Ewan McGregor squared up to me —Maureen Lipman held him back
Some people might find it hard to believe that Ewan McGregor and his mate Charley Boorman have been making motorbike-based travel shows for 20 whole years, but not me. It was almost 20 years ago, on my second day's paid work as a journalist, freelancing in the world of showbiz gossip, that I bumped into Boorman at a book launch and he told me all about his new TV series, By Any Means, which I think involved riding a camel from Ireland to Sydney.
Was Ewan involved in this one? 'No,' came the answer and, being an affable, self-deprecating sort, jovially aware of his slightly less glittering status in the celebrity firmament, he added: 'I didn't think I could carry him through another series.
