After 15 Years, the 2026 Nissan Leaf Is Finally Cool

(Sorry, I had to do it.) The 2026 version is unrecognizable from its predecessor, and it hits US dealers this fall. The 15-year-old hatchback is now more "SUV-like," as Nissan describes it. It has a solid 303-mile range, a Tesla-backed NACS port for Supercharging, dual 14.3-inch displays, and an available panoramic roof. "We have completely reconstructed the values of the next-generation Leaf," says Tase Nobutaka, program design director at Nissan. "We made it simple and clean, yet with a more energetic feeling. We ensured the all-new Leaf has a dynamic shape, testing it time and time again to reach our ambitious aerodynamic targets." It has not one but two charge ports, a unique strategy that gives drivers more options. It has a Level 2 port (J1772) on the driver's side for home charging. A second port on the passenger's side will work at Tesla Superchargers, which are only found in public and charge at a much faster rate. "The combination of J1772 for AC charging and NACS for DC charging provides our customers with access to the largest number of chargers," a Nissan spokesperson tells us. "Because there was not much time between signing Nissan's agreement with [Tesla for] NACS and when Leaf production began, we chose to move forward with dual ports in order to deliver the most abundant charging options possible (within that rather tight timeframe). We will, of course, continue to adjust for future models." The 2026 Leaf is the first Nissan to have sleek, "motorized flush front door handles" and is the first in its class to have a dimmable panoramic roof, Nissan says, though that one will almost certainly require an upgrade. The car comes in a range of "bold color choices" to complete its transformation from an old standby to a fashion-forward option. It's compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, and has four USB-C ports sprinkled throughout. We've been speculating about the death of the Leaf as we know it since 2023, and it's great to see that Nissan revived it instead. The beloved car may have been among the first to popularize EVs, but hasn't kept up with modern design or technology trends. Case in point: It still has an outdated CHAdeMO charge port. But importantly, it's been the only electric car on the market below $30,000. We don't know the price of the new Leaf, but all signs point to it being above $30,000. The goal is to bring it up to modern standards, which includes pricey upgrades like sensors and cameras to enable self-driving assistive software. The new Leaf "represents the best of Nissan EV technology," Nissan says. It'll be hard to upstage the Nissan Ariya, however, which has all the modern technology—even an optional camera feed rear-view mirror. Nissan may have decided that deeper-pocketed customers are more likely to buy an EV, but we'll see how the final price looks in a few months. One nugget in Nissan's announcement hints that a cheaper version is on the way. A smaller battery pack option (52kWh compared to 75kWh) arrives in spring 2026. That's slightly larger than the 40kWh pack on the Leaf today. It will also have less horsepower (175hp compared to 214), giving "EV drivers a choice in the amount of driving range and value they desire," Nissan says.

The latest Hong Kong food news and events 2025

It is once again time for Caprice Bar at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong to refresh their yearly bar menu – this time named Elements. Bar manager Anyss Saintilan has spent months perfecting nine cocktails inspired by fundamental elements and textures found in nature, namely Flower, Cotton, Water, Leaf, Leather, Fire, Feather, Wood, and Air. The menu is presented in an innovative wooden frame containing nine boxes that guests can swivel to reveal tasting notes, and even slide open to interact with the key ingredients. Water is a refreshing Champagne-based cocktail with oyster leaf and elderflower that carries a hint of mango and pineapple, despite containing no fruits whatsoever. Pandan lovers will enjoy the gin-based Leaf, a tropical tall drink with celery, lime, sugar, and a dash of absinthe. The further down the menu, the more spirit-forward the drinks get, such as Air, a white Negroni with cucumber-infused gin, Lillet, and Suze that will feature different fruit notes through the year. Other notable mentions include Wood, containing cognac aged in burned sandalwood that allows the spirit to taste different upon each return to Caprice; and the soft, minty Cotton, which is a lovechild of the Grasshopper and the Ramos Gin Fizz. All cocktails are available at $220, and are the perfect accompaniment to the lovely harbour view from Caprice Bar.

Tesla Isn't Going to Like the All-New Nissan Leaf's Range and Price

The Leaf has made a bold return Nissan has unveiled the 2026 Leaf as a crossover SUV after revamping its design for around 18 months, and Tesla has fresh competition. In addition to implementing dramatic styling changes, the 2026 Leaf offers a streamlined charging experience and improved range, all for an accessible price starting in the mid-$30,000s. The 2026 Leaf is estimated to deliver up to 303 miles per charge and can go from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes via DC fast charging, contributing to the model's ethos of seamless electric vehicle (EV) driving. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:09 Walmart is selling a 'heavy duty' $89 step ladder for $48, and shoppers say it's 'sturdy and secure' Watch More Given their near-equivalent pricing and comparable range, these specs place the 2026 Leaf and Tesla's Model Y neck-and-neck, with the Model Y winning by 54 miles, but costing slightly more, or a lot more with all-wheel drive. A new 75-kWh, liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack paired with a 214-horsepower electric motor powers the front-wheel drive 2026 Leaf, and the model's dual charging ports give drivers more flexibility in where they charge. Nissan will later introduce a 2026 Leaf with a 52-kWh battery pack and 174-horsepower motor. The new Leaf is Nissan's first vehicle with Plug and Charge, allowing drivers to plug into a public charger and immediately begin charging without app or payment card activation. Those apprehensive about purchasing an EV in low-temperature environments can also get peace of mind knowing that the 2026 Leaf's resin-covered battery pack keeps cold air, snow, and slush away. This reimagined EV captures wasted heat from the drive motor and the onboard charger, and repurposes it to help warm the battery to an optimal temperature range. Interior climate control features can significantly lower an EV's range, but the 2026 Leaf's energy-efficient heat pump, standard on SV+ and PLAT+ trims, provides added cold-weather support. How the Leaf's design offers more flair than a Tesla Model Y On the design front, changes are significant, with the Leaf totally transforming its image in the same way that Nissan revamped its Kicks SUV's exterior for the model's 2025 production year. Elements like motorized flush front door handles, concealed rear door handles in the C-pillar, and an optionally illuminated Nissan emblem help form the 2026 Leaf's contemporary look, along with stacked rectangular lighting and an available full-width running lamp. Nissan carried over its Z sports car's katana blade-like roofline molding for a more athletic appearance than the previous Leaf, and wheels measure 18 inches for the Leaf SV+ trim and 19 inches for the Leaf Platinum+. The 2026 Leaf also offers an optional, segment-first dimming panoramic roof that transitions from transparent to nearly opaque at the press of a button, along with ample rear cargo space of 55.5 cu ft behind the second-row seats. The original Leaf only provided 73 miles of range, so the new version's 303-mile range is a significant step up with its Tesla Supercharger compatibility and ability to facilitate seamless public charging via features like Plug and Charge. This new one has the option of a 270-mile battery or a 375-mile battery. So you might need to charge it once a fortnight. The smooth body and flat belly help it slice through the air. Steering wheel paddles adjust the levels of braking regen to add more electrons on the go. After trying a prototype, I am pleased to say Leaf 3.0 drives nicely too. Let's hope there's a sporty Leaf NISMO further down the line because I'm told there's room for a rear e-motor to make it 4WD. For now, though, we applaud Sunderland for giving us a practical electric car we would be proud to own. It just needs a badge that says it's home-grown.
