New Balance Loafers Are This Season's 'It' Shoe—Shop 13 Similar Comfy Pairs We're Eyeing, Up to 50% Off
Many shoe trends are often controversial. Our closets are full of comfy, polarizing styles, from Crocs clogs to ballet sneakers. Summer's biggest shoe trend is chock-full of love-it-or-hate-it charm, and it's comfortable enough to serve as your go-to travel shoe. Introducing: the sneaker loafer. The 'snoafer' craze started with New Balance's 1906L Sneaker-loafer, a play off the brand's beloved 1906R sneaker. We've been spotting the sporty trend all over NYC, and now, Vionic, Converse, Tory Burch, and more top brands have designed similar styles. Keep reading to shop the best travel-friendly styles we've found, starting at just $33. Here's the sneaker loafer that started it all. This shoe has the sporty look of a traditional New Balance shoe, plus the silhouette of a penny loafer. It's beloved by fashion enthusiasts for its comfy feel and everyday style that can take you from the airport to the streets of Paris in style. While the shoes are no longer available directly from New Balance, they're still fully stocked at StockX. Prices range from $118 to $267. This low-profile iteration of the sneaker-loafer is sleeker than the New Balance style, aligned with the minimal sneaker trend that's also been everywhere this year. These Chucks have a suede upper, wide fit, and cushy insole to keep you comfy on long travel days. We love the bold black star imprint on the beige colorway, but if you prefer a monochromatic look, choose the black or white options. $169 at Nordstrom $169 at Vivaia makes some of the comfiest flats around, and now the brand is treating shoppers to sneaker loafers that reviewers call 'unbelievably comfortable.' They have removable insoles, generous cushioning, and plenty of arch support. Plus, the water-repellant upper makes them durable enough to handle whatever your vacation has in store. $130 at Nordstrom $130 at Zappos These are some of the most stylish sneaker loafers we've spotted, and they come from a podiatrist-approved shoe brand that even Oprah loves. They're designed to provide optimal arch support, and one reviewer even calls them 'Vionic's best walking shoes yet.' We'd pair these snoafers with wide-leg trousers or pleated shorts. These Toms espadrille sneakers are the epitome of summer. They blend various styles with the upper of a loafer, woven detail of an espadrille, and rubber sole of a sneaker. Thanks to an orthopedic footbed, one reviewer says they're 'easy to walk in and extremely comfortable.' Plus, they're so easy to style for summer; they'll look beautiful with linen pants, summer dresses, and more. If you're looking for a loafer that makes a statement, consider the Puma Loafyrs. They feature a super chunky sole with plenty of height, so fans of platform shoes love them. The thick rubber outsole is inspired by trail shoes, meant to provide plenty of traction and stability. Style these snoafers with athletic, casual, or even professional outfits—they're versatile enough for any occasion. With the code PUMAFNF, you can get 40 percent off of these right now, too. $130 at Amazon $140 $135 at Zappos The Vionic Uptown Loafers look like pure business on the upper, but the sole offers all the comfort and flexibility of a sneaker. With a sneaker-like rubber outsole, they're comfy enough for all-day wear, while bridging the gap between business and casual. We love that these Dr. Scholl's sneakers can be worn to the office or just to run errands. They feature a sleek faux leather exterior and cushiony insole. Reviewers rave about them, touting that they're ideal for summer, easy to slip on and off, and comfy enough to stand in all day. The Dream Pairs Loafers look so much like the Vionic Uptown Loafers, but they're a fraction of the price thanks to a faux leather composition, as opposed to Vionic's genuine leather shoes. Only $33 at Amazon today, the lugged sole offers plenty of stability, though this shoe still has a lightweight feel, according to reviewers. Plus, one reviewer says they're 'great for travel' since they 'slip on and off easily at airport security.' If you're looking for an investment pair, we love this option from Tory Burch. They feature a flexible rubber sole and elevated suede upper. Reviewers rave about the comfort they offer, with one shopper adding that these shoes pack well for travel. These snoafers are ideal for summer. According to the brand, they offer impressive ventilation and moisture-wicking abilities, so they'll keep you comfortable on summer trips. They have a knit upper and rubber outsole that's complemented by leather detailing reminiscent of a traditional penny loafer design. Snag them in navy or black—they're both on sale today. Shopping for something bold? These metallic penny loafers fit the bill. With a white rubber outsole, they put a sporty spin on the traditional loafer. According to the brand, they have plenty of cushioning for all-day comfort. Snag them in this statement-making silver shade, or opt for navy, beige, or black options. These loafers can easily be styled for business or casual wear, so they're versatile enough to complement any travel capsule wardrobe. They have a sporty, white rubber sole, and one reviewer said they're 'comfortable straight out of the box.' Thanks to the perforated upper, these shoes are super breathable, too, making them ideal for summer trips. Clarks' shoes are beloved for their comfort, which is why many people who struggle with foot health reach for the brand. These look similar to traditional penny loafers, but have a rubber outsole designed to offer enhanced support for all-day wear. According to the brand, they're easy to slip on and off and have a breathable lining. In other words, these are ideal for long days of summer travel. Love a great deal? White Sneakers Were My Travel Uniform Until I Found This Ultra-comfy, Celeb-loved Pair That Matches Everything
Let's be honest: finding the perfect travel shoe is never easy. What works well for one trip might be completely off for another. We all want shoes that are cute but not flashy, comfortable but not clunky, versatile but still show off our unique style—and bonus if they don't scream 'tourist.' After years of lugging multiple pairs of shoes around the world 'just in case', I've finally found one of my favorite travel shoes: the Puma Speedcat OG sneakers. Don't get me wrong, I do love a good pair of white sneakers. But after ruining one too many on muddy streets (I tend to hike or run wherever I go), I started looking for something more practical. I wanted shoes that were colorful, versatile, and could keep up on subway commutes in London or trails in Colorado. The Puma Speedcats aren't just another pair of sneakers; they make my feet feel good even after thousands of steps, and still look cool when you are stepping out for dinner in a new city after exploring all day. Plus, they come in a variety of colors and work with everything in my travel bag. $100 at Nordstrom $100 at I picked up the Puma Speedcat OGs right before a work trip that took me from Santiago to Punta Arenas and then onto an Antarctica cruise with Aurora Expeditions. Traveling light was key as I was taking a charter flight with strict luggage weight restrictions (33 pounds) from Punta Arenas to King George Island before my cruise, but I also had a couple of days in Santiago with plenty of exploring crammed in. Normally, I'd bring at least two, maybe three pairs of shoes: something to walk in, something to dress up, and a backup. But these Speedcats made me gamble, and that really paid off in terms of traveling light. I wore them straight out of the box onto my flight and all over Santiago. I paired them with everything from my comfortable airport joggers, jeans, and a T-shirt in Santiago, and a dress for the captain's dinner aboard Aurora Expeditions' Silvia Earle. What I really like about these shoes is their low-profile sole, which is flat but surprisingly supportive, keeping me comfortable for hours on my feet without the dreaded arch ache. That's thanks in part to the OrthoLite insert built into the shoe, which adds just the right amount of cushioning and support. Despite their street style appeal, the Puma Speedcat OG's rubber outsole has a similar grip to the traditional performance shoes I'd normally wear for running or hiking, a nod to Puma's motorsport heritage; the original Speedcat, which debuted in 1998 as a Formula 1 racing shoe, was designed with an ultra-slim profile to help drivers shave off precious milliseconds on the track. $100 at Nordstrom $100 at There's also a padded tongue and collar that provide extra cushion without adding too much weight. I've worn these shoes with jeans, joggers, and even a skirt, and they work flawlessly. Another thing I appreciated about the Puma Speedcat is its sleek, aerodynamic profile. They come with either a suede or leather upper with Puma's iconic Formstride leather. Maybe that's why these shoes have been embraced by celebrities like Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and Jennifer Lawrence, who were spotted wearing them everywhere. If you're still not brave enough to travel with just one pair, let me tell you a secret: these shoes collapse down surprisingly well in a suitcase for easy carry (the flexible shape helps). However, they're so comfy that I never end up packing them; instead, I just wear them through security, on the flight, and straight out into whatever city I land in. The only thing to keep in mind is that, because of their sleek design, the shoe may seem narrow for those with wide feet. In that case, just size up for a little bit more room. $100 at Nordstrom $100 at So, if you're a frequent traveler, a light packer, or just tired of swapping shoes midday like me, I can't recommend the Puma Speedcat OG Sneakers. But if you don't want to travel with just one pair and want to explore other stylish options from Puma, here are five other travel-ready picks worth checking out. Love a great deal? Oprah's Favorite Podiatrist-approved Shoe Brand Is Having a Huge Memorial Day Sale—Shop Picks Up to 62% Off
A travel shoe should be comfortable to support your feet through different activities, but versatile for wear with multiple outfits in your suitcase, too. As a frequent traveler, I swear by Vionic for shoes that combine style and function. Trust me, I've walked thousands of steps around the world in the brand, from wandering around Paris in my Uptown Loafers to exploring Chicago in my Colbie Sneakers. Vionic is also podiatrist-trusted and expert-backed—many of the brand's shoes have the American Podiatric Medical Association's Seal of Acceptance. Whether you're looking for ballet flats or walking sneakers, every style features the brand's signature Vio-Motion technology, which has built-in stability, arch support, cushioning, and flexibility for all-day comfort. It's no wonder Oprah is also a fan and previously included Vionic on her Favorite Things list for three consecutive years. Now is the perfect time to try the brand for yourself because many Vionic styles are marked down during Amazon's Memorial Day sale, with savings of up to 62 percent off. Keep scrolling for the 15 best deals for your travel shoe collection, starting at $50. I've traveled all over the world with my Vionic Uptown Loafers, from Paris to Cape May, N.J. Not only have my feet never hurt after walking over 10,000 steps in them, but they've actually gotten more comfortable over time after molding to my feet. Whether at home or on the road, they're the shoes I reach for when I want to dress up an outfit but know I'll be on my feet all day. In addition to being stylish and comfortable, they're also packable—the soft upper basically condenses flat, so they take up minimal space in your suitcase. My go-to cream loafers are easy to pair with different outfits, but they also come in a whopping 32 styles, a mix of leather and suede colorways. I might have to snag the dark denim for my next trip. Whether you're looking to get in on the Fisherman Core trend or are searching for a comfortable shoe for your next cruise, there's no denying that boat shoes are having a moment right now. This style combines an espadrille platform with a slide-on upper for a fun summer vibe. The soft leather is breathable while the contoured footbed is supportive. They're practically begging to come on your next coastal trip. There's something about a square-toe ballet flat that's extremely flattering on the foot—take it from a 5-foot-tall girl, it's a design that will elongate your legs. While many shoes in this style feel thin and flimsy, this pair offers Vionic's signature footbed with built-in arch support and shock absorption. And at 39 percent off, I won't blame you for adding all five colorways to your cart. If you don't already pack a classic white sneaker for every trip, this match-everything pair will convince you to. The sleek leather style is durable and stylish, perfect for week-long trips to new cities. One reviewer traveled to Peru for seven days with only these shoes before properly breaking them in, wearing them 'from city to boat to sand dunes to waterfalls to hilly city to Machu Picchu and down.' Another shopper raved, 'Very comfortable and helped with my plantar fasciitis while walking around Disney.' And if a white sneaker still isn't for you, don't worry—the Winny sneaker also comes in eight other colorways. A platform sandal will give you a lift while keeping your feet feeling good. This style features two adjustable straps to ensure your foot stays in place and a rubber heel for better traction on any surface. There are four colorways available, ranging from a neutral raffia to a bold blue. A slip-on sneaker you can easily pull on and off makes going through the airport a breeze. This variation has a perforated upper design that's both eye-catching and breathable. I'd bring it on a European summer getaway to pair with everything from gauze maxi skirts to linen mini dresses. And at 54 percent off, you might as well grab multiple hues. One of my most complimented travel shoes is a pair of silver ballet flats that I reserve for fancy dinners (though, this style comes in a whopping 21 colorways, so there's bound to be at least one option that catches your eye). They have a flattering square toe and a whimsical bow to dress up your vacation outfits. Plus, they come in normal, narrow, and wide variations to accommodate any foot. 'With narrow feet that need arch support, these are fabulous,' said one reviewer. If you prefer a ballet flat with more support, this Mary Jane style could be exactly what you're looking for. It offers the same cushioned bottom and lug sole as my favorite loafers, but with a more minimal upper and adjustable Velcro strap to keep your foot in place. 'I love that they look good with pants, skirts, or shorts, and provide walking support and comfort while looking fashionable,' said one shopper. A classic pair of loafers will become a staple in your travel wardrobe for many trips to come. This low-profile style would match everything from jeans to trousers. Throw them into your suitcase for days when you'll be on your feet and need a comfortable shoe but want something dressier than sneakers. Perhaps for a day of shopping and afternoon tea in London? These slide sandals have a curved footbed that provides extra arch support and molds to your foot. The buckle is adjustable to ensure a snug fit, which one reviewer said even worked for her two differently sized feet. Plus, it makes a style statement, especially if you opt for the vibrant red or yellow colorways. After returning from trips to the Galapagos and Colorado, I have a newfound appreciation for sturdy hiking shoes. The bold colors originally caught my eye, but these sneakers also feature rebound and alignment technology to keep your feet pain-free on any terrain. They're also water resistant, so they're sure to stand up to different climates. These light pink suede slip-ons add a feminine touch to any travel outfit. They might feel out of your comfort zone, which makes this Memorial Day sale the perfect time to snag them. Plus, the built-in arch support will keep your feet comfortable whether you're sightseeing or wandering around a museum. Everyone should have a sandal that's versatile enough to transition from pool days to sunset dinners. These slides have a cushioned footbed and platform heel to keep you supported while you walk around your resort, but they can also be dressed up for nighttime outings. They come in eight different colorways, including neutrals and pastels. Worried about your foot moving around in a slide sandal? These supportive flats might be more your speed, with two adjustable closures and a back strap to keep your foot in place. One traveler who brought them on a walking-heavy trip to Los Angeles found herself reaching for them more than any other shoes she brought with her. 'They fit perfectly, and the Velcro allows [for] any adjusting in case of swelling,' she said, adding that the wide width is another bonus. These beachy sneakers are adorned in seafoam green boucle that will add a fun pop of color to your summer outfits. Part of Vionic's sustainable Beach line, the materials are eco-conscious and breathable. Plus, they're machine washable, so you can easily clean them after your adventures. Love a great deal? Allbirds' Celeb-loved Comfy Shoes Are Up to 50% Off—Including My All-time Favorite Slip-on Sneakers, From $59
As a professional travel writer, I'm constantly on my feet—rushing through airports, navigating cobblestone streets, catching trains; you name it. The travel shoes I trust have to be able to handle it all (huge bonus if they're actually stylish), which is why I was elated when I found the Lounger Lift Slip-ons from the comfortable shoe brand Allbirds. You've definitely heard the name. The brand has amassed a huge celeb following, even from stars like Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Aniston. Personally, I've sworn by them since I bought my first Allbirds Women's Wool Runner Mizzles two years ago, when their signature water-resistant coating got me through a drizzly trip to Iceland. And then Ireland. And then at home in Boston. Made with Allbirds' signature foamy sole, the Lounger Lift Slip-ons, currently 20 percent off, are super lightweight shoes with layers of cushion, and their cotton canvas uppers make them casual and comfy with support for days—everything a travel shoe should be. I've put them to the test in major walking cities like Boston and New York, and I've found they keep my feet pain-free and supported. Plus, they're easy to slip on and off for hassle-free stops through TSA security. So, you can imagine my excitement when I heard the same brand behind my favorite new comfy platform slip-on sneakers is having a huge Memorial Day sale, with discounts up to 50 percent off, even marking down best-sellers like the Tree Runners. Read on for the 15 Allbirds shoe styles this travel writer just added to her wish list for upcoming trips. The same Lounger Lift platform slip-on style I love comes in a stylish white canvas on sale for $84 (and even a little more of a statement-making corduroy for $55). The neutral color keeps it versatile enough to pair with anything in a traveler's closet. Did I mention that the foamy platform is super cushiony? Plus, they're a nice non-touristy alternative to sneakers. Case in point: I recently paired this style with black wide-leg jeans and an oversized jean jacket in Boston, and I felt effortlessly cool. Looking for new walking shoes? The brand's best-selling Tree Runners are marked as low as $59, so I'd run, not walk, to snag a pair (or two —there are so many good colors on sale). The classic lace-up sneaker has a breathable, thermoregulating mesh knit upper that keeps things breezy, plus that foamy, cushioned midsole that Allbirds shoes are known for, which keeps you comfy all day. Maybe your trip has more off-the-beaten-path adventures in store than simply walking paved city streets. Maybe you're an avid hiker, camper, or trail runner. In that case, I'd add these highly rated trail running sneakers to your cart asap. They're built to feel light like a sneaker but also built to perform; the ripstop fabric, water-resistant material, and treads on the soles make them ultra durable and made to withstand rugged terrain. One trail runner had lots of praise for this style's traction, saying they 'never slipped despite going across slippery mossy rocks.' A canvas-y court shoe like the Piper Go Luxe is a must for any travel wardrobe. Why? They easily pair with dresses, pants, and sweats and make you look stylish and feel comfortable without even trying. Made with suede-like accents on the heels, this style is slightly less athletic, so you won't be earmarked as a tourist in big walking cities right off the bat. Hey, it's not often you find a pair of shoes that's under $100 and stylish enough to rock with more than just sweats. If there's one thing Allbirds excels at, it's being lightweight, and these effortless sneakers are one of their airiest, lightest styles—not to mention a whopping 50 percent off right now. Choose this style if you want what the brand calls a 'barely-there feel.' Sometimes when you're on the go, you don't have time for laces. Or rather, it's easier to wear styles that don't have them. Like my trusty Lounger Lifts, these slip-ons with a mesh knit upper slide right on with their easy pull tab, so they're easy to get on and off when it counts (like, when you're late for your flight). Here's one for the active traveler. Whether you're running around a new city before everyone wakes up or you're just finishing off the perfect athleisure look for a walking tour, these comfy athletic sneakers are perfection. The sleek sole hugs the foot and is ridiculously lightweight, making it ideal for runs and walking without weighing down your carry-on bag. Every traveler needs a pair of sleek ballet flats they can throw in their carry-on or purse (think: city commutes, work to dinner options, etc.), and this pair is as sleek and breathable as they come. The Breezers were designed to have a barefoot feel for the ultimate comfort, and they're machine washable, too. Let's face it, your flip-flops could probably use an update. And with summer pool days, spa treatments, and beach trips around the corner, these unisex sandals are going to be your travel wardrobe MVP this season (and probably beyond). They stay put with a classic toe-post and grippy non-slip sole. Plus, their foamy EVA material makes them not only comfy but water-resistant, too, for whatever fun you may splash into on your travels this year. The miracle water-repellent sneakers I trusted to keep my feet dry on rainy day walking tours in Ireland and soggy hikes in Iceland are also on sale right now, so if I were you, I'd snag them while they're still a rare $25 off. With a rubber outsole, merino wool upper that repels water, and foam midsole, they're comfy and the next best thing to rain boots for keeping feet dry, but way more packable. (Note: they're not water proof, so don't go jumping directly into any puddles expecting to stay dry, but they withstand a drizzle on the go). Is there anything more versatile than a white sneaker? I think not. These cushiony shoes have a roomy toe box, great cushioning, and support for days. One reviewer who wore them on a trip to Singapore even called them the 'perfect walking shoes.' Like many Allbirds shoes, this style is also machine-washable, so no need to worry about getting the white material dirty on your trips. It's easy to see why these men's sneakers are best-sellers: with their foamy midsole and mesh knit upper, they're lighter and more breathable than your average running shoe, not to mention versatile and machine washable. Grab a pair while they're marked as low as $78. The same sleek shoe as the Tree Runner, but with a few design improvements, makes this style worth the price bump while still coming in below $100, thanks to the sale. Its toe box is roomier for those with wider feet (a shopper with "super wide feet" said they "love the feel of the shoes"), and there's a bit more structure and cushioning in the sole. When I heard that the same water-repellent shoes I loved came in a men's high-top version, I immediately bought them for my husband. Spoiler alert: he loves them, especially for rainy days at home in Boston, but he packs them for all his trips, too. He says he loves that the high tops provide a little extra ankle support and protection from puddles, and in Ireland, his feet didn't get wet once. It's even become his go-to dog walking sneaker, rain or shine. This everyday walking sneaker with laces and a merino wool upper is a casual, cool look for travelers who don't want to wear athletic sneakers. It's stylish, but it's still comfy. Take it from the reviewers who say, 'These look great with a lot of outfits,' and gave them a five-star rating. That's music to a fellow traveler's ears—and a whole lot of relief to their feet, too.
