took me by surprise with their stretchy, lightweight feel, and I can sit cross-legged without any tightness or bunching. They have a casual-chic vibe that pairs as well with Blundstones as they do with dressier sandals, and I wear these with both short and long-sleeve tops depending on the weather. Out of all the comfortable travel pants on this list, these are both the least like sweatpants and the most appropriate for a variety of situations. While I wouldn't love sleeping in them, I can wear them on a full-day train ride and then out to a concert in the evening without feeling suffocated or out of place in either situation. I always pack a jumpsuit for its versatility, breathability, and range of styling that can be dressed down for a casual walk and dressed up for a nice evening dinner. Currently, I can't stop reaching for Imbodhi's Mari Jumpsuit, which has light compression through the top that is both flattering and supportive. It's truly a one-and-done travel outfit, and I never complain about putting on one item of clothing and being fully dressed. Similarly, Spanx AirEssentials Sleeveless Jumpsuit (yup, it's from the Oprah-loved AirEssentials collection) comes with a waist-snatching drawstring to create the perfect fit, plus plenty of thoughtful details to accentuate and flatter your shape without sacrificing comfort. The lightweight, fine-knit fabric promotes airflow and ensures you have enough flexibility to smoothly navigate busy airports, town squares, concert venues, and more. Love a great deal? The Best Travel Pants For Men That Feel Comfortable And Look Polished

Whether you're embarking on a weeks-long vacation or simply getting away for the weekend, a pair of reliable travel pants is an essential wardrobe staple. I spent hours researching brands, analyzing fabrics and comparing fits to land on the best travel pants for men. My top pick overall is the Lululemon ABC Relaxed-Fit Pant, a best-selling style that's smooth, stretchy and easy to dress up or down. If you prefer to travel in sweatpants, I recommend the Duer No Sweat Jogger, an ultra-comfortable option that's elevated by the addition of back pockets. We rounded up the best travel pants for men that are comfortable, versatile and stylish. This list includes a range of styles to accommodate a variety of scenarios: There's laid-back joggers for long flights as well as sophisticated dress pants for work trips. To gain more insight into what makes a great pair of travel pants, I tapped Forbes Vetted gear editor Cam Vigliotta. In addition to sharing two personal recommendations, Vigliotta broke down what you should be looking for in terms of material, style and fit. Below, find the seven best men's travel pants to pack for your next trip. Lululemon Waist sizes: 28 to 40 | Inseam lengths: 30 to 32 | Colors: 4 total, including Sheer Oak and Obsidian | Materials: 53% elastomultiester, 47% recycled polyester The Lululemon ABC Relaxed-Fit Pant is one of the athlesiure giant's most popular styles, and it's a favorite of Vigliotta's, as well. 'I like Lululemon's ABC Pant for the same reasons everyone likes it—it's simple, a little stretchy and easy to dress up or down,' he says. Made of a wrinkle-resistant blend of elastomultiester and recycled polyester, these smooth, semi-sophisticated pants offer just enough room throughout the seat and thigh. There's an ergonomic gusset in the crotch of the pants that ensures your comfort, even when you're sitting for several hours at a time. Amazon Waist sizes: 30 to 40 | Inseam lengths: 30 to 34 | Colors: 3 total, including Charcoal and Khaki | Materials: 94% nylon, 6% spandex While Unionbay isn't as established of a brand as the others featured on this list, its thousands of positive customer reviews speak for themselves. The Rainier is a stretchy, quick-drying pair that's made of UPF 50 nylon blended with spandex. In addition to the pairs of pockets located at the waist and on the seat, you'll also find a single side pocket lower on the right leg, perfect for stashing smaller travel essentials. Customers note that these pants are comfortable enough for long-haul flights, and their resistance to moisture makes them a smart choice for inclement weather. Duer Waist sizes: 28 to 40 | Inseam lengths: 30 to 32 | Colors: 2 total, including Black and Light Fern | Materials: 62% cotton, 34% Tencel lyocell, 4% Lycra Joggers are a no-brainer for travel, if your main priority is comfort. The Duer No Sweat Jogger is made from a breathable, soft blend of cotton and Tencel; these are pants you'll find yourself reaching for at home, too—not just before a flight. They have a slim, streamlined fit throughout the leg and are secured at the waist with a drawstring closure, which keeps them from looking too relaxed. In addition to side and back pockets, a zippered leg pocket provides another spot to stash a wallet or keys. 'My husband wears joggers all the time, since they're comfortable enough for lounging but put-together enough for leaving the house,' says senior updates editor Karen Tietjen. 'He's also incredibly picky, and these are hands-down his favorite pair—they're comfy, lightweight and have the slim fit he prefers.' Quince Waist sizes: 30 to 36 | Inseam lengths: 30 to 34 | Colors: 2 total, including Black and Navy | Materials: 65% recycled polyester, 30% rayon, 5% spandex Whether you're traveling for work or a wedding, there are some instances in which you'll need to pack dress pants. Quince's Performance Stretch Dress Pants—which are the best pick for travel on our list of the best men's dress pants—are even comfy enough to wear on the plane. They're made of a stretchy blend of recycled polyester and rayon, which resists wrinkles and retains its shape in transit. At just under $50, they're also a wallet-friendly addition to your business travel wardrobe. Prana Waist sizes: 28 to 42 | Inseam lengths: 28 to 36 | Colors: 9 total, including Mud and Shadow | Materials: 97% nylon, 3% elastane For outdoor trips—think backpacking, camping and the like—Vigliotta recommends the Prana Stretch Zion Pant. 'This is technically a hiking pant, but it's really comfortable and versatile because it's loose through the leg, a little stretchy, UPF 50+ rated and outfitted with handy pockets for travel essentials,' he says. They're equipped with back pockets, side pockets and a roomy zipper cargo pocket on the left thigh, providing plenty of storage space. You can also shorten the length of the pants, thanks to a clever snap roll up feature at the hem. Huckberry Waist sizes: 28 to 38 | Inseam lengths: 32 to 34 | Colors: 4 total, including Black and Olive | Materials: 47% merino wool, 33% nylon, 14% polyester, 6% elastane Huckberry's 72-Hour collection (which includes these pants) was designed with endurance in mind—each piece can be worn for three days straight, without any signs of wear or odor. (This is super helpful if you don't have the chance to do laundry on your trip.) This style features an innovative blend of merino wool, nylon, polyester and elastane. The result is a moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating pant that can be worn all year long. In addition to side pockets, these pants have zippered back pockets that keep small items secure. Bonobos Waist sizes: 28 to 46 | Inseam lengths: 28 to 36 | Colors: 12 total, including Altoona Blue and Salem Jet Black | Materials: 94% cotton, 4% PBT, 2% elastane While jeans typically aren't the most comfortable pants to wear on hours-long plane or car rides, Bonobos' Travel Jeans will make you rethink that notion. Blending cotton with PBT (a type of polyester) and elastane, these jeans are lightweight, stretchy and flexible. Paired with a T-shirt, they're perfect for a day of sightseeing, and they can be dressed up with a button-down for dinner at the hotel. They're available in a dozen hues, so you're bound to find a shade that suits your style. At Forbes Vetted, we're dedicated to making informed recommendations on a variety of fashion topics, with dozens of stories dedicated to menswear, specifically. To assemble this list of the best men's travel pants, I tapped into my extensive industry knowledge, assembling a shortlist of trusted menswear brands with excellent reputations. When shopping for men's travel pants, first consider the nature of your trip. 'Your top priorities for travel pants should be based on what you're doing and where you're going,' says Vigliotta. Here's what to keep in mind: Comfort is paramount when it comes to travel clothes, as is wrinkle resistance. 'If you're looking for travel clothing that's breathable, durable and downright versatile, I would prioritize nylon and polyester fabric blends,' says Vigliotta. 'As synthetic fabrics, they do a great job of repelling moisture, protecting your skin from the sun and adapting to the environment.' He also recommends merino wool blends, since they naturally control temperature—and they also resist odor-causing bacteria. 'Merino just stays more fresh and comfortable between washes than synthetics, in my experience.' Most travel pants have either a zipper fly closure or a drawstring closure. 'I prefer a drawstring on flights because it's more comfortable when I'm seated for hours,' says Vigliotta. However, drawstring pants skew more casual than pants with a zipper fly—if you want to look a bit more put-together or plan on dressing up during your trip, go with the latter. In terms of fit, we generally recommend pants with a straight to relaxed leg—these offer enough room so you don't end up feeling constricted during long stretches of travel. 'If you're packing for a backpacking-style trip with lots of walking, sightseeing, and so on, look for breathable synthetic pants that fit a bit looser through the leg,' advises Vigliotta. Ideally, travel pants should be equipped with multiple pockets, and bonus points if they're zippered for extra security. And while travel pants should be practical first and foremost, it may also be important to pay attention to style, if you're traveling to a fashion-conscious destination. 'If you're heading somewhere nice, like Monaco or the Italian Riviera, you'll probably want to wear something with a bit more style, so look for fitted, wrinkle-resistant options that won't crease in your suitcase,' says Vigliotta.

I Fly Back and Forth From LA to NY Multiple Times a Year—and These Are the Only Pants I Wear for the Trip

When you fly back and forth from Los Angeles to New York five-plus times a year, you start to create little rituals to ensure that each flight is smoother than the last. For me, that means flying out of and into the same airports, using the same airline, sitting in the same seat number on both flights, and wearing my favorite travel pants: the G4Free Wide-leg Pants. What began as an impulse purchase two years ago has now become a non-negotiable for any flight I take. I was drawn to the pants' wide-leg silhouette, which I always gravitate towards on travel days because of their non-restrictive nature (a blessing when you'll be sitting for nearly six hours and wearing compression socks). I know what you're thinking: Surely, flowy pants aren't hard to come by. In fact, I have several wide-leg sweatpants and yoga pants that could keep me just as comfy. However, they don't have the same look as the G4Free Wide-leg Pants—or the compression for that matter. The pants' high-rise waistband smooths over my stomach like my favorite workout leggings (while giving my booty a little lift, I might add). And, just like my go-to leggings, they give me the confidence and energy to power through a hectic day. When I slip them on, I instantly feel more put together, whether I'm getting ready for a red-eye flight out of LAX or mustering up the energy to make my 6 a.m. flight from JFK. Even when paired with an oversized sweatshirt or loose cardigan, the G4Free Wide-leg Pants never look frumpy, which is something I can't say about my other sweatpants and yoga pants. The sleek fabric and trouser-like seams make them look elevated, while the polyester-spandex blend provides a pajama-like softness and stretch. The lightweight, quick-drying design doesn't hurt either, especially when traveling from one warm climate to another. This is why the G4Free pants are way more than airplane pants. Long after I land, I can still get plenty of use out of them, no matter what my itinerary has in store for me. Heading to the office? It's hard to tell the difference between these pants and work pants when they're paired with a nice top and shoes. Grabbing drinks with friends? The pants can be zhuzhed up to match the dress code. Sightseeing around New York City? Hitting the trails in L.A.? Going to Erewhon for a smoothie? The list goes on. My next cross-country flight is only weeks away, and guess what I'll be wearing? Yup: the G4Free Wide-leg Pants. I might even grab another pair so I'll have double the wardrobe options when I'm back in New York. Keep scrolling to see the other travel-friendly wide-leg pants that you can score at Amazon for spring and summer trips. Love a great deal?
