More white South Africans arrive in the US under a new refugee program
JOHANNESBURG (AP) — A second group of white South Africans has arrived in the United States under a refugee program announced by the Trump administration, officials and advocacy groups said Monday. Nine people, including families and children, arrived late last week, said Jaco Kleynhans, head of international liaison at the Solidarity Movement, a group representing members of South Africa's white Afrikaner minority. The group traveled on a commercial flight, he said. A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy said in an email to The Associated Press that 'refugees continue to arrive in the United States from South Africa on commercial flights as part of the Afrikaner resettlement program's ongoing operations.' An initial group of 59 white South Africans arrived at Dulles International Airport in Virginia on a chartered flight last month under the new program announced by U.S. President Donald Trump in February. The Trump administration fast-tracked the resettlement of white South Africans after indefinitely suspending other U.S. refugee programs. The Trump administration said it is offering refugee status to white South Africans it alleges are being persecuted by their Black-led government and are victims of racially motivated violence. The South African government has denied the allegations and said they are a mischaracterization of the country. Trump has falsely claimed that white South African farmers are targeted in widespread attacks that amount to genocide and are having their land taken away. Trump confronted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with those baseless claims during a meeting at the White House last month. Ramaphosa has said the relatively small number of attacks on white farmers are part of South Africa's larger problems with violent crime, which affects all races. The Trump administration initially said the refugee program was aimed at members of South Africa's Afrikaner minority, who are descendants of mainly Dutch and French colonial settlers. In new guidance published by the U.S. Embassy last month, applicants must be 'a member of a racial minority' in South Africa and 'must be able to articulate a past experience of persecution or fear of future persecution.' There are approximately 2.7 million Afrikaners among South Africa's population of 62 million, which is more than 80% Black. They are not the only white minority. There are around 4.5 million whites in total, including those with British or other heritage. The U.S. Embassy spokesperson said the U.S. 'continues to review inquiries from individuals who have expressed interest to the embassy in resettling to the United States and is reaching out to eligible individuals for refugee interviews and processing.' While U.S. officials have not said how many South Africans have applied to be relocated, Kleynhans said there have been around 8,000 applications. Another group helping white South Africans apply for refugee status has said tens of thousands have applied. ___ AP Africa news:

Report reveals extent of Trump's white South African refugee scheme
A State Department official has revealed that President Donald Trump is planning to resettle "thousands" of white South Africans in the US, according to a report. Earlier this month, Mr Trump granted 59 white South Africans entry to the US as "refugees", leading to accusations that he ambushed South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with claims of a "white genocide". A government official told the Daily Caller that the number of white Afrikaner refugees is expected to surge in the latter half of summer, with potential arrivals in the hundreds or thousands. The State Department reported receiving nearly 50,000 enquiries from South Africans interested in the resettlement program. In March, Mr Trump claimed on Truth Social that South Africa is mistreating long-time farmers and confiscating their land, coinciding with Elon Musk's appointment to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Trump admin plans to resettle ‘thousands' of white South Africans in US this summer, report says
President Donald Trump is planning on resettling 'thousands' of white South Africans in the U.S., a State Department official has revealed in a new report. Earlier this month, Trump granted a group of 59 white South Africans entry to the United States as ' refugees.' Afterwards, Trump was accused of ambushing South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with claims of a 'white genocide' by flashing articles and videos of alleged violence against white farmers in the country. Several pieces of evidence that Trump provided were found to be misleading, incorrect, or entirely unrelated to his claims. Now, a government official has told that the number of white Afrikaner refugees is expected to surge 'towards the second half of summer.' 'We won't be talking about dozens of arrivals, but hundreds and perhaps thousands,' the official told the outlet. The White House has not commented on the matter. The official said that he was 'confident in saying that [...] towards the second half of summer, we'll start to massively scale this up.' The State Department said on Thursday that it had received nearly 50,000 inquiries from South Africans interested in the program, according to the New York Times. The Trump administration expects the number to 'continue to rise,' according to The Caller. In March, Trump claimed that 'South Africa is being terrible, plus, to long-time Farmers in the country. 'They are confiscating their LAND and FARMS, and MUCH WORSE THAN THAT,' he wrote on Truth Social. The timing of his tirade came as Trump and the world's richest man, and South African Tesla billionaire, Elon Musk, were closely tied thanks to the latter's role with the Department of Government Efficiency. The news of this resettlement comes as the Trump administration continues its efforts to ramp up arrests of undocumented immigrants. Meanwhile, dozens of people who are legally permitted to be in the U.S. have also been caught in the crossfire of Trump's immigration crusade, prompting stark criticism about the rushed nature of mass deportations. Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Trump's administration could temporarily revoke the legal status of over 500,000 migrants living in the U.S.

Trump's image of ‘dead white farmers' came from DRC, not SA
Andrea Widburg, managing editor at American Thinker and author of the post in question, wrote in reply to a Reuters query that Trump had "misidentified the image". She added, however, that the post, which referred to what it called Ramaphosa's "dysfunctional, race-obsessed Marxist government", had "pointed out the increasing pressure placed on white South Africans". The footage from which the picture was taken shows a mass burial after an M23 assault on Goma, filmed by Reuters video journalist Djaffar Al Katanty. "That day it was extremely difficult for journalists to get in. I had to negotiate directly with M23 and coordinate with the International Committee of the Red Cross to be allowed to film," Al Katanty said. "Only Reuters has video." Al Katanty said seeing Trump holding the article with the screengrab of his video came as a shock. "In view of all the world, President Trump used my image, used what I filmed in the DRC to try to convince President Ramaphosa that in his country, white people are being killed by black people," Al Katanty said.
