Theatre group to bring in bell-ringing performance in July
AFTER six months of hard work, a Carlisle theatre group is getting ready to tread the boards with its first full two-act musical since the pandemic.
The Rocket Theatre Group, which has been around since 2016, will be bringing a story of love, bravery, and redemption to the stage with its production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel and Disney's animated adaptation, the show tells the touching story of Quasimodo, the kind and courageous bell ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, and Esmeralda, a fearless and compassionate Romani woman.
The show will feature a cast of 50 young performers aged 12 to 18 from the Rocket Senior Group.

Wendy Dunn, artistic director, said: "Our students have loved working on this show over the past six months.
"It is the first two-act full musical we have produced since Covid, so it's been a big show to produce.
"We are so impressed by their dedication and talent, our students never cease to amaze us."

The show features music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, whose other credits include Wicked, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.
Previous productions by Rocket Theatre Group include Into the Woods, Bugsy Malone, and Spamalot.

The full-stage musical production will be performed at Stanwix Theatre in Carlisle on Saturday July 5 and Sunday, July 6, with showtimes at 2pm and 6pm.

"Don't miss out on this chance to watch these talented young performers bring this powerful story to life," a spokesperson added.
The theatre group is also offering a week-long summer camp featuring songs and dances from the musical Wicked.
The camp will run from July 28 into August, ending with two showcase performances for friends and family at 4pm and 6pm on the final day.
