Carl Pei roasts Sennheiser's design days before Nothing unveils its first high-end headphones

In a now-deleted post, Sennheiser's official Reddit account has allegedly made fun of the upcoming Nothing Headphone (1). Now, Carl Pei is returning the favor:Nothing's CEO and co-founder is pretty straightforward about Sennheiser design and says its headphones "look like PC cooling fans". Then, to keep it friendly, Carl Pei says that he has used his Sennheiser HD650 headphones for ten is the perfect time for such social media provocations, since the Headphone (1) – Nothing's debut on the high-end headphone arena – is nearing: the premiere date is set for July 1. That's when the Nothing Phone (3) is also expected to drop with its (almost) flagship-grade Headphone (1) will reportedly be available in just two color options (black and white) and these could be priced around €300 (or approximately $320). Such a price clearly positions them in the premium audio segment, but I'm eager to know more about their drivers and specs. I have a couple of headphones that "look like PC cooling fans" at home – two pairs of Sennheiser headphones – and I'm extremely satisfied with what those are able to achieve (when hooked to a proper headphone amp). Meanwhile, there are some leaked regulatory listings of the Headphone (1). Spotted on certification sites in Taiwan, the UAE, Finland, and Malaysia, the headphones carry the model number B170 and appear ready for global release. The design includes black oval earcups, a rectangular frame, and a transparent, cassette tape-style accent, continuing Nothing's retro-tech aesthetic. Functionally, the headphones appear to include a toggle switch (likely for ANC or power), a mic, USB-C port, and a 3.5mm jack. Accessory cables are also expected in the box. Battery and charging details from the EU certification reveal a 520mAh capacity and 5W charging support. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! The confirmation came via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by co-founder Akis Evangelidis, who stated, 'Headphone (1) will be launched in India at the same time as global.' Headphone (1) will be launched in India at the same time as global — Akis Evangelidis (@AkisEvangelidis) June 20, 2025 For the uninitiated, the Nothing Headphone 1 will debut at the company's upcoming 'Come to Play' event, which will also mark the launch of its next flagship smartphone, the Nothing Phone 3. Nothing 'Come to Play' event: Details Date: July 1 Time: 10:30 pm (IST) Venue: London, UK Product announcements: Nothing Phone 3, Headphone 1 Nothing Headphone 1: Expected design According to a report by 9To5Google, images of the upcoming Nothing Headphone 1 have surfaced online, suggesting that the headphones will feature the brand's signature transparent aesthetic. The ear cups appear squarish with rounded corners—somewhat reminiscent of the Apple AirPods Max—while a circular transparent panel on top gives it the distinctive Nothing design. The headband seems to include top cushioning for comfort and a hinged design that allows the cups to fold flat. According to the report, the right ear cup houses two physical control buttons, while the left one bears 'Sound by KEF' branding, confirming Nothing's previously announced partnership with British audio company KEF. The alleged Nothing Headphone 1 design has sparked mixed reactions online—including from competing brands. On Reddit, the official account of the German audio brand Sennheiser commented on the design, stating: 'The only way we'd make a design like that is if we were bought out again and had the best salespeople. Even then..' In response, Nothing CEO Carl Pei took to X to fire back with a tongue-in-cheek reply: 'Says the company whose headphones look like PC cooling fans. I know because I've used my HD 650 for 10 years.' Says the company whose headphones look like PC cooling fans I know because I've used my HD 650 for 10 years ???? — Carl Pei (@getpeid) June 21, 2025

Nothing Headphone 1 Quirky Design Leaked And People Are Now Confused

Last Updated: Nothing Headphone 1 is launching with the Phone 3 in July and the new product leaks have got mixed views from people. Nothing Phone 3 is launching early next month and we will also see the first Nothing Headphone 1 model from the brand. The new product will be coming to India on the same day as the global launch, and now we have got our first unofficial teaser of the over-the-ear headphones. And yes, it has got people confused. Nothing is known for its quirky, transparent design but it seems the Headphone 1 is taking those levels into a weird category. The leaks have been spotted on X via multiple sources, and the design of the Headphone 1 does carry the transparent element. However, as you can see here, the earcups have a cassette-like layout and a square-ish module which houses the ear cups. Both the Phone 3 and Headphone 1 will be part of a grand event in London on July 1, and we expect these devices to be made available in the Indian market. Nothing Headphone 1 sounds like a weird name but goes in tandem with all the other products. Don't forget the Ear 1 TWS earbuds that introduced the brand in the market a few years back. And like the other products, we expect Nothing to adopt the popular transparent design with premium materials. Nothing has emphasised its goal to simplify button interactions and enhance overall usability, aiming to create a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. The company also promises top-tier sound quality at a more accessible price point compared to the 'really expensive" AirPods Max. Earlier reports suggest all these upgrades and the focus of the product could put the Headphone 1 in the market priced at $299 (Rs 25,000 approx) where you have the Sony WH-1000X series, Bose and more brands. With the launch date getting closer, we are eager to hear more about the Headphone 1 and how Nothing plans to walk the talk. First Published: June 23, 2025, 08:10 IST

‘Hatke' vibes: Nothing Headphone 1 allegedly leaks ahead of July 1 launch

Nothing recently confirmed that it was going to launch its first-ever pair of headphones, called the Nothing Headphone 1, on July 1, alongside the company's flagship, the Nothing Phone 3. But now, just days before the launch, alleged images of the headphone pair in two different colourways, white and black, have surfaced online. Courtesy of an Instagram account that goes by the name @nothing_fan_blog, the account posted five images of the Nothing Headphone 1. Alleged image of the Nothing Headphone 1 in black. The first appears to be in white, while the second colour is black. If we think about it, this goes with what the brand has launched so far, including its earbuds, wherein it offered black and white variants. The headphones retain Nothing's signature transparent aesthetic. If there's one thing that's been constant with Nothing's products, including its phones or its audio gear, it has to be the transparent aesthetic, and this may remain the same with the Nothing Headphone 1. They appear to have a truly distinct aesthetic, which you will mostly not find on any other pair of headphones out in the open, and they will truly stand out when you wear them. A Closer Look As for the construction, the headphones appear to have a two-part construction; the base appears to be made out of metal while the top part appears to be constructed out of plastic. And if you have a closer look, you will spot buttons on the side of the headphones as well, and two are visible. Further, we also see a wire connected in the last image, but it's unclear if it's going to be a 3.5 mm jack or if it's a USB-C port. But from the construction of the wire, we can assume it's likely going to be a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which will allow for wired connectivity to your favourite output device. It currently isn't clear how much the Nothing Headphone 1 would cost, but so far, reports have suggested they could be priced around 299 Euros. MOBILE FINDER: iPhone 16 LATEST Price And More

Nothing Headphone 1 images leak, showing a retro-futuristic cassette-inspired look

TL;DR Renders and real-world images of the apparent Nothing Headphone 1 have appeared online. The pictures show a pair of headphones with a transparent design and a curious shape. Nothing is gearing up to launch its first pair of over-ear headphones on July 1, called the Nothing Headphone 1. The company has kept this design firmly under wraps, but it looks like two sources have given us our first look. The Equal Leaks Telegram account posted three apparent Nothing Headphone 1 renders today. These images show a rather peculiar pair of headphones, featuring a two-step design of sorts. The pictures show a rectangular-shaped base with rounded corners. Meanwhile, a transparent oval island atop the base connects to the headband. This island also seems reminiscent of a cassette tape. Want a real-world look at the new headphones? Well, the Nothing Fan Club Instagram account has just posted five images purportedly showing the Nothing Headphone 1. You can view these pictures below. These real-world images also feature 'sound by KEF' on one of the headphones. KEF is an audio brand that specializes in speakers but also dabbles in headphones. In fact, the two companies actually announced a partnership last month, while also confirming that several 'acoustically co-developed products' were in the pipeline. It seems like the Headphone 1 could be the first product as part of this tie-up, then. We'd caution you to take these leaks with a major helping of salt, though, as we're not familiar with these sources at all. Nevertheless, if this design is confirmed, the Nothing Headphone 1 would certainly stand out from other headphones on the market. This isn't the only leak we've seen regarding Nothing's headphones. A trusted outlet reported earlier this week that the Nothing Headphone 1 will cost $309 in the US, €299 in Europe, and £299 in the UK. Got a tip? Talk to us!
