Ohio Game Wardens Who Busted CJ Alexander Honored with Pope and Young Award
A pair of Ohio game wardens who cracked one of the biggest poaching cases in state history — the CJ Alexander buck — have been honored for their work by the Pope and Young Club. Isaiah Gifford and Matt Roberts, both wildlife officers with the state's Department of Natural Resources, received P&Y's Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer Award at the club's Arizona convention this month. P&Y gives out the award once every two years to an officer (or in this case, officers) for their outstanding work related to wildlife violations. 'We started [an award] back in 1995 to recognize wildlife biologists for their work, and I started thinking we need to something [similar] for conservation officers,' P&Y conservation chair and retired game warden Doug Clayton tells Outdoor Life. 'You look at all the work these officers do and it's [mostly] behind the scenes. So the general public doesn't see this, and even the hunting community, they know poaching goes on but they don't really know the extent of it.' Gifford and Roberts are the first-ever co-recipients of the award as well as the first Ohioans, according to the agency. Giffords, 26, has worked for the DNR since 2023, while Roberts has more than 20 years with the agency. The two officers were selected for the award because of their roles investigating the now-notorious poaching case involving CJ Alexander. After using a crossbow to poach what would have been Ohio's new No. 1 all-time typical whitetail, Alexander made up an elaborate story to cover up the fact that he committed more than a dozen related crimes, including repeated trespassing. He then shared that fabricated story to promote himself and the deer with multiple media outlets — which included interviews with Outdoor Life and selling his story to at least one other hunting outlet. 'This was an excellent case,' Clayton says. 'A lot of wildlife cases are cut and dry, but then you have these big ones that just spiderweb out — you find one thing that leads to something else, and sometimes you're dealing with multiple jurisdictions or the Feds. A lot of people just don't realize how involved some of these cases are, and what it takes to bring them to fruition.' Gifford and Roberts conducted a careful investigation for a full year. Although Alexander repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and doubled down on his innocence, the two wardens eventually cracked the case wide open by securing his cell phone records. The texts, GPS location data, and other evidence therein revealed Alexander's long history with the buck he nicknamed 'Megatron', along with his true intentions for killing the deer. In Alexander's own words, texted to his fiancé just a few weeks before he poached the 200-plus-inch buck: 'I'm gonna get offered stupid money for this deer head babe …. Like buying house type money … This deer is gonna make us money.' He was sentenced in December to 90 days in jail, along with $43,000 in fines. Of that, $39,696.73 went directly to the Ohio Wildlife Fund to reimburse the state for the loss of such an incredible buck. (Like some states, Ohio calculates a special restitution fee based on total inches of antler of an illegally-taken deer.) Alexander's accomplices, his sister Kristina and his friends Corey and Zachary Haunert, also pleaded guilty and were charged separately. The last recipient of P&Y's Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer Award was Lt. Stacey Lewton of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in 2023. Lewton and the NGPC were instrumental in the Hidden Hills Outfitters bust, which spanned multiple states and involved more than 30 other individuals, including the Bowmars.

One Of The Best Action Movies Of 2024 With A 97% Audience Score Is Streaming Now On Prime Video
Some of 2024's biggest action movies. One of the best movies of 2024 is finally available to stream for free on Amazon Prime Video. It's an animated film, but still ranks as one of the best and best-reviewed action movies that came out last year, netting better Rotten Tomatoes audience scores than big blockbusters like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (pictured left) and Gladiator II (pictured right). Transformers One tells the origin story of sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron, the key leaders in the age-old battle between the Transformers and the nefarious Autobots. On Rotten Tomatoes, Transformers One has an 89% critic score and a 97% 'Popcornmeter' or audience score. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (which I absolutely loved) has a 90% critic score and an 88% audience score. Gladiator II (which I loathed) has a much lower 71% critic score and an 82% audience score. Other big action movies in 2024 included: As you can see, Transformers One ranks higher than any of these with audiences, and near the top with critics. This is with good reason. It's one of the best Transformers movies ever made. Only Bumblebee scored higher with critics (91%) but even that one (which I found very charming) scored just 75% with audiences. The next-best rated Transformers movie is the 1986 animated feature, with a 62% critic score / 88% audience score, followed by 2007's first live-action entry at 57%/85%. None of these even come close to the combined critical and audience praise of Transformers One. If you missed this in theaters and haven't gotten it already on 4K or VOD, give it a shot this week now that it's free with a Prime membership.

The story behind Sean McVay's 'funny' tapes to Davante Adams during Rams' courtship
The Los Angeles Rams offered a geographical advantage in the Davante Adams sweepstakes, but that didn't stop Sean McVay from putting on a unique recruiting pitch to land him. McVay sent Adams several highlights of the star receiver prior to him signing a deal to join the Rams, but with a twist: the head coach added narration over the plays, according to FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer. "I've never heard this one before. Davante Adams, he's overseas, I think in Japan, on vacation. Sean McVay starts sending him narrated clips of Davante Adams," Glazer said on the most recent episode of the "NFL on FOX Podcast." "He's saying things, like certain things, basically there's a certain play where he's showing him this and Sean's calling it out, 'Why are they doing this?' Then, all of a sudden, the DB trips and falls over and Davante breaks one off. Sean's narrating and is basically like, 'Look at how many times we can do this if we're on the Rams.'" McVay continued to charm Adams through several clips, with each narration getting "funnier and funnier," Glazer said. "There was another play where I think [Adams] catches a touchdown to cap off a 99-yard drive," Glazer said. "But Sean says to him, 'But how cold was it out there? Sure, it's a touchdown. You know where it's not cold? Los Angeles. It's not cold.'" When Adams was introduced as a member of the Rams earlier in March, he said that McVay had sent him clips of his own highlights during the free-agent process. "It was kind of Jon Gruden-esque a little bit," Adams told reporters. "And you know how he is with ball, so he's breaking down every single clip. The first one was like seven minutes, and then he sent another one that was like probably another two minutes where he's just going through everything. "I thought he took that job to be on TV for a minute when I was watching it, but, yeah, it just shows how much ball means to him, how much of a priority I was for him." While Glazer didn't say when those specific plays were, there's a good chance the second one he mentioned occurred during his time with the Green Bay Packers. Adams called Lambeau Field home for the first eight years of his career. Despite playing in chilly Green Bay, Adams was one of the game's most productive receivers in his last four years with the team, averaging 108 receptions for 1,328 yards and 12 touchdowns per season over that stretch. Of course, Adams had a future Hall of Famer throwing to him over those years, catching passes from four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. But he'll have another potential future Hall of Fame quarterback in Los Angeles, with the Rams opting to keep Matthew Stafford after risking letting him leave this offseason. Adams shared that the way Stafford helped Calvin Johnson set the record for most receiving yards in a single season left a positive impression on him. "He doesn't make it any harder than it needs to be out there. He's simple. Dating back to when 'Megatron' broke the record, I think he needed like 180-something [yards] and he went and got him like 220-something [yards]," Adams said. "Seeing that and just knowing that in that situation, I don't think they were headed anywhere near the playoffs, but to play in that game, not check out in the last game of the year, know how much that means to 'Megatron' and know how much it means to him to be a part of something like that, it just says the type of person that he is." But as Adams waxed poetic about Stafford, Glazer also believes that McVay's tapes and narration were just as pivotal in getting the wide receiver to sign a two-year, $46 million deal. "When Sean gets enthusiastic about somebody, it's hard not to get the same enthusiasm back. Like, this dude is courting you, there's a good chance you're going to say, 'OK, I'm in. I want him as my prom date.'" Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Davante Adams: Sean McVay's recruitment was "aggressive" in all the right ways
Davante Adams' first foray into free agency didn't last long, as he agreed to terms with the Rams over the weekend after being released by the Jets. Introduced to the Los Angeles media on Thursday, Adams said in his press conference that while multiple teams showed interest, Rams head coach Sean McVay led an aggressive recruitment — despite Adams being in Japan. 'I'll say aggressive, but in all the right ways, though,' Adams said, via transcript from the team. 'He sent me a couple highlight tapes of myself narrating. It was kind of Jon Gruden-esque a little bit. You know how he is with ball so he's breaking down every single clip. The first one was like seven minutes and then he sent another one that was probably another two minutes where he's just going through everything and talking about it. I thought he took that job to be on TV for a minute when I was watching it. 'It just shows how much ball means to him and how much of a priority I was for him and the rest of the guys here because it's not just him making those decisions. When you have that from a coach, you're on the free market and you don't see it from anybody else to that level, it means a lot. It felt like I got ganged up a little bit but as long as I'm here, it doesn't matter.' Adams added that McVay once told him years ago that it would be nice at some point in Adams' career to team up. 'At that point, you're on a different team so you're like, 'Yeah, it'd be cool one day,'' Adams said. 'But to have it be a real thing now and him to have the opportunity to make sure that it didn't slip away because he certainly made sure it did not slip away, that was something that drew me kind of even closer to the Rams just knowing how much I was wanted. 'Having different players reach out too was another thing that meant a lot to me. It's a good feeling just being wanted and knowing what you still can contribute and bring to the game. It's always good when the other side of the organization views you the same way as you view yourself.' Quarterback Matthew Stafford was one such player and Adams is excited to play with the person who was throwing to Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson in the receiver's record-breaking season. 'He doesn't make it any harder than it needs to be out there. He's simple,' Adams said. 'Dating back to when 'Megatron' broke the record, I think he needed like 180- something [yards] and he went and got him like 220-something [yards]. … Playing each other over the years and crossing paths a few times, I gathered that he was a pretty nice, straightforward guy. You never hear anything bad in the media or anything like that. Coming out here and getting a chance to meet with him and talk to him a little bit today just kind of solidified it.' While Adams played only 14 games last year, he still was able to eclipse 1,000 yards for the fifth consecutive season. In three games with the Raiders and 11 games with the Jets, Adams caught 85 passes for 1,063 yards with eight TDs.

US F-35 slams into runway & explodes (VIDEO)
An F-35 fighter jet crashed at Eielson Air Force Base near Fairbanks, Alaska, around 1 pm on Tuesday, with authorities reporting that the incident caused 'significant damage' to the aircraft. However, a video circulating online suggests the jet was completely destroyed as it dropped from the sky and slammed into the runway. The pilot was unharmed and was transported to Bassett Army Hospital for evaluation. The crash occurred within the base's perimeter, and emergency services, including ambulances and fire trucks, responded quickly. The affected area on the runway has been secured, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. A dramatic video, apparently filmed by base personnel and leaked online, shows the jet plummeting from the sky while the pilot safely descends by parachute. BREAKING: 🇺🇲 F-35 fighter jet crashes at Alaska's Eielson Air Force Base — Megatron (@Megatron_ron) January 29, 2025 'Our people are our most important resource, and we are committed to ensuring their safety and security,' said Col. Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing. READ MORE: US 'loses' F-35 stealth fighter The Air Force has launched a thorough investigation into the crash. 'It's still under investigation, so they're trying to confirm all the details,' Eielson spokesperson Staff Sgt. Kimberly Touchet told the Associated Press. Eielson Air Force Base, located approximately 25 miles south of Fairbanks, was selected in 2016 to host 54 F-35s, leading to a significant expansion of the facility. The base's strategic location allows fighter jets to reach anywhere in the northern hemisphere in a single sortie. This incident follows other F-35 incidents in recent years, including a crash in May 2024 during a flight from Texas to California, and an October 2023 incident where a pilot ejected unnecessarily, leaving the aircraft to fly unmanned before crashing in South Carolina.
