The usual expression describes vanishing into thin air. In Washington on Saturday, the opposite seemed to occur. The city's distant views and vistas disappeared frequently into what appeared to be thick air.
Particularly in late afternoon and early evening, the air in and around the city was filled with tiny droplets of moisture, droplets that hovered aloft, suspended between ground and sky.
