Bill Maher mocks Dems for trying to find ‘their Joe Rogan,' suggests figuring out how they lost him

'Real Time' host Bill Maher mocked the Democratic Party's attempt to find 'their Joe Rogan,' pointing out the irony that the podcaster had leaned left until he became disillusioned with the party. The host explained, 'One idea that's getting a lot of attention is the Dems need to find their Joe Rogan, a liberal Joe Rogan.' Maher argued that rather than 'conjuring up a new Joe Rogan,' Democrats should be asking themselves how they lost him in the first place. Advertisement Rogan previously endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., in the 2020 election. It wasn't until 2024 that Rogan publicly endorsed President Donald Trump. The 'Real Time' host lampooned the idea that the real reason why former Vice President Kamala Harris lost the 2024 election is because 'Republicans have a podcast.' 'Okay, maybe. Or, you could consider this,' Maher jeered. 'Instead of conjuring up a new Joe Rogan, ask yourself why you lost the old one, because he used to be on your side.' In 2024, regarding the Democratic desire to find its own Rogan, the podcaster said, 'They had me.' 'I was on their side,' he added. Advertisement Maher noted that he's watched the political evolution of both Rogan and Musk and their party affiliations didn't switch 'overnight.' Youtube/Real Time with Bill Maher Maher compared Rogan's political transformation to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was also a liberal who ended up being 'driven to the other camp by bad attitudes and bad ideas.' Maher noted that he's watched the political evolution of both Rogan and Musk and their party affiliations didn't switch 'overnight.' Maher referenced a 2022 post on then-Twitter from Elon Musk in which he shared a chart depicting his feeling that the Democratic Party had moved too far to the left for him, rather than his ideology moving to the right. Advertisement Rogan previously endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., in the 2020 election. Rogan said that Democrats have moved so far that it 'left a basically liberal centrist like him — now labeled a conservative,' adding that he related to Musk's post. Maher also highlighted attempts by the left to cancel Rogan and Musk as a key reason they abandoned the party. Advertisement 'They tried real hard to cancel Rogan a few years ago — and when Elon hosted 'Saturday Night Live' in 2021, well before he was a Trumper — some of the cast gave him the cold shoulder for the sin of being rich,' he recalled. 'You think people don't remember when you do this s— to them?' The late-night host asserted that while he's never left the party, Democrats need to work hard to get 'all the guys in America like Joe and Elon' back on their side, but assured them that it's still possible.

Bill Maher explains how Trump and Musk went from ‘Brangelina' to ‘Godzilla vs. King Kong'

The fiery feud between President Trump and Elon Musk is the most exciting public breakup since the days of Brangelina, according to Bill Maher. The late-night comedian compared the public warfare and vitriol to that of 'Godzilla vs. King Kong if Godzilla was on ketamine and King Kong had a combover.' The big beautiful break-up is even more shocking because Trump and Musk were 'so close,' like celebrity couples Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie, and Ben Affleck and Jen Lopez, whose seemingly strong but ultimately whirlwind romances gripped tabloids for decades. Advertisement 3 Bill Maher compared President Trump to King Kong if he 'had a combover.' AFP via Getty Images 'They had their own couple name: E-lump,' Maher said. But like the actor pairings, the Musk and Trump demise was a long time coming, he continued. Advertisement 'I can't really think of anything other than the Trump-Elon [fight],' Maher said in his opening monologue Frday for HBO's 'Real Time.' The talk host did a brief rundown of the pair's political breakdown, pinpointing the potential beginning of the end to Trump's meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office last week when Musk showed up sporting a black eye. 3 The feud started when Elon Musk declined Trump's offer to borrow makeup, according to Maher. Getty Images The President claimed he offered makeup to the former Department of Government Efficiency head, but was turned down, which he found 'interesting.' Advertisement 'Yeah, weird, Elon, what sort of man turns down makeup?' Maher chided. The feud slowly simmered as the pair lobbed further accusations against one another, including Musk claiming Trump's tariffs would cause a recession and the President responding that no one wants to buy Tesla's electric vehicles — but 's–t got real' when Musk claimed he was the reason Trump won the election. 3 Trump and Musk had their own couple name, Maher aid: 'E-lump.' MAX 'And Trump said, 'Well, you know what Mars is a s–thole planet.' And Musk said, 'Oh my god, you are not the same man I used to heil,'' Maher said. Advertisement The fighting has only grown worse in recent days, with Musk shockingly claiming on X that Trump's involvement in the Epstein files is the reason they haven't been released. Musk has since deleted the X post. Trump, on the other hand, has tried to play it cool, saying he hasn't given much thought to his former 'First Buddy.' 'The stakes are so high because the winner faces Blake Lively,' Maher joked, referencing the recent public downfall of the actress's previously beloved image. Any good feeling between the two men is likely gone after Musk stepped up his criticism of the Trump-backed 'Big, Beautiful Bill' — and then called for the impeachment of the president and a new political party to challenge the GOP.

Bill Maher Jokes the Musk-Trump Feud Is Like if ‘Godzilla Was on Ketamine and King Kong Had a Combover'

Bill Maher vowed that he wouldn't 'pretend I can really think about anything other than the Trump-Elon thing' during his monologue on Friday's 'Real Time.' He was referring of course to the very bitter (and weird) public fight between Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Maher compared the matter to ''Godzilla vs. King Kong'… if Godzilla was on ketamine and King Kong had a combover.' 'Man, these guys were so close, it was like Brangelina or benniffer,' Maher continued, joking that Trump and Musk also had their own couple name, 'Elump.' 'What happened… this has been brewing for a while, okay, people, the first sign was last week at Elon's little going away party. Remember that? And Elon showed up with a black eye…. he said it was because he was roughhousing with his kid and the kid clocked him. And yeah, I believe that,' Maher continued. 'And so Trump said, 'I offered him a little makeup… and he turned it down.' 'And then Trump said, 'which was interesting.' Yeah, weird. Elon, what sort of man turns down makeup?' Maher added, at which point he caught his audience up on the blow by blow. This included how Musk called Trump's 'big beautiful bill' a 'disgusting abomination,' how Trump said Musk has 'Trump derangement syndrome,' and how Musk said Trump's tariffs will cause a recession. Maher also amusingly flubbed the last bit, saying 'erection' to laughter from the audience before correcting to 'recession.' Maher also reminded viewers how Trump claimed Musk was only mad 'because I took away the mandate for his electric vehicles, which nobody really wants anyway,' and how Musk angrily declared Trump wouldn't even be president without his help. 'And then the s— got real. And Trump said, 'Well, you know what, Mars is, a s—hole planet,' Maher joked. Maher then noted how Musk has even claimed Trump is somehow implicated in the Epstein files and is actively covering it up, adding, 'now this is just a war that is going back and forth and back and forth, and the stakes are so high because the winner faces Blake Lively.' 'That's where we are with this. The latest update is tomorrow. Apparently, Elon is going to be coming by to the White House to pick up his CDs and the mixtape they made together… But it looks like it may go from a war of words to a you know, other stuff, because Trump is now saying he might cancel Elon subsidies and Elon's contracts. Cool. So I guess in the end, Elon did save the taxpayer money,' Maher quipped. 'You Wussed Out': David Mamet Reveals Trump's 20-Minute Call After He Committed A MAGA Sin

Pulitzer Prize-winning screenwriter David Mamet has recalled once receiving a lengthy phone call from Donald Trump after he dared not to go all in on the then-former president's 2020 election conspiracy theories. Trump loyalist Mamet, appearing on Bill Maher's 'Club Random Podcast' this week, remembered being 'kind of iffy' about whether the election had been stolen from Trump during an appearance on Maher's HBO show, 'Real Time.' At 8 a.m. the following day, the Hollywood veteran said he received a call from Trump who told him: 'I saw you on Bill Maher yesterday, you were great. But you wussed out on the question of the stolen election.' Trump then 'talked to me for like 20 minutes about how the election was stolen,' Mamet told Maher. 'But it wasn't,' Maher reminded him. Mamet, a yearslong vocal critic of progressive causes who has called former President Barack Obama a 'tyrant' and described diversity, equity and inclusion efforts as 'garbage,' responded: 'Well, I think it was.' Maher noted how the claim that the election was rigged for now-former President Joe Biden has fallen flat in dozens of court cases, been dismissed by Trump's own commissioners and analysts have described the 2020 vote as 'the most fair, honest election we've ever had.' Mamet argued Trump would have won by a majority had various issues not been suppressed. 'Oh, please. That's so ridiculous,' said Maher, who doubted they would have swung the result.
