Birds of a Feather star claims BBC show 'didn't want me' as she details brutal snub
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Birds of a Feather legend Lesley Joseph has claimed she was snubbed by a major BBC show when she expressed interest in participating. Known for her role as Dorien Green in the beloved sitcom, and her stint on Strictly Come Dancing, Lesley shared this revelation during a recent interview in which she discussed potential reality TV appearances. When quizzed about whether she would consider I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, the 79-year-old actress dismissed the idea of entering the Jungle merely to boost her profile, and instead named other types of shows she might be interested in. It also prompted her to share a tidbit about another hugely popular reality show on the BBC. Lesley apparently expressed an interest in the series, but she was ultimately turned down. (Image: BBC / Studio Lambert) Speaking to Bella magazine, Lesley said: "I don't particularly want to go into the Jungle just as a way to get my name back up there. I think some reality television can be very amusing and interesting - for example, Strictly and Dancing on Ice, when you've got people who are learning skills and entertaining. "Reality TV is slicing into drama, and I do think it's a very slippery slope if we go completely down that road. I wanted to take part in The Traitors, but they didn't want me." Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, The Traitors invites 22 strangers into a castle in the Scottish Highlands to compete in what the BBC describes as the "ultimate reality game of trust and treachery" for a cash prize of £120k. Launched last year, the programme has become a massive success story, with the broadcaster boasting a devoted viewership. It's been reported that the show's third series captivated an average of 10.3 million viewers across its dozen episodes. The psychological reality show has scooped up numerous accolades, such as the BAFTA TV Award for Best Reality and Constructed Factual and the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Entertainment Programme. (Image: Getty Images for Sentebale) A star-studded special edition of the programme is in the pipeline, featuring a dazzling array of celebrities including the likes of Alan Carr, Charlotte Church, Clare Balding, Stephen Fry, and Paloma Faith. In another recent admission by Lesley, the actress opened up about her future in the entertainment industry. Speaking to Woman's Own, she said: "At my age, I don't know how much longer I have left in the business." She revealed that she's "still ambitious" but conceded that her "time is limited". Meanwhile, she also shared details about how she stays fit, explaining that she "walks everywhere". In addition, she does yoga, ensures she gets enough sleep and takes vitamins. Lesley also detailed how she has "a lot more to offer" and there are roles that she'd like to tackle prior to retirement, adding that she became "frustrated" with the label of "sitcom queen".

BBC Strictly Come Dancing legend reveals reason she quit show and career change
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Strictly Come Dancing icon Flavia Cacace has opened up about her decision to swap the glitz of the dance floor for a life of farming after departing the hit show over a decade ago. The 45 year old graced the Strictly stage as a professional from 2006 to 2012, having joined the series with her then-dance partner Vincent Simone. Post-Strictly, Flavia tied the knot with EastEnders actor Jimi Mistry, whom she met on the show, and in 2021, the couple embraced rural life in Devon, cultivating vegetables and rearing farm animals. Flavia has now shared the reasons behind her dramatic career shift. Speaking on ITV's Lorraine this morning, Flavia explained: "I never retired, I just needed a break. I toured for eight years and when me and Vincent started touring, we would do seven, eight shows a week in each venue. We did that for eight years - I stopped in 2018, I was just exhausted." I needed that break and Covid came and it was one of those things where we said, 'Let's just go to the countryside.'". Flavia also mentioned her deep bond with animals, noting that she and Jimi have been enjoying their pastoral lifestyle for half a decade now, reports the Mirror. During her time on Strictly, Flavia reached the final with EastEnders' Matt Di Angelo in 2007, finishing as runner-up, and later clinched victory with Olympic gymnast Louis Smith in what would be her last series on the show. Matt and Flavia sparked a romance following their stint on Strictly, with the duo being an item until 2010. Flavia is now set to dazzle audiences once more as she embarks on a national tour with former Strictly sensation Oti Mabuse. After bidding farewell to Strictly in 2021, Oti has been a familiar face on shows like I'm A Me Out of Here, Celebrity Bake Off, and Big Brother: Late and Live. She also served as a judge on Dancing on Ice before its cancellation this year and hosted Oti Mabuse's Breakfast Show on ITV. In other Strictly news, Love Island victor Dani Dyer is reportedly joining the dance floor for this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing. Fresh from tying the knot with footballer Jarrod Bowen, Dani has allegedly inked a preliminary contract for the show and is currently negotiating her salary, as per The Sun. A source close to Strictly revealed to The Sun that BBC chiefs are "thrilled" about her participation and are finalising her payment details. They commented: "She's bubbly, down-to-earth and straight-talking and producers reckon she'll make an ideal contestant - not to mention the bonus of having Jarrod and dad Danny in the audience supporting her." Catch Lorraine every weekday morning at 9am on ITV1 and ITVX.

GMB's Susanna Reid admits she's 'in denial' about checking breasts
Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid said she was 'in denial' about checking her breasts because she was worried about what she might find, despite knowing it was an 'irrational' fear Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid, 54, delved into the critical topic of breast cancer checks with I'm A Celebrity alum and Coppafeel ambassador Giovanna Fletcher today. After pop star Jessie J disclosed her early breast cancer diagnosis, Susanna and Giovanna both emphasised the necessity of regular self-examinations. However, Susanna confessed her own hesitance, saying she feels "reluctant" to self-check as she's "worried" about potentially discovering something despite recognising this fear as "irrational". She elaborated on her feelings: "Psychologically there's a process of denial, if I don't find it, it's not there, and I don't need to worry about it." Price Tag singer Jessie shared her health update on Instagram, receiving an outpouring of support from celebrities like Strictly's Amy Dowden and Nadia Sawalha from Loose Women. In her candid post, Jessie revealed going through numerous tests, hanging onto the hope that detection was "holding on to the word 'early'" and adding a touch of humour: "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job." "I just wanted to be open and share it," Jessie asserted. "One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard." Noting the power of sharing, she said: "I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book." She expressed deep empathy: "It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse - that's the bit that kills me." On Good Morning Britain, Susanna highlighted the influence of celebrities like Jessie on public health actions, saying: "When somebody with Jessie J's profile speaks out, it really does have a direct impact on what people then do." She recalled how the Duchess of York's openness about her diagnosis prompted her own health checks: "I remember when the Duchess of York was open about her diagnosis, that meant that I went for a mammogram I had been delaying." Susanna confessed her own hesitations about self-checking, admitting: "But I have to admit, and I'm sure I'm not alone, that I am sometimes reluctant to check myself because I am worried about what I might find, and that is entirely irrational, because as Jessie J points out, if there is something to find, it is better to get it early." Giovanna concurred with the sentiment on the show: "Absolutely," she agreed. "We've got to not be scared about things like that, really." Susanna has been vocal about her experiences with mammograms in the past, citing the Duchess of York's breast cancer scare as a catalyst for her own screening. After overcoming initial "hurdles" to attend her screening, Susanna shared her positive experience on the ITV morning show in 2023: "I went in, and the nurse was absolutely lovely, and it wasn't in the least bit painful or uncomfortable." Her expectations were surpassed by the reality: "I was expecting it to be far, far worse." She ended with a plea to viewers who might be apprehensive: "So if you have been putting it off for that reason, please don't. Go and get your mammogram done," she urged. Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.

Hollyoaks star signs up to huge BBC show alongside EastEnders actress
It's set to be a huge series of Celebrity Race Across the World as a Hollyoaks and Derry Girls star is the latest celeb to join the line-up, according to reports A former Hollyoaks star is the latest famous face to sign up for BBC's Celebrity Race Across the World, according to reports. Fans of the Liverpool based soap will remember Dylan Llewellyn as cheeky character Martin "Jono" Johnson, as he's set to appear on screens once again. Since leaving the soap in 2016, the star has appeared in a number of high profile TV shows including Derry Girls, Big Boys and Beyond Paradise. Dylan's latest venture will now see him racing across the globe with a team mate in hopes to beat his competitors, without the help of a phone or credit card. The Mirror has contacted a representative of the show for comment. Despite his TV success, Dylan previously admitted to going through a rough patch in his career. While chatting on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, he shared his near brush with giving up acting: "I was struggling a bit and I was almost like going to give up on acting, you know?" 'And I just wasn't getting any auditions, and yeah, it was just a really quiet period and I was working in a coffee shop and just grafting because that's like the realities of acting. You've got to graft, you know, it's a really tough industry.' He revealed to the Guardian that his breakthrough role as James in Derry Girls came just in time. "It was emotional, really. I was about to give up. It really meant the world to me. It saved me," he said. Earlier this week it was reported that Molly Rainford and Tyler West have signed up for Celebrity Race Across the World, according to reports. The EastEnders star, 24, and Kiss FM presenter, 29, who met on BBC dance show Strictly Come Dancing in 2022, are said to have already filmed the smash-hit series in which a bunch of celebrities partake in an epic race across the world without their phones or credit cards to help. The last series, which aired last summer saw stars, including Kelly Brook, Scott Mills, Jeff Brazier and Kola Bokinni race across South America. Speaking on the reported signing of the Strictly couple, a source told The Sun: "Molly and Tyler are a huge coup for the show. They're popular with millions of viewers from their stints on Strictly, and Molly will bring in loads of EastEnders fans too." Molly and Tyler's relationship blossomed during the Strictly Live Tour in 2023, and things have been going from strength to strength ever since.

So far this series, we've seen First Dates star Fred Sirieix, comedian Aisling Bea and Strictly's Layton Williams uncover lost connections and unfamiliar histories as they trace their family tree. Fans can expect to go on an emotional journey with the singer as he starts by researching his paternal granddad, who he never had the chance to meet. Elsewhere, fans can dig their teeth into a sweet treat as Bake Off: The Professionals continues, and The One Show host Matt Baker kicks off his new series... Pick of the Day Who Do You Think You Are?, BBC1, 9pm One day, Will Young 's descendants will boast that they are related to the first ever winner of Pop Idol. But Will has no idea what he's going to find on his own journey into his family's past, apart from his fanciful hope that he is secretly a Viking! Will starts by researching his paternal granddad, Digby, who he never had the chance to meet. He discovers a young man who studied medicine at Oxford University, but spent most of his time competing in swimming races at the pool. After enthusiastically signing up to the RAF Reserves, Digby fought in World War Two, before being captured as a POW after his plane was hit and suffered engine failure. It was an experience he rarely talked about later in life, and the more Will learns, the better he understands what a traumatic ordeal it must have been. There's one particularly incredible story of Digby's heroic efforts within the POW camp that takes Will's breath away... Later, Will picks himself up from Digby's emotional story to research another branch of his family tree. He's shocked to discover his 18x great grandfather Hugh Le Despenser was one of the most contentious figures in 14 th century politics, who owned Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire. It gives Will a spring in his step to visit a family castle, but he soon learns of his ancestor's malicious abuses of power, which made him a villain of the court. Luckily there's another twist to come, as Will discovers a link to Medieval royalty. Bake Off: The Professionals, C4, 8pm If you've not heard of a petit Antoine, you just need to know that it's a calorific French delicacy, involving layers of deliciousness such as praline and chocolate ganache. Tonight, exacting judge Benoit asks the teams to create a batch of these gorgeous treats, with 24 immaculate examples that look and taste identical. They must also serve up 24 uniform fruit tarts, but Cherish wants the pros to completely reinvent the classic dessert, so they won't look anything like the jam tarts you made at school. Just to crank up the pressure, this is a particular favourite for Cherish, so she'll be even more critical than usual (we didn't think it was possible). Tonight's showpiece has a Japanese zen garden theme, and the judges are looking for roll cakes that will feed 24 people. Standard Swiss rolls aren't welcome here, so expect complex creations with flavours that burst through the screen. Matt Baker's British Isles, More 4, 9pm The former One Show host is launching a new series, celebrating the best of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England. But he's not looking at the scenery – this programme is all about the people who make Britain special. Starting in Kent, he discovers the local vineyard owner making fine sparkling wine, giving French champagne producers a run for their money. Then, it's off to the Highlands for something completely different, as Matt swaps anecdotes with two former farmers, who are at the heart of their community as a chaplain and a fiddler. The music theme continues in Northern Ireland, where Matt meets a man who makes stunning acoustic guitars for world-famous musicians. Then it's off to the Rhondda Valley in Wales to visit a buried Victorian railway tunnel. The dedicated locals have grand plans to turn this two-mile long passageway into a walking and cycling route that would be the envy of Europe. Diddy in Plain Sight: Untold, C4, 11.05pm In 2024, shocking CCTV footage was released, showing rapper Sean Combs (also known as both Diddy and Puff Daddy) appearing to assault his girlfriend, singer Cassie, in a hotel. It triggered a wave of new allegations including sex trafficking, which have left the hip hop world reeling. This documentary charts the performer's rise and fall, and talks to people who have spent time with him over the years, including his former bodyguard. They reflect on why it took so long for accusations to surface. EastEnders, BBC1, 7.30pm Peter and Lauren's relationship is hanging by a thread. Peter takes Jimmy to a hospital appointment on his own after Lauren stayed out all evening. Meanwhile, Lauren and Honey have a candid chat. Cindy worries the re-launch of The Albert is going to be a flop when she hears about disappointing ticket sales. Her attempts to build buzz for the event go wrong when she gets into a row with Elaine.
