Man, 19, arrested over crash that killed woman and unborn child
Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in relation to a two-vehicle crash near Newcastle, where a woman and an unborn baby died.
Police said that on Sunday about 2.40am a patrolling officer saw a sedan, allegedly bearing unauthorised number plates, driving on Newcastle Roadin North Lambton.
An attempt was made to stop the vehicle, but police allege it continued driving dangerously, and a decision was made not to engage in a pursuit due to safety concerns.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.
Police said the woman was pregnant and had subsequently lost her unborn child.
The driver of the sedan and the front passenger allegedly fled the scene before police arrived.
Two rear seat passengers in the sedan, two girls aged 15 and 17, were taken to John Hunter Hospital where they both remain in serious condition.
Just after 3pm today, a 19-year-old man was arrested at a home in Mayfield.
He was taken to Waratah Police Station where he is assisting police.
