The two-week event runs from 28 May until 11 June at PlayStation Direct, the official online storefront for everything from consoles and accessories to games and more. PlayStation's annual celebration of all things play includes a mega sale on PS5 consoles, accessories and games on PlayStation Direct, PlayStation Store and retailers such as Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy. There's no question about the biggest deals in Days of Play 2025. The uber-premium (but also uber-expensive) PS5 Pro just got its first-ever price cut. The most powerful PlayStation ever made has been discounted by $50, dropping the top-tier console from an eyewatering $699 to a slightly less stinging $649. Even with this deal, it's far from cheap, but it's called PS5 Pro for a reason. Sony opens an official PS5 rental service in the UK

We're over four years into the current generation of consoles (which is probably past the halfway point) and while Sony is still selling tons of PlayStation 5 units, the price of the system means it remains out of reach for many. To help address that, Sony has teamed up with a leasing company called Raylo to offer a PS5 rental service in the UK via the country's PlayStation Direct website. Leases for the PS5 Digital Edition, the version with a disc drive and the PS5 Pro are available on 12-, 24- or 36-month agreements or a rolling monthly contract. The longer a term you lock in, the lower the monthly price will be. For instance, a 36-month agreement for a PS5 Digital Edition costs £11 (around $14) per month. A rolling contract for the PS5 Pro, however, will run you a whopping £35.59 (nearly $46) per month. There are also leasing options available for the PlayStation Portal and the PS VR2 headset, which just got a price cut. As The Standard points out, there's a lifetime warranty on each device. Raylo won't force customers to pay extra if they return one at the end of a lease with minor dents, scratches or discoloration (though there will be penalties for "significant damage"). You can cancel at any point, but you'll need to pay a fee if you change your mind before 18 months have passed, though there is a 14-day grace period. While there are some benefits to leasing, particularly for those who want to play a PS5 but can't afford the initial cost of buying one upfront, there are drawbacks. Depending on the lease term and length of the plan, renting a PS5 can cost more than buying one. There are options to buy a device at the end of a lease, or to continue renting or upgrade (a three-year contract would take you up around the time the PS6 is rumored to arrive in 2028). Otherwise, you won't own the thing you've been paying for over the last several months. On the other hand, Xbox has offered monthly payment plans for the Xbox Series X/S from the outset with Game Pass Ultimate included. And yes, you do get to keep that console at the end of the financing period.

PlayStation Network Outage Persists, Sony Says
The PlayStation Network, which users of the Sony PlayStation platform rely on to play games, download content and access apps, fluttered in and out of service on Saturday but remained down for at least some users more than 20 hours after widespread problems with the network were first reported. 'You might have difficulty launching games, apps or network features,' PlayStation said on its website, adding that the problems began at 7 p.m. on Friday. The company did not explain the cause of the outage and did not immediately respond to an email seeking more information. The issues affected users of PlayStation's most popular offerings, including its console and web products. Account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct were among the impacted services, the company said. PlayStation creates software and hardware, including hugely popular gaming consoles. Users play video games and run apps like Netflix, Spotify and YouTube through the PlayStation Network. On social media, some users reported that they were able to use their PlayStation on Saturday afternoon, but many were still experiencing issues, and PlayStation had not changed the messaging on its website. By 5 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, there were indications that PlayStation was working for some users in Europe, but the company provided no information to suggest the issue had been resolved. Some users reported that they were not able to play offline games, a testament to how severe the server problems were, as offline games usually do not face the same issues that online games will sometimes experience. As users complained on social media, other brands fired off trolling messages. 'Calling all gamers: this play station still works,' Krispy Kreme posted on X. Krispy Kreme offered free glazed doughnuts for two hours on Saturday 'because sweet rewards don't need a server.' 'bet y'all want physical copies now,' GameStop, the struggling video game retail chain, said on X.
