New project coming to improve south Caddo Parish traffic. Check out road construction
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced Thursday a project aimed at improving safety and congestion at the I-49 southbound interchange with Southern Loop.
This $1.5-million project involves constructing a second southbound exit lane adjacent to the existing lane. This will increase the vehicle capacity while keeping traffic from backing up onto the interstate.
According to DOTD, the existing ramp will remain open during construction.
"Motorists should be aware of crews and equipment on site and drive with caution through the area," DOTD said.
DOTD said work on this project was scheduled to begin Thursday with a shoulder closure going in to place.
The entire project is anticipated to be completed by fall 2025, "progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines," DOTD said.
