BowFlex Adjustable Dumbbells Recalled Due To Impact Hazard
Johnson Health Tech Trading, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 3.8 million BowFlex 552 and 1090 adjustable dumbbells due to an impact hazard. The weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, posing a risk of injury. The recall involves BowFlex 552 (52.5-pound) and 1090 (90-pound) adjustable dumbbells, sold in pairs and single units. These black dumbbells include handles, weight plates, and a molded plastic tray. The model 552 adjusts from 5 to 52.5 pounds, and the model 1090 adjusts from 10 to 90 pounds using manual adjustment knobs while nested in the base. The model and serial numbers are printed on a sticker on the bottom of the plastic tray. A full list of affected serial numbers is available at 'BowFlex Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection in March 2024,' the CPSC stated. 'Johnson Health Tech Trading has agreed to provide a remedy for the 552 and 1090 adjustable dumbbells sold by BowFlex Inc., (formerly Nautilus Inc.), prior to May 2024 as a part of this recall.' Johnson Health Tech Trading reported 12 incidents of plates dislodging with no injuries for the units it sold. Nautilus reported 337 incidents, including 111 injuries such as concussions, abrasions, broken toes, or contusions. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dumbbells and contact Johnson Health Tech Trading for a remedy. For units sold by Johnson Health Tech Trading, consumers can receive a refund voucher or a replacement. For units sold by BowFlex Inc. (formerly Nautilus Inc.), consumers can request a prorated refund voucher and a one-year JRNY digital fitness membership. A pre-paid shipping label will be provided to return the handle and base. Johnson Health Tech Trading is contacting known purchasers directly.
