Serbia Approves New Premier in Bid to Tame Unrelenting Protests
Serbian lawmakers approved a political novice as premier on Wednesday, in a government reboot that aims to tame unrelenting street protests against the establishment dominated by President Aleksandar Vucic. Prime Minister Djuro Macut now leads a 31-member cabinet with key posts held by representatives of Vucic's party and allies. The change comes months after the previous premier stepped down amid massive anti-corruption rallies triggered by a deadly canopy collapse at a railway station.

Serbia's Vucic Picks Physician to Head Government Amid Protests
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic nominated political novice Djuro Macut for prime minister after the previous government quit in the face of protests triggered by a deadly outside roof collapse at a train station. Macut, 61, a university lecturer and a practicing physician, is likely to take over on the strength of a parliamentary majority held by Vucic's Progressive party and allies. Lawmakers must approve him by April 18 or trigger an early election.
