I-80 shut down after incident involving law enforcement in Dallas County

DALLAS COUNTY, Iowa — An incident involving law enforcement caused the closure of I-80 in both directions of travel in Dallas County early Tuesday morning. The first call went out on law enforcement dispatch radios around 1:30 Tuesday morning. On the law enforcement radio traffic, a dispatcher said, 'Deputy says male is actively shooting at her.' Officers closed I-80 west of De Soto as the investigation unfolded. And within 20 minutes, an officer is heard saying, 'Suspect's down, 153.' There's not a lot of information from officials at this time. I-80 was closed in both directions of travel between Exit 104 and Exit 106 for hours, but as of around 7:20 a.m., the westbound lanes are open again. A detour is in place for eastbound traffic that takes drivers through Redfield. Check back to for more details as they are made available. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Firefighters battle flames at southside Des Moines used book store

DES MOINES, Iowa — Firefighters are on the scene at a southside Des Moines used bookstore after passersby reported flames coming from the building. Capt. Stacia Swanson of the Des Moines Fire Department said the first calls came in around 9:51 a.m. Wednesday about a fire at 4626 SW 9th Street, at the corner of Herold Avenue. The building houses the Help A Mind Thrive Keep A Book store. Multiple fire crews were dispatched to the fire because of the large amount of flammable material in the structure. There are four engines on the scene and three aerial trucks working to put out the flames by dumping water through the roof. Capt. Swanson said she expected fire crews to be working on the fire for some time because the building was full of books. No individuals were reported in the building when the fire started. At this point, there isn't any indication the fire is suspicious according to Capt. Swanson. A fire investigator is on the scene to help determine the cause once all the flames have been extinguished. SW 9th Street is closed in the area near the fire because of firefighting operations. This is a developing story. Check back to for more details as they become available. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
