Egypt: Schneider Electric launches "Energy Efficiency Audits" to back businesses achieve sustainability
Arab Finance: Schneider Electric has launched its new 'Energy Efficiency Audits' initiative, as per an emailed press release. This initiative confirms the company's commitment to supporting businesses and companies in their transition toward more sustainable operations and achieving net-zero operations. It helps businesses boost their energy efficiency and reduce their consumption. Under this initiative, Schneider Electric will conduct 25 comprehensive energy efficiency audits across 25 different entities and facilities, and fully cover their costs. These in-depth assessments will encompass all operational processes and scopes, focusing on optimizing energy consumption and reducing carbon footprint in critical areas such as cooling, compressed air systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and building systems. With this initiative, Schneider Electric reaffirms its capability to deliver integrated, end-to-end sustainability solutions, ranging from strategic planning and advanced digital transformation to full-scale decarbonization by leveraging available opportunities. This campaign reflects Schneider Electric's vision to be the trusted partner for its customers in both sustainability and energy efficiency. Industry min., French amb. discuss launching construction work of Alstom industrial complex CAIRO - 25 March 2025: Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir Tuesday discussed with French Ambassador to Egypt Éric Chevallier the timeline of the implementation of Alstom industrial complex in Borg EL Arab city, Alexandria governorate. During the meeting, the minister underscored the strength of historic Egyptian-French relations in all economic and development domains, most notably developing the railway transport sector, electric traction projects, and the metro. Wazir affirmed keenness on continuing close cooperation and boosting partnership between Egypt and France in the fields of transport and industry, a similar keenness was affirmed by the French ambassador. Chevallier highlighted the French government's interest in promoting cooperation with Egypt in all domains, including the sectors of transport and industry, in light of the strong relations between the two countries. The meeting tackled the follow-up of the roadmap for the Greater Cairo Metro Line 6 project. The work plan of the project was signed between Egypt and France throughout the past period. The project falls within the framework of implementing the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to expand the establishment of a network of green, sustainable, and environmentally friendly mass transportation means, and to complete the metro network to provide premium quality service to citizens. The meeting took up updates of setting up Alstom industrial complex in Borg El Arab logistics and industrial zone. The project will feature two factories on a 40-feddan site, with one dedicated to producing spare parts for Metro Line 6 and the other focused on cable manufacturing. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in Egypt's transportation infrastructure, addressing the increasing demand for metro system components.

German, French embassies hold panel on protection of marine ecosystems in Egypt - Society
The Embassies of Germany and France in Egypt hosted a panel discussion at the Institut Français d'Egypte titled 'Elevating Ocean Solutions for Climate Action: Bridging Science, Policy, and Implementation'. The event was held on Tuesday in preparation for the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3), scheduled for June 2025 in Nice, France. It brought together key stakeholders to address pressing marine and climate challenges. Approximately 150 attendees from Egypt, France, and Germany, including policymakers, scientists, and civil society representatives, addressed the global significance of oceans in climate change and focused on Egypt's role in marine protection. In addition, the participants in the event emphasized the need for more substantial commitments under the Paris Agreement. They highlighted the ongoing ratification of the United Nations BBNJ Agreement (Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction), a landmark international treaty to bolster multilateral marine protection. Furthermore, the event constituted part of the Cairo Climate Talks, an initiative by the German Embassy fostering dialogue between Egypt and Germany on environmental and energy-related issues. The event is also a part of Blue Talks, a global program spearheaded by France in the lead-up to UNOC 3. Éric Chevallier, Ambassador of France to Egypt, and Jürgen Schulz, Ambassador of Germany to Egypt, inaugurated the session. 'The protection of the oceans and marine ecosystems is a priority for us,' stated Ambassador Chevallier. 'As we approach the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement of 2015, France is preparing to host the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference. Addressing climate change is a shared responsibility, and Egypt, like France and Germany, plays a crucial role in marine protection,' he added. On the other hand, Ambassador Schulz underscored the necessity of cooperation to combat climate change effects and achieve marine protection. 'Sustainable solutions to safeguard our oceans and climate can only be developed through strong synergies between science, policy, and practice. Minister of Industry and Transport, French Ambassador explore Schneider Electric's plant expansion in Badr City
Reflecting the Egyptian government's steadfast commitment to supporting and encouraging local and foreign investments and fostering economic growth, H.E. Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, along with H.E. Éric Chevallier, French Ambassador to Cairo, recently paid a visit to Schneider Electric's plant in Badr City. The visit aimed to explore the latest expansions on site, the existing production lines and the cutting-edge digital solutions at the plant. A senior delegation headed by Sebastien Riez, CEO of Schneider Electric Northeast Africa & Levant; Arda Çimen, Plant Manager; Mona Samir, Vice President of Business & Government Affairs; and Mohamed El-Setouhy, Vice President of DCC Commercial Program & Export Business, welcomed the Minister and Ambassador. They showcased the company's state-of-the-art facilities and future-ready production lines. This visit aligns with the Egyptian government's commitment to empowering the local industrial sector, strengthening the Egyptian-French partnership, creating job opportunities for the local workforce, as well as enhancing Egypt's position as a regional hub for manufacturing and exports. It also aims to promote sustainable industrial development and drive economic growth in line with Egypt's Vision 2030. During the visit, H.E. Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al Wazir and H.E. Éric Chevallier have explored the plant's new expansions. The facility, the largest of its kind in the Middle East and Africa was established in 2009, spanning 44,600 m², with 16,000 m² dedicated to its state-of-the-art building that meets the latest standards. Schneider Electric's Plant in Badr City has an annual production capacity of 9,000 medium-voltage units, 3,000 low-voltage units, and 18 kilometers of busways, all powered by Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure technology. This technology delivers smart, connected solutions, ensuring efficient, high-quality output while maintaining carbon neutrality. The Plant is continuously expanding as part of Schneider Electric's ambitious long-term investment strategy in Egypt. In 2020, the company invested €10 million to establish a production line for manufacturing electrical panels. This was followed by an additional €8 million investment in 2023 to expand production lines across 10,000 m² in order to produce low and medium-voltage panels and ring main unit (RMU). These expansions position the planet as a leader in technological innovation and sustainability in the region, enhancing its capacity to meet both local and regional demand. Additionally, it exports over 40% of its production to 35 countries, including Saudi Arabia, France, Algeria, Kenya, and Uganda. In 2024, the percentage of locally sourced components in its products rose to 81%, with a target of reaching 85% in 2025, contributing to strengthening the local industry and enhancing its competitiveness. Additionally, Schneider Electric's Badr City plane is the first in the world to assemble and launch the MCSeT with EvoPacT product, reflecting the factory's leadership in technological innovation and its ability to meet market demands. As part of his press statement on the sidelines of his tour of the Schneider Electric plant, H.E. Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, affirmed the government's commitment to supporting and encouraging domestic industries and resolving any challenges faced by investors. He pointed out that this visit aligns with the government's urgent plan to elevate Egypt's industrial sector, which is centered around seven key pillars. One of the most important of these pillars is manufacturing, with a focus on high-quality and cost-effective products to meet both domestic demand and export requirements. The Minister commended the significant and continuous development of the Schneider Electric plant, particularly its production line for medium-voltage cells (KV24), which supplies products to various countries worldwide. He also highlighted the possibility of establishing a training center in collaboration with the Productive Efficiency and Professional Training Authority (PVTD) to enhance the skills and qualifications of graduates, thereby meeting the Egyptian industry's demand for skilled labor. The Minister noted that the ministry is currently allocating these centers to the private sector for management and operation, and Schneider Electric has expressed interest in a similar partnership in collaboration with The French University in Egypt - UFE. H.E. Éric Chevallier, French Ambassador to Cairo, stated: "Schneider Electric's contribution to the bilateral relationship is exemplary, being both longstanding and firmly established. Single-use plastics have been eliminated at the plant in favor of recycled packaging with aims to reach 50% green materials in its products in 2025. Badr plant plays a pivotal role in creating job opportunities for the Egyptian workforce, by creating more than 650 direct and indirect jobs. Schneider Electric strongly emphasizes diversity and inclusion, with women representing 11% of the workforce and young employees constituting 39% of the staff.
