Explosion behind Lenoir restaurant causes extensive damage
No one was hurt Tuesday afternoon after an explosion behind a Mexican restaurant in Lenoir, officials said. Lenoir police rescue human trafficking victim from apartment The explosion on Norwood Street SW caused extensive damage and nearby neighbors said it shook their homes. Channel 9 viewers, including Ken Bailey, sent photos of the fire behind the Taqueria El Tio Rico. The owner said there was damage to the restaurant after the fire and explosion near a storage area in the back. A tank landed across Connelly Springs Road and damaged fencing around the building. There were workers there but fortunately none of them were hurt. 'Because of the flames and intense heat, some of the firefighters were checked out after the fire was brought under control,' said Lenoir Fire Chief Norman Staines. The natural gas company also was at the scene. The cause of the explosion is under investigation. No additional details have been made available. This is a developing story. Police investigating a death in west Charlotte
Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are investigating a death along Golf Acres Drive, according to an CMPD alert on X. Homes, cars struck in Iredell County shootout
Some residents in Iredell County said their homes were struck during a shootout that deputies said may have started over a case of road rage. Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene off Interstate 77, just south of Statesville, on Thursday. Channel 9's Dave Faherty was first on the scene at Wall Street, where a large police presence could be seen. Two cars were seen with damage in the area, but one eyewitness said that as many as five people were involved in the shooting. State troopers told Faherty that one of the weapons used in the shootout was an assault rifle. READ: Investigators search for road rage suspects One woman took Faherty around her home and showed him where bullets struck her residence. She said there were children in her home at the time of the shootout. She said they dropped to the floor to duck for cover as shots rang out for about three minutes. Thursday's police presence could be seen from Chopper 9 Skyzoom as deputies and state troopers attempted to locate the suspects. It is possible that the suspects got rides out of the area just before deputies arrived, the sheriff said. Channel 9 checked over the jail and has not yet seen any arrests. 1 sent to hospital in Memorial Day stabbing, MEDIC says
One person was sent to the hospital in a southwest Charlotte stabbing on Monday morning, MEDIC said. Paramedics responded to the scene at the 9000 block of Bowling Green Lane around 10:45 a.m. on Memorial Day. 40 subsidized housing apartment units without power
Power was cut off at several apartment complexes in Hickory on Thursday. The lights went out at Camden Meadows, Keating Pointe and Waverly Ridge around 3 p.m. on Thursday. The apartments are subsidized through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The management for the complexes, Bar Residential Development, is located in Myrtle Beach. They took over the management for the complexes two months ago. And the management is responsible for paying Duke Energy. Faherty spoke with the management company, which said about 40 apartment units are without power. And they are hoping to get the power back on by the end of the day Friday. They also told Faherty that they didn't know of a P.O. box that the bills were being sent to. Thirty families were placed in hotels on Thursday night, according to Bar Residential. The city mayor told Faherty this is not the first time something like this has happened.
