CDPR boss tells The Witcher 4 hopefuls to "keep calm" as Summer Game Fest hype builds: "Remember that next week we are launching Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red is pouring cold water on the idea that it might surprise everyone with new The Witcher 4 footage during Summer Game Fest 2025. This week, Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley took to Twitter to reveal a roster of 60+ partners supporting the 2025 event, and people were quick to spot CDPR among them, prompting a fair bit of speculation in the comments that The Witcher 4 might make an appearance. And while CDPR co-CEO Michał Nowakowski doesn't mention The Witcher 4 specifically and thus doesn't completely rule out the idea, he does strongly suggest in a quote tweet that the imminent release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 will be the star of the show on CDPR's side. "I see a bit of creative speculation in the comments section :)," says Nowakowski. "Please remember that next week we are launching Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2. So keep calm, etc ;)" As someone who shamefully, time and time again gets worked up against my best judgment about apparent teases, only to inevitably be disappointed when nothing happens, I think it's admirable that Nowakowski is stamping out that particular fire before it gets out of hand. With The Witcher 4 having entered full-scale production back, it's not unreasonable to expect a new trailer sometime in the near-ish future, but sadly it seems this year's Summer Game Fest will not be that day. Or, maybe, Nowakowski sent that tweet precisely because he wants the new trailer to be a surp— Jordan, you're doing it again, you old fool. Asked about Cyberpunk 2 release date, CDPR boss reiterates "our journey from the pre-production to the final release takes 4 to 5 years on average" but "each project is unique."

Cyberpunk 2 release date narrowed down as production ramps up
CD Projekt has confirmed pre-production is underway on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which they've given a new name. We've known developer CD Projekt has been working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 for a while now, as one of several projects planned by the developer after The Witcher 4. The sequel to the sci-fi role-player has previously been referred to as Project Orion, but the studio provided a significant update on the title (quite literally) in its latest Q1 2025 earnings call. In the report, CD Projekt confirmed development on Project Orion has advanced from the conceptual stage to the pre-production phase. Also, the studio referred to the sequel as 'Cyberpunk 2' for the first time. While it's unclear if this is the final name or just a placeholder, it's a sign that development is progressing well on the sequel In the past, CD Projekt has used subtitles when it comes to naming sequels in The Witcher series, like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so it's possible Cyberpunk 2 will have some kind of additional name bolted on when it is revealed. Don't expect it to be shown anytime soon though. During a Q&A segment, CD Projekt's co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, was asked when we can expect Cyberpunk 2 to come out, now it's entered the pre-production phase, and if it will match The Witcher 4's timeline, which entered the same stage in 2022 and is expected to launch in 2027. 'Our journey from the pre-production to the final release takes four to five years on average,' Nowakowski replied. 'Having said that, keep in mind that each project is unique and there are many variables which influence the final outcome, so I will not lead you into specific years. But this is pretty much how it looks like.' If CD Projekt sticks to this timeframe, Cyberpunk 2 will likely not be released until late 2029 or 2030, at the earliest. That's a whole decade after the original game came out on December 10, 2020, when it caught a lot of negative attention for its bug-ridden state. Development on Cyberpunk 2 might be a smoother process, however, considering CD Projekt recently opened a new studio in Boston, Massachusetts primarily for the sequel. The Witcher 4's development, meanwhile, is being done at its main offices in Warsaw, Poland. More Trending Elsewhere, the studio announced Cyberpunk 2077 expansion Phantom Liberty has surpassed 10 million copies sold, an increase of two million from November last year. CD Projekt is hoping for an extra wave of sales with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Switch 2 next month. CD Projekt has several other projects in the works beyond The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, including a new IP codenamed Project Hadar and a new game set in the Witcher universe codenamed Project Sirius. However, there's no indication of when these could come out. The next new release from the company is likely to be the remake of The Witcher 1, although that's being made by a third party studio and has no confirmed release year. The Witcher 4 will be the next game from CD Projekt Red, which will feature Geralt of Rivia's adoptive daughter, Ciri, as the protagonist. Suspect charged in double homicide after couple found dead in their home: Officials
A suspect has been charged with murder in the "senseless and violent" killing of two men after allegedly breaking into the couple's home in upstate New York, officials announced on Friday. Police discovered Michael "Mickey" Harmon, 40, and Jordan Celotto, 37, dead in the basement of their Buffalo home on Tuesday, officials said. Bryan Chiclana, 34, who police said was also in the home at the time of the discovery, has since been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder, officials said. MORE: Text messages shed light on timeline of Idaho college killings: Court documents The suspect allegedly broke into the couple's home through a basement window early Tuesday morning and "intentionally struck both victims in their heads with a blunt object," Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane said during a press briefing on Friday. Both victims died as a result of the blunt force trauma to their heads, he said. "The nature of these crimes is truly horrific," Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon said during Friday's press briefing. "The senseless and violent nature of them is something that we cannot and will not stand for here in the city of Buffalo." Police have evidence that Chiclana was in the area of the couple's home, located in the Allentown neighborhood, on Tuesday morning and had attempted or successfully broken into at least three residences, according to Buffalo Police Chief of Detectives Craig Macy. The suspect also tried to get into multiple vehicles, he said. The deaths were discovered later Tuesday afternoon. A friend who went to the house after one of the victims didn't show up to work that day spotted the suspect with a knife and called police, authorities said. The suspect began cutting himself once officers responded to the scene and he was transported to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to his neck, police said. He remained hospitalized under police supervision before being discharged earlier Friday, officials said. Chiclana was immediately booked and then arraigned on Friday. He pleaded not guilty to all counts and was remanded without bail, online court records show. ABC News has reached out to his attorney for comment. MORE: Missing woman found dead in suitcase, ex-boyfriend in custody Harmon and Celotto were well-known and well-loved members of the Buffalo LGBTQ+ community, Scanlon said. There is no evidence that the suspect knew the victims or that this was a hate crime, he said. "We want to make it clear that this was an isolated, non-targeted attack," the mayor said. "It was not rooted in a hate crime." Fillmore District Council member Mitch Nowakowski, who was friends with the victims, said Harmon and Celotto had been partners for "quite some time." "Why this has really sparked such an outpour is not only because of the love for Mickey and Jordan, is it's an example of an incident that is everyone's worst nightmare -- that someone breaks into your home and murders you," Nowakowski said during Friday's briefing. "And that is what people are really reeling with, because it's everyone's worst trauma and fear." "Everybody wants to see justice for Mickey and Jordan," he added. Nowakowski remembered the two as artists who worked to improve the Allentown community through their work and activism. "I refuse to allow Mickey and Jordan's memory to be attached to these heinous crimes," he said during emotional remarks at a press briefing earlier this week. "I want everybody to know that these people were artists, were people of the Allentown community who made it better, who made things happen, who worked with me ever since I got into office." "When you look and see Allentown -- its vibrancy, its festivals, its artwork -- think of them, because that is who they are," he said.
