PRINZ Unveils Supreme Award At The 2025 PRINZ Awards – Pead Brought The Haka Home
Press Release – PRINZ Pead took home the coveted Supreme Award at the annual PRINZ Awards for their campaign, Restoring Mana: The World's Largest Haka for Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust. 180 PR Professionals gathered last night to celebrate excellence and achievement in Aotearoa's public relations and communications sector, which resulted in over 75 award winners. The categories ranged from Best Use of Digital and Social Media to PR In-House Team of the Year to Marketing Communication. This year, five campaigns went head-to-head to take away the final award of the evening, the Supreme Award. Each campaign, submitted by Acumen New Zealand, Pead, Hamilton City Council, Great Scott and Special PR, received gold awards in their respective categories, making them eligible for this award. Ultimately, Pead was unveiled as the Supreme Award Winner for their work with the Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust. Pead's campaign was born when the Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust was faced with funding cuts. After looking into Aotearoa's most marked act of unity, they found that the Guiness World Record for the World's Largest Haka was held by France. They created a nation-wide call to action, reclaim the World's Largest Haka title from the French and raise funds for RMTT. Their efforts resulted in 6467 New Zealanders performing the Haka at Eden Park Stadium and over half a million dollars raised for RMTT. Furthermore, their campaign led Guinness to revise its rules ensuring only Māori can lead future haka records. The judges noted that their campaign 'brought all of New Zealand and the world on an exciting journey to create positive change'. It was described as joyful, insightful, creative and a truly inclusive communications campaign. Chief Judges Nikki Wright APR FPRINZ and Andrew Pirie FPRINZ comment 'This bold, nation-building campaign showcased some of the best qualities of public relations as it harnessed the power of haka to unite New Zealanders and reclaim the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the World's Largest Haka. It aptly combined cultural pride with a charitable purpose.' Other notable gold awards of the evening were awarded to One Plus One Communications for PR Consultancy of the Year (Large), Scope Communications for PR Consultancy of the Year (Small to Medium) and ProCare for PR In-House Team of the Year. The Public Relations Institute of New Zealand were thrilled to have celebrated another year of incredible mahi in Aotearoa at the PRINZ Awards Gala Dinner last night. The calibre of campaigns this year was extremely high and represents just how valuable the public relations and communications industry really is. Meet actress who holds Guiness World Record for starring with same co-star in 130 films, 50 were superhits.., she is.., her co-star is... In the golden era of cinema, celebrities were worshiped like gods and were seen for their grace, style, and personality, beyond their vanity. From the gripping dramas to the impeccable performance, audiences loved every bit of the celebrities, and the audience eagerly invested in the chemistry of co-stars, often celebrated their reel life pairing as if they were real. Long before the iconic pairing of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol defined a romantic pairing for a generation, there was another pairing that charmed the audience with their chemistry so much so that even the biggest stars of today haven't come close. This tale is of the actress Sheela Selin, who was a legendary Malayalam actress who holds a record for starring in over 130 films opposite one co-star, Prem Nazir. Giving an entire era of blockbusters, Sheela and Prem had delivered more than 50 hits, which also contributed to Sheela earning a place in the Guinness World Records. Soon, she became the most bankable female star, bagging a massive fan following, and filmmakers lined up to cast her. Later, her contribution to indian cinema was also recognised with a National Award. But besides her craft, what truly set her apart was her determination, consistency, and connection with fans. In the industry where many pairings come and go, starring opposite the same star wasn't just about their iconic chemistry; it was a phenomenon. Exonerated Japanese inmate wins $1.44M for decades served on death row
March 25 (UPI) -- An 89-year-old Japanese man who spent nearly half a century on death row for a 1966 quadruple murder before being exonerated last year was awarded a record $1.44 million in compensation on Tuesday. Iwao Hakamata was found guilty in 1968 for the June 30, 1966, stabbing deaths of four people. However, a retrial last year threw out his conviction after ruling that evidence incriminating him was fabricated by police. On Tuesday, the Shizuoka District Court on Japan's southern coast ordered the government to pay Hakamata the sum in compensation for his decades of wrongful detention. The judge, Kunii Koshi, said Hakamata had suffered "extremely severe" mental and physical pain caused by his imprisonment, the BBC reported. Local media reported that the $1.44 million is a record compensation amount. The ruling comes in one of Japan's longest legal battles. Hakamata served 47 years in prison, 33 of which were on death row, making him the holder of the Guiness World Record for the longest time spent on death row. The former boxer was acquitted in September after the Shizuoka District Court ruled his confession was forced and that evidence was fabricated on at least three occasions. Among the fabricated evidence was bloodstained clothing that had been found 4 months after the killings in a miso barrel at the factory where Hakamata worked. The court ruled it had been created and planted by police, with Hakamata's legal representatives arguing in court that the clothing would have been stained if it had been stashed in a miso barrel for so long.

Photos: The show mutts go on
Most of the dogs, from shelters and animal rescues, will perform in 40 shows across the country this year. Pixel posed in a preshow warmup on stage at the Mutts Gone Nuts acrobatic dog show. John Tlumacki/Globe Staff The Norwell theater was packed with mesmerized children, some munching on fresh popcorn and holding stuffed dogs that could be purchased in the lobby. Scott and Joan Houghton of Glen Arm, Md., have been producing the show since 2005. They began performing together in1984 as a comedy juggling and unicycling act, even performing in Harvard Square and Faneuil Hall Marketplace in the 1980s. 'Having rescue dogs in the shows gives us a mission,' Scott said. The dogs also have trainers who travel with the show and use positive reinforcement. 'We want our dogs to have fun. When they get too old to perform some of the stunts, we find something easy for them.' Joan said. One of their rescue dogs, a greyhound called Feather, holds the Guinness World Record for jumping 75.5 inches high over a hurdle during a 2017 competition. Scott and Joan Houghton cheered on three dogs wheeling a cylinder on stage during the Mutts Gone Nuts acrobatic dog show, which made a stop at the Company Theatre in Norwell on Feb. 20 during its national tour. John Tlumacki/Globe Staff 'Our show is so visual. What an impact you can have on people.' Joan said. Many of the high-flying acts are done by the border collies. 'Some of the border collies are so smart. They know the routine so well they want to rush through it.' Joan added. One of the show's traveling dog trainers, Alexandra Cote from Quebec, has been with the show for just one year and says she is loving it. Cote gained fame in 2021 during her appearance on 'America's Got Talent' with her border collies Tesla and Louka. She received a standing ovation from all four judges. The Mutts Gone Nuts will be in Manchester, N.H., on May 3 after another cross-country tour for several months, with the Houghtons traveling in their camper trailer with some of the dogs. 'We're never away from the dogs,' Joan said. 'A vacation for us is just going home after being on the road.' As the curtain came down, and the crowd filed out, dim blue stage lights formed a halo around Feather, curled up on a shaggy bed backstage after another memorable performance.
