'Priority is to replace Nunez' - fans on Reds' next move after Wirtz arrives
We asked for your views on who Liverpool should focus on next after the club record signing of Florian Wirtz, with Milos Kerkez expected to follow in a matter of days after a deal was agreed with Bournemouth. Here are some of your comments:Marwan: The next priority is to replace Darwin Nunez with a world-class striker who can play on the same level as Mohamed Salah and Wirtz, and to find who can succeed Jarell Quansah as a third-choice central After we sign Kerkez, we need to focus on outgoings before we sign anyone else. Nunez is the obvious outgoing. I think Quansah, Harvey Elliott and one of either Andy Robertson or Kostas Tsimikas will go. Once that's done, we should go for a new centre-back and forward - and ideally, one of them should be another homegrown The focus should be on securing a new number nine. I don't think we will go for Alexander Isak, but one of Julian Alvarez or Hugo Ekitike would do for me! Someone will want Nunez, won't they?Marc: There seems to be a lot of speculation around Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa, so it looks like we need another winger. Priorities are another centre-back - or maybe two, depending on departures - a new centre-forward and another We didn't do too badly last year, so why would we want to change so many of the players? We could end up being worse, as there's no guarantee they would gel.

Florian Wirtz seals Liverpool move from Bayer Leverkusen in club record £116m deal
Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The German will cost a club record £100m and his price could rise with add-ons to £116m, which would make him the most expensive British transfer. Leverkusen had wanted €150m (£127.6m) for the 22-year-old, who also attracted interest from Bayern Munich, but weeks of talks brought down the price. Wirtz, an attacking midfielder, scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists in the past season in 45 club appearances. Advertisement Wirtz, who has played 31 times for Germany, succeeds Darwin Núñez as Liverpool's record signing. Núñez arrived from Benfica in June 2022 in an £85m deal but the forward is for sale after an underwhelming spell. Liverpool have also bought Jeremie Frimpong, a right-back, from Leverkusen for £29.5m and have agreed a £40m deal to buy the left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Kerkez is due for a medical next week with a view to signing a five-year deal and Liverpool are also keen on the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi. In a further part of the squad renewal the goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will complete his move to Anfield from Valencia in a £29m deal agreed last summer. Liverpool are in talks with Leverkusen over selling the England Under-21 defender to the Bundesliga club.

Liverpool break club record spend to sign Florian Wirtz
Florian Wirtz has joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for a club record £100m. The German has signed a five-year contract after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms. Wirtz's fee could rise to a British record of £116m if Liverpool enjoy sustained success during his first five years at Anfield. The most expensive signing ever made by a Premier League club was when Chelsea bought Moises Caicedo for £115m in 2023. Wirtz will replace Darwin Nunez as Liverpool's biggest ever buy. He also attracted attention from Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid but his preference was to go to Liverpool after he was impressed in conversations with them. Wirtz becomes Liverpool's second signing of the summer from Leverkusen after Jeremie Frimpong joined for £29.4m while Jarell Quansah could join the 2024 Bundesliga champions. Liverpool are also closing in on a third buy with Milos Kerkez potentially arriving from Bournemouth.

Liverpool agree £40m fee for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez
Liverpool are set to take their summer spending to £185million after agreeing a £40m fee for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. The move has been touted for some time, with the Cherries holding out for £45m, but the PA news agency understands a compromise has been reached which will see the defender make the move to Anfield. Kerkez, 21, is viewed as the long-term successor to Andy Robertson. The Scotland international, who is in the final year of his contract, is a target for Atletico Madrid but Liverpool will not force him out the door. . Hungary international Kerkez will be the third signing of the close season, with Jeremie Frimpong already on board and his Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Florian Wirtz finalising the details of a potential British record £116m deal after flying into Merseyside for a medical on Thursday. With Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Marmadasvili set to join the squad when they reconvene next month, with a deal having been done with Valencia 12 months ago, head coach Arne Slot will have £215m of new talent available for the defence of their Premier League title. And the incomings may not be finished there as, with Leverkusen interested in 22-year-old fourth-choice centre-back Jarell Quansah in a £34m deal entirely separate to the one sending Wirtz in the opposite direction, Liverpool will be on the look-out for another central defender. Crystal Palace's England international Marc Guehi, who has a year left on his contract, is a player the club have been interested in but there will be other contenders for his signature.
