Google tweaks the Pixel Weather app and makes it look better

Google really did a great job with the Pixel Weather app making it much more useful than the old Weather app that starred Froggy. Instead of a cute animation, the app is now loaded with data including an hourly forecast, a 10-day forecast, Wind speed, Precipitation, Visibility, the UV index, Humidity, Air Quality, and more. You can have the app show the weather for your current location or add more locations if you want to monitor the weather where your kids are living, or want to know the conditions where other family members or friends live. If you're planning a vacation or embarking on a business trip, you might want to know what to expect weather-wise when you arrive at your destination. The Pixel Weather app also features a Weather map which uses radar to show expected precipitation in your area over the next six-hours. With the map, you can pinch out to zoom in if you want to see a more local look at the radar in your area. If you'd rather see what the radar shows for several states near you, pinch in on the screen to zoom out. The severity of the precipitation expected in a particular area is represented by the different colors used by the radar that cover that area of the map. The old design of the Weather map on the Pixel Weather app in on the left with the new floating card look on the right. | Image credit-9to5Google Google has improved the design of the Weather map by changing the bottom sheet showing the time, the circular play/pause button for the radar, and the radar's timeline controls. With the change, the bottom is now a floating card which shows some of the map underneath the card at the left, right, and bottom of the floating card. This replaces the previous look that covered the map with the bottom sheet. You can see this in the screenshots we've embedded in this article. Most of you might consider this to be a minor change that is not a big deal but it does improve the look of the app. It also makes the Pixel Weather app more consistent across different Pixel models since the Pixel Tablet and the Pixel Fold, both large-screen devices, already use the floating card design for the Pixel Weather app. The new version of the Weather map comes with version 1.0.20250408.758982743 of the Pixel Weather app which was disseminated over the last few days. It's another example of Google tinkering with an app and making a minor change that improves the look of the app. You can install the Pixel Weather app from the Play Store by tapping on this link.

FORECAST: Scattered showers Sunday, drying out during the week

ABOVE: The latest forecast update from Severe Weather Center 9. To stay on top of changing weather conditions, be sure to download our free WSOC-TV weather app. FORECAST: A much quieter day today than yesterday. A couple of mostly weak scattered showers/maybe a thunderstorm well to our north ie, Boone to north of Salisbury, which will die out at sunset, otherwise uneventful. Note, however, the haziness of the sky. This is smoke from Canadian wildfires. MOST of this, so far, is at high altitude and not reaching the surface, which is good, keeping surface air quality levels in check. Let's hope it stays that way. Sunday, the scattered shower/thunderstorm chance goes up a bit for the afternoon/early evening with a new wave of low pressure and front inching back into the local area. The airmass tomorrow will be different than Friday, meaning the potential for strong-severe thunderstorms is significantly less and much more scattered, not zero, but much less. Once we get to Monday, it still looks like we begin a stretch of quiet, dry weather (much needed) and a decent warm up. This should last through Thursday with temperatures rising back to 85-90 by midweek. >> Channel 9's Weather 24/7 stream has the latest local weather all day, every day. Monday, May 26 forecast: On and off rain chances into the weekend

Flooding has been a major issue around the Ozarks, hampering holiday plans on area rivers along with creating dangerous driving conditions. This is especially true around low water crossings, many of which have been impacted by flooding through the weekend. See flood drone footage here Download our KOLR 10 weather app The soggy pattern hung around again today, but at least the rainfall rates were lighter. Today's wave of rain will slip out overnight, but on-and-off rain chances will continue into the weekend. Tuesday will start with cloudy and cool conditions. Much of the day looks dry, but there are signs that another wave of mostly light rain could push through sometime during the afternoon. Temperatures will remain cool for late May with afternoon highs near 70°. Rain chances slump to near zero Tuesday night into Wednesday. Clouds will thin out some too, offering up a little sunshine and a bit of a boost in high temperatures. The dry weather will be short-lived though. Another wave of low pressure will move through the area Thursday, bringing showers and some thunder. The rain will move in during the morning, moving out as we head through the afternoon. Rain amounts won't be as heavy as this past weekend, but we'll still be soaked in many spots with rain totals near half an inch over Southwest Missouri into Northern Arkansas. Thursday's storm will finally clear out the clouds for a day. Friday is shaping up to be bright and mild. Another system will move into the Ozarks Saturday, bringing a risk of scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. At this stage, severe weather chances look limited. Sunday looks dry, and both days look warmer with highs around 80°. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Thunderstorms to continue impacting weekend plans

Memorial Day may be the unofficial start of summer, however, this holiday weekend is going to feel like a wet spring. Additional waves of thunderstorms are set to arrive returning the potential of flooding rains. If you have any outdoor plans for this weekend I have some positive news, I am not expecting a constant downpour rather bursts of thunderstorms. Additionally, most of these waves are set to arrive in the overnight hours rather than during the day. While storms kicked off the early morning hours today, we will get a pause in the rain this afternoon. Temperatures will try to climb into the 70s under peaks of sunshine. The break in the soggy pattern won't be lasting for long, as storms will fire back up overnight. We will have to watch out for some of these storms dropping roughly quarter sized hail. We will wrap up the rainfall on Tuesday. All said and done, the total will be fairly impressive. Most spots should prepare to see 2 and 5″ with the heaviest rain falling across Southwest Missouri and Northern Arkansas, closer to the front. This is where rain totals will likely exceed 5″ in many spots with totals potentially approaching 8″ in a few spots. Even after the rain pushes out at the start of the work week, cooler temperatures will be here to stay. Highs for this week will only peak in the lower to mid 70s. Near record heat continues after the weekend

The heat wave continued on to close out the weekend and the warmth is expected to start the work week. We will see just a few clouds tonight, with warm conditions continuing. Expect morning lows in the mid-70s. More near-record warmth is expected for Monday. We will again see partly cloudy skies, with highs in the mid-90s. A very stray sprinkle will be possible in the p.m. hours, but most will stay dry. Even warmer temperatures look likely for Tuesday. Temperatures will soar into the mid- and upper 90s, with dry conditions. Midweek will bring slightly cooler weather. Wednesday will likely see a blend of sun and clouds, with highs in the mid-90s. A cold front arrives Thursday, finally ending the heat wave across the area. A few showers will also be possible, with highs in the low 90s. Cooler temps will continue to move in for Friday, with highs in the low 90s. More moisture does return for Memorial Day weekend, with scattered showers and a few storms are expected.
