The presidential palace later announced that eight other agreements were signed in sectors covering tourism, health, investment and media. The Chinese premier is headed next to Malaysia for an ASEAN summit between members of the 10-country bloc, China and oil-producing countries. Prabowo had visited Beijing last year, during which Chinese President Xi Jinping told him that he hoped for a "new chapter" in bilateral relations. The two countries have in the past sparred verbally over disputed claims in the South China Sea -- which China claims almost entirely. Beijing has for years sought to expand its presence in the contested waters, brushing aside an international ruling that its claim has no legal basis. China urges Germany not to undermine cooperation in name of 'de-risking'
BEIJING, May 19 (Reuters) - China and Germany should prevent undermining their normal bilateral cooperation in the name of "de-risking", Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in a phone call on Monday. The two countries should jointly oppose unilateralism and protectionism, a Chinese foreign ministry statement quoted Wang as saying in the call. European nations have moved to reduce their dependence on trade with China, which they have labelled as "de-risking". Wang also called on the European Union to work together to resolve their disputes over the bloc's tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles as soon as possible.

Hong Kong facing ‘challenges' of rising unilateralism, Beijing official warns
The rise of unilateralism and protectionism poses 'a certain amount of challenges' to Hong Kong's development, Beijing's top envoy in the city has said, while urging youngsters to embrace patriotism. Cui Jianchun, the commissioner of the Chinese foreign ministry's office in Hong Kong, said on Saturday that some 'large countries' were obsessed with putting themselves first, imposing unilateral sanctions and threatening the use of tariffs. 'Hong Kong is currently in a new stage of going from stability to prosperity, where there are infinite opportunities. At the same time, the world is facing major changes not seen in a century,' he said at the Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest. 'Unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, which brings a certain amount of challenges to Hong Kong's development.' Cui urged the city's youth to 'take up responsibility for their home soil' amid the 'current situation'. 'They should also have a sense of home and country so they can find their way among the changes happening in the world,' he said. Hong Kong has been caught in the crossfire of US-China tensions, with the city feeling the effects of many of the measures imposed by US President Donald Trump in his tariff war with Beijing.
