iOS 18.5 Beta 2 Rolls Out: What It Means for iPhone 16 Users

Apple is inching closer to wrapping up its iOS 18.5 beta phase as it prepares for the much-anticipated iOS 19 release later this year. The iOS 18.5 beta has now entered its second phase, signalling that the final version for the public isn't far off. Earlier this month, we explored the features in the iOS 18.5 beta 1 update, and now, with beta 2 out, it feels like the stage is being set for a big reveal at the WWDC 2025 keynote in June. iOS 18.5 Beta 2 Update: What's New? The first beta of iOS 18.5 introduced a few notable tweaks, including the option to customise the Apple Mail app by hiding profile photos of contacts via Settings. It also gave a cleaner look to the AppleCare and Warranty section with an updated banner design. So, what's new with beta 2? At this stage, not many flashy features. The update mainly focuses on improving system stability and performance, which is crucial for delivering a smoother user experience. If you were hoping for a fresh batch of AI-driven features, you'll likely need to wait until iOS 19 arrives later this year. It's not surprising that Apple is holding back on introducing major new features with iOS 18.5. The company appears to be sticking to its schedule, keeping things stable before focusing on iOS 19. The developer beta for iOS 19 is expected to roll out soon after the WWDC event. Reports suggest that iOS 19 could bring a significant visual overhaul, including redesigned app icons and customisation options. There's also speculation about new Android-inspired features making their way to iPhones, along with tighter integration between iOS, iPadOS, and possibly macOS as well.

Try This Expert Hack to Enhance Your iPhone Call Quality

Apple is preparing to release iOS 18.4 in April, and that update will likely bring more emoji and a new Food section to Apple News. But when Apple released iOS 16.4 in 2023, it introduced a feature that significantly improves the sound quality of your calls: Voice Isolation. While Apple had already added Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum to FaceTime calls with iOS 15 in 2021, only Voice Isolation is currently available for regular phone calls. Read more: Everything You Need to Know About iOS 18 When enabled, Voice Isolation muffles distracting background noises that interrupt your phone call. That way, if you're on a business call or catching up with friends, you won't be interrupted by your dog's barking or construction outside your home. To enable Voice Isolation, you have to be on an active phone call, as the feature isn't located in Settings. Once activated, Voice Isolation will remain on for all future calls unless you manually turn it off. Here's how to activate and disable Voice Isolation for phone calls. 1. Tap your Phone app.2. While in a phone call, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to access your Control Center.3. Tap Phone Controls near the top of your screen. 4. Tap Voice Isolation. To disable Voice Isolation, follow the same steps above and tap Standard in Phone Controls. This will return your microphone back to its default setting. Next to Voice Isolation in Phone Controls, you'll also find Wide Spectrum. Unlike Voice Isolation -- which muffles background sounds -- Wide Spectrum amplifies background sounds without affecting your voice. Wide Spectrum is useful for calls with multiple people on one phone line. That way, everyone can be heard, not just the person holding the phone. Currently, Wide Spectrum is only available for FaceTime calls. Since the feature is still present in Phone Controls, it could become available for phone calls in the future. For more on iOS 18, here's what you need to know about iOS 18.3.2, iOS 18.3.1 and iOS 18.3. You can also check out our iOS 18 cheat sheet.

Microsoft is making a major change to using your iPhone in Windows

In a recent Windows Insider Blog post, Microsoft announced it's adding the option for iPhone users to access their phones from the Start menu. Thanks to a special widget next to the Start menu, when you connect your phone, you can see data such as notifications, battery indicators, recent contacts, connection status, and more. To enjoy this feature, you must use the recent Windows 11 preview build from the Dev and Beta channels, and you must be a Windows Insider. You must also update the Phone Link app to version 1.24121.30.0 or higher, have a Microsoft account, and have a PC that supports Bluetooth LE. Microsoft said it does not support PCs running Pro Education or Education SKUs. Even if this doesn't affect you, the update is rolling out in phases, so reaching your PC might take some time if you don't already have it. Thanks to the updated Phone Link pane for the Start menu, iPhone users can now send and share files between an iPhone and an Android device. Last year, Microsoft also added Suggest Replies in the Phone Link app for quick replies. Now, iPhone users won't have to wait to get a piece of the pie. To enjoy this, go to the Start menu and choose whether to connect with an iPhone or Android. After that, follow the on-screen instructions to start using the feature. Microsoft first previewed the feature in December and is gradually rolling it out. If you're one of the lucky ones and have the feature, you can manage it by going to Settings > Personalization > Start. Microsoft has slowly updated the Phone Link app over the past several years, attempting to capture the seamless integration between a Mac and an iPhone. Phone Link isn't quite there yet, but it's getting closer. Meanwhile, Apple is moving ahead with features like iPhone Mirroring on Macs.
