Iraq reports 1,800 suffocation cases due to sandstorm

Published April 15th, 2025 - 05:51 GMT ALBAWABA - Health authorities in Iraq have recorded over 1,800 cases of suffocation due to a sandstorm that hit central and southern Iraq, local media reported on Tuesday. The sandstorm reduced visibility in several areas and disrupted air traffic at Najaf and Basra international airports. In detail, hospitals in Muthanna Governorate recorded more than 700 suffocation cases, while more than 250 others were admitted to hospitals for the same reason in Najaf Governorate. الآن.. مقطع لعاصفة رملية مرعبة تضرب العراق حالياً حولت كل شيء إلى اللون الأحمر وتأثرت بها بعض المناطق والدول المحيطة. — إياد الحمود (@Eyaaaad) April 14, 2025 On the other hand, Iraqi authorities warned people who are most affected by the storms for instance people who have chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and the elderly with heart failure, not to go outside in the sandstorm. It's worth noting that Iraq experienced a similar sandstorm in 2022, which resulted in at least one death and nearly 5,000 hospitalizations due to respiratory problems. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Video: Turkish woman cooks raw Kofta in a Saudi mosque

Published February 27th, 2025 - 06:41 GMT ALBAWABA - A woman has sparked debate on social media after a video of her doing a raw Kofta dish inside the Prophet's Mosque in Saudi Arabia went viral online. A clip that went viral on the X platform showed a woman sitting on the ground in the yard of the Prophet's Mosque, kneading raw Kofta, a popular meatball dish in Turkey. The video was taken by another woman who was heard speaking in the background and confirmed that it was taken before the dawn prayer inside the Prophet's Mosque in Saudi Arabia. A wide range of comments questioned the purpose of the video as many said this is an inappropriate thing to do. A person commented: "You should have completed it with a shawarma dish." — إياد الحمود (@Eyaaaad) February 26, 2025 Another one questioned: "Where are the officials?" as he was concerned such behavior should be banned and that the woman should get punishment for what she did, adding that these sites are considered holy and customized for prayers and not for making food. A netizen said this is an 'unbecoming behavior' and the 'cleanliness' of the mosque is the responsibility of everyone who visits for prayers. The Prophet's Mosque is known as the second mosque built by the Islamic prophet Muhammad in Medina after the Quba Mosque. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (
