Iraq's clean energy projects to generate 12,000 megawatts
Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, confirmed on Thursday that Iraq's renewable energy projects are planned to generate 12,000 megawatts. Abdul-Ghani's remarks took place during his participation in the international Summit on the Future of Energy Security held in the British capital, London, where he emphasized that fossil fuels will remain an important source of energy in the coming years, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA). The Iraqi minister cited the government's intentions to increase the use of renewable energy, particularly power generation from solar energy projects, which aim to produce 12,000 megawatts. Abdul-Ghani also discussed the advantages of using associated gas through a number of initiatives, such as the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP), which is being carried out in collaboration with France-based TotalEnergies. The initiative involves the first-ever use of seawater to assist with oil extraction operations, according to Abdul-Ghani. In collaboration with the British government and the International Energy Agency (IEA), the summit is attended by top officials and energy ministers from over 60 countries, as well as significant international energy corporations.

Wood selected by TotalEnergies to advance Ratawi field redevelopment in Iraq, as part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project Wood, a global leader in consulting and engineering, has been awarded two new engineering and procurement framework agreements worth $11 million by TotalEnergies EP Ratawi Hub as part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) , a multi-energy project designed to enhance the development of Iraq's natural resources and improve the country's electricity supply at the Ratawi field in Iraq. Each of the new contracts has a three-year term under which Wood will support TotalEnergies to advance the Associated Gas Upstream Project (AGUP) , a key part of the GGIP project. The aim is to debottleneck and upgrade existing facilities to increase energy production capacity to 120,000 barrels of oil per day on completion of the first phase. Shaun Dewar, Senior Vice President of Operations, Middle East and Africa at Wood said: " We have an extensive track record in brownfield facility modifications and are committed to delivering safe, quality and innovative outcomes for TotalEnergies. Wood has supported the Ratawi field since 2023. "We have held six recruitment days, hiring 70 Iraqis to work at the Ratawi operations hub across a range of disciplines including HSE, logistics, quality, construction, welding, electrical and document control. " The contracts will be delivered by Wood's teams in Basra and the United Arab Emirates, creating additional roles as the scopes progress. Wood currently employs over 4,000 people across the Middle East, having increased its headcount by 500 in 2024. Iraq gas contracts worth $11M secured by Wood Group
Baghdad ( – Wood Group has been awarded two engineering and procurement contracts worth a combined $11 million by a TotalEnergies subsidiary for work on a major gas development project in Iraq's Ratawi field. The contracts are part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP), where TotalEnergies holds a 45% stake. Specifically, the deals come from TotalEnergies EP Ratawi Hub and will support the Associated Gas Upstream Project (AGUP) over a three-year period. The initiative aims to enhance existing infrastructure and increase production capacity to 120,000 barrels of oil per day once its initial phase is complete. Wood's teams in Basra and the United Arab Emirates will fulfill the contracts, and as the scopes develop, additional roles will be created, according to the Abderdeen-based firm.
