Akshay Kumar dons killer mask as he waits outside theatre for public review: ‘Pakda jaane wala thaa…'

Akshay Kumar got down on the streets for public review on his latest release, Housefull 5. The Tarun Mansukhani's film saw a positive response upon its release on Friday. On Sunday, Akshay took to Instagram and dropped a video of himself as he went undercover to ask viewers for their honest opinion on the film. The actor wore the killer mask from the murder mystery along with others who waited outside a theatre in Mumbai for public review. Akshay seemingly enjoyed the process and left the venue before being caught by the fans. He even called the experience 'mast.' Sharing the video, Akshay wrote, "Bas yun hi I decided to wear the killer mask and interview people coming out of the Housefull5 show at Bandra today. Pakda jaane wala thaa end mein but bhaag gaya us se pehle. Mast experience. (I decided to wear the killer mask and interview people coming out of the Housefull 5 show at Bandra today, just like that. I almost got caught at the end, but I ran before that. Fun experience.)' In the video, Akshay in a simple shirt and denim pants look with a mask went around asking people for their first-hand reviews. As he asked the public anonymously whether they liked the movie or not, someone described the film as 'sahi hai (it's good)." 'Sexy picture hai,' added another. One more also hailed Akshay's performance in the film and dubbed it a 'superhit' movie.' While none could recognise him or his voice, a woman at the end seemingly realised it was Akshay. As she started recording him, he left the place. Reacting to the video, Chitrangda Singh commented, 'Wowww akki this is crazyy (sic).' 'You are so funny,' added Nargis Fakhri. While Tiger Shroff called it 'crazy', Sonam Bajwa commented saying 'fab.' Housefull 5 is directed by Tarun Mansukhani. It stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chunky Panday, Dino Morea, Sonam Bajwa, and Soundarya Sharma. The film was released on Friday and crossed the ₹ 50 crore mark in just two days at the domestic box office. The Live Mint review of the film read: 'Housefull 5 arrives with the usual bluster and baloney—big stars, bigger sets, and a plot that makes no sense. In an unusual twist, the climax and the revelation of the killer aboard a luxury cruise liner differ depending on which version of director Tarun Mansukhani's slapstick comedy you're watching. But no matter which route you take, the destination remains the same: this film is a colossal waste of time and resources.'

Deepika Padukone out of Kalki 2 movie? Actress faces ‘back-to-back project losses' after becoming mother: Report

Deepika Padukone's request for shorter work hours after becoming a mother is allegedly creating tension on film sets. The makers of Kalki 2 are considering trimming or removing her role, reported on Instagram. The news comes after her exit from Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Her alleged clash with the Animal director was widely reported. 'This could impact her career after back-to-back project losses,' the Instagram page with 2 million followers reported. LiveMint could not independently verify the claim. Kalki 2898 AD enjoyed massive success, minting ₹ 1,042.25 crore worldwide. The movie had national stars like Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. While fans have been excited about its sequel, Kalki 2, reports earlier said that the shoot could be delayed after Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh welcomed their baby daughter, Dua Padukone Singh. According to the Bollywood actress, her daughter is her main focus now and she is in no hurry to return to work. She wants to raise her child herself, like her mother did. Amid the speculation, director Nag Ashwin said Deepika's role was the backbone of Kalki. It would not be possible to make the sequel without her, he added. Meanwhile, fans reacted to the report of Kalki 2 being made without Deepika Padukone. 'This is a fact that new mothers do face problems, especially when they want to have work-life balance! Even the big celebs are struggling who want to have a career as well as be around their growing kids!' wrote one user. Another wondered, 'But without her how the mother part will be played!' 'There must be equality in payment you want to make actress work even after having a too such a big actress,' wrote another while making an apparent reference to the Sandeep Reddy Vanga episode. 'She should get some flexibility. It's very logical. Women enjoy flexibility even in the corporate world. This is just a film industry, and you can stretch on the timelines,' came from another. Deepika Padukone, one of India's top-paid actresses, has often spoken against unequal pay in films. An old interview of hers resurfaced as rumours grew about her exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Spirit. In the interview, Deepika said she had once left a project because the director couldn't pay her fairly even though she liked the script. Though Deepika did not specifically speak about Spirt, the director posted a sharp message online. Sandeep Reddy accused an unnamed actress of disrespect and leaking story details. Reports say Deepika was cast opposite Prabhas and offered ₹ 20 crore, her biggest fee yet. She has now been replaced by Triptii Dimri at a much lower fee.

Do not expect the Nifty 50 to hit a new high again this year, says Trivesh D, COO, Tradejini

Trivesh D, COO Tradejini expects volatility to continue in the near term. In an interview with LiveMint, the expert predicted that the Indian benchmark Nifty50 is not likely to hit a new high again this year. After the recent rally, it is natural for markets to take a breather and consolidate, he noted. Moreover, Trivesh suggests maintaining asset allocation, not going 100% into equity, but if you are sitting on the sidelines, this might be a good time to start allocating gradually. We might continue to see some volatility in the near term. We don't expect the Nifty 50 to hit a new high again this year. After the recent rally, it is natural for markets to take a breather and consolidate. There are still some uncertainties around global tariffs and trade flows. Once we get more clarity on those, the market will likely find better direction. I had to say stay invested. Maintain your asset allocation, don't go 100% into equity, but if you are sitting on the sidelines, this might be a good time to start allocating gradually. There could be ups and downs, but right now, the risk-reward equation looks favourable for long-term investors. Holding cash doesn't usually help, it gives you negligible returns and at times does not even cover inflation. The better question is where to invest, not whether to invest. You want to stay deployed in productive assets. It's always about finding the right vehicle for your money. Short-term events like RBI policy or global headlines may move the needle briefly, but they don't change long-term outcomes. What matters more is how companies are performing, how sectors are growing, and whether businesses are delivering steady earnings growth. That's where the real signals are. We don't think they have really underperformed if you zoom out a bit. Yes, Q1 saw steep corrections; midcaps and smallcaps fell about 22% and 26%, respectively. But since April, we have seen a strong bounce-back, smallcaps are up 28%, midcaps around 23%. So, it looks more like a deep correction followed by recovery, not a structural underperformance. Both have done well recently. Private banks rallied 17% from January lows, and PSU banks surged 25% from their March lows. For me, it's less about choosing between PSBs or private players, it's about valuation. PSU banks still look undervalued, and if their P/E multiples expand, they could outperform. We generally prefer shifting out of overvalued names into stocks that have room to re-rate. Metals are riding strong gusts. China's policy push, a global focus on green energy, and a general increase in demand. These shifts are supportive, and they do present an investment case. But again, it depends on how policy and trade dynamics play out. It is a space to watch closely. Gold seems expensive right now. A lot of the global uncertainty is already priced in. We don't see much room for it to go significantly higher from here unless there is a fresh global crisis. You should not move entirely out of equities. Instead, keep a diversified approach, maybe allocate 5–15% to gold. It is a good hedge during uncertain times, but equities still offer better long-term growth. The idea is balance, not either-or. Do your research before you invest. Don't buy just because someone else told you to. At the end of the day, it's your money and if things go wrong, no one else is taking the hit for you. World Environment Day 2025: India has slew of regulations to protect Blue Planet. Know about them

Today, millions worldwide are observing World Environment Day 2025, highlighting the urgent need for eco-legal action. Hosted by South Korea, the UN event drives home how local laws can combat environmental threats. There are multiple initiatives that have been taken across the world regarding the better protection of the environment. For starters, cities like Jeju, South Korea, now enforce strict bans on disposable plastics. Jeju's 2040 "plastic-free" goal includes deposit systems for cups and mandatory waste sorting. Similar bans are expanding globally, cutting landfill waste. The United States is not behind in this aspect, as US cities are rewriting zoning codes to boost sustainability. Buffalo eliminated parking minimums, prioritising walkability over cars. Indianapolis now mandates pedestrian-friendly designs near transit hubs, reducing emissions, according to Urban Land Magazine. In a report by the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP's Inger Andersen was quoted as saying, 'Ending plastic pollution is possible, but we need systemic change—governments, businesses, and citizens together.' Bivas Chatterjee, Advocate and Special Public Prosecutor, Government of West Bengal, tells LiveMint, "We, as humans, must remember that trees too, have a life. If humans are convicted for taking away lives under sections of the law, why are those, who cut down trees brutally, not tried under similar laws? If trees are cut down or uprooted in areas that are not forests, the accused is simply fined, and no other penalisation is generally imposed." "The existing laws regarding environmental protection in India are age-old and relatively weak, which is why the attack on nature is so brutally conducted in recent years. Stringent laws need to be in place so that people do not get away with harming the environment, which is necessary for our sustenance in the long run." Neil Basu, Advocate, Calcutta High Court, weighed in on the existing laws in the country regarding the proper preservation of the environment. "Protecting the environment is a fundamental right and a collective social responsibility, as environmental justice is social justice. So, let's act now," he told LiveMint. "If we start in terms of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, any person running any establishment which includes a factory and any kind of industry must take due permission from the State Pollution Control Board as well as the Central Pollution Control Board concerned," Basu said. "Section 7 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 prohibits the discharge or emission of environmental pollutants in excess of prescribed standards by any person involved in an industry, operation, or process. This ensures that pollution levels remain within acceptable limits and prevent any environmental damage," he continued. Other laws include the Indian Forest Act, 1927, which empowers the state governments to notify forest areas to oversee the wildlife conservation and preservation, as well as plantation and afforestation. Also, Section 17A of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 prohibits the willful picking, uprooting, damaging, destroying, acquisition, or collection of any specified plant from forest land or other areas notified by the central government.
