‘Flavours of Pakistan' continue to Shine at Expo 2025 Osaka
OSAKA (Japan): As the Pakistan Food Festival enters its third day at World Expo 2025 Osaka, the spotlight shifted to one of Pakistan's most cherished and naturally rich offerings — the date fruit. Organised by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the four-day festival is part of a broader cultural initiative themed 'Flavours of Pakistan,' inviting global audiences to experience the country's culinary diversity and heritage. One of the highlights of the day was a visually stunning date display area, where a variety of premium Pakistani dates were presented in elegant arrangements. Dates were beautifully filled with nuts such as almonds, pistachios, and walnuts, while some featured creative pairings with matcha, offering a fusion of Pakistani and Japanese tastes. Date shakes and a variety of traditional nuts added richness to the setup, making the display both visually striking and deeply flavorful. Guests were invited to sample freshly flown-in Pakistani dates, many tasting them for the first time. Visitors praised their soft texture, rich natural sweetness, and the intricate craftsmanship behind the presentation. The display also became a popular photo spot, drawing in a steady stream of curious and delighted attendees. TDAP officials meet PFMA delegation
LAHORE: Chief Executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Faiz Ahmad, met with a high-level delegation of the Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA) at the TDAP Office in Lahore to discuss key issues and opportunities in the country's footwear export sector. The PFMA delegation included Hassan Javed, CEO Service Global Footwear and Pakistan's largest footwear exporter, along with Abid Hafeez, Senior Vice Chairman PFMA. The delegation expressed appreciation to the Chief Executive for taking personal interest in the issues relating to the Pakistani footwear industry. The delegation highlighted the sector's untapped potential, especially in light of China's anticipated relocation of its footwear industry to the region. They stressed the need for Pakistan to act swiftly to attract this investment shift and position itself as a regional manufacturing hub. The PFMA team lauded Faiz Ahmad's comprehensive understanding of the sector's issues and his forward-looking approach. In response, the Chief Executive assured the delegation of TDAP's unwavering commitment to supporting the footwear industry. TDAP and FOSPAH organise seminar on Workplace Harassment Act
KARACHI: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), in collaboration with the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH), successfully conducted an awareness seminar on the Workplace Harassment Act at the TDAP Head Office in Karachi. The seminar aimed to educate TDAP officers and officials on the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, highlighting the legal framework, complaint mechanisms, and preventive measures to foster a safe and respectful work environment. Sabika Shah, Regional Head (Sindh) of FOSPAH, served as the keynote speaker, delivering an insightful session on the legal provisions, procedural guidelines, and institutional responsibilities under the law. The interactive discussion emphasized the importance of awareness, reporting protocols, and organizational accountability in combating workplace harassment. This initiative underscores TDAP and FOSPAH's shared commitment to promoting gender-sensitive workplaces and ensuring compliance with national laws. By empowering employees with knowledge and resources, the seminar reinforced a culture of dignity, safety, and zero tolerance for harassment. TDAP holds seminar on ‘Wood Identification' at SCCI Peshawar
PESHAWAR: A seminar titled 'Wood Identification, Quality Assessment and Export Procedure' was organized by the E&M-Division-II of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) at Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), Peshawar. The event was held in collaboration with SCCI and was well attended by a large number of renowned business representatives from the furniture sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The seminar included inaugural remarks, technical presentations and an interactive question-and-answer session. After the formal opening by the TDAP, the President of SCCI and the Chairman of the Furniture Association (KP Chapter) in their speeches highlighted key challenges faced by the furniture industry in business promotion and increasing exports. The technical session featured three presentations. Dr Zahid Rauf and Dr Tanveer Hussain from the Pakistan Forest Institute provided detailed insights on wood identification and quality assessment. From TDAP, Nadia Farooqui, Director and Zahid Mohammad, Deputy Director shared valuable information on international trade and export procedures relevant to the furniture industry. The seminar was highly informative and well appreciated by all participants. Responding to feedback from the attendees, the President of SCCI emphasized the need for TDAP to continue organizing such capacity-building sessions, particularly on topics such as e-commerce and digital marketing. During the seminar, participants also discussed key issues hindering furniture exports. These included the non-functional status of the Pakistan Furniture Institute in Hayatabad and the absence of allocated land for the establishment of a dedicated Furniture City. Seminar on enhancing Pakistan's fodder export held
BAHAWALPUR: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), in collaboration with the Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, successfully hosted a seminar titled 'Enhancing Pakistan's Fodder Export through Best Practices and Market Opportunities' at Bahawalpur. This event, the third in a series following successful sessions in Multan and Rahim Yar Khan in December 2024, aimed to bolster Pakistan's fodder export potential by promoting resource-efficient farming, compliance with international standards, and market access strategies for high-potential markets like China, Korea, and Qatar. Moderated by Ms Hina Tahir, Deputy Director (Agro & Food Division), TDAP, the seminar convened key stakeholders, including exporters, representatives from the Department of Plant Protection, Ayub Agriculture Research Institute, and trade missions from Korea and China. The event featured virtual participation from exporters, underscoring the growing industry interest in Pakistan's fodder export sector. Athar Hussain Khokhar, Director General (Agro & Food Division), TDAP, emphasized TDAP's commitment to unlocking global fodder markets through innovation, compliance, and collaboration. He highlighted recent trade initiatives, including the Pakistan Animal Fodder Delegation to Qatar, which engaged six Pakistani companies in productive B2B meetings with Qatari firms like Hassad Food, Widam Food, and Baladna, fostering opportunities for Rhodes grass, alfalfa, and other fodder exports. Dr Qamar Shakil, Chief Scientist at the Agriculture Biotechnology Research Institute, Faisalabad, shared advanced techniques for optimizing Rhodes grass and other fodder crop production, focusing on quality enhancement and sustainability to meet export market demands. Ghulam Qadir, Trade & Investment Counsellor (Beijing), highlighted China's position as the world's largest feed producer and consumer, with 2024 feed imports totalling $13.74 billion. Despite Pakistan's modest 1.84% share ($253 million), primarily in oil seeds and fish meals, Rhodes grass holds significant potential due to an approved import protocol. He urged exporters to register with China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) to activate this protocol and explore negotiations for sorghum and alfalfa, which face current restrictions. Key Chinese importers, such as New Hope Liuhe Co, Ltd and Tongwei Co, Ltd, were identified as potential partners. Muhammad Hassan Farid, Trade & Investment Counsellor (Seoul), noted that Korea imports over 70% of its animal feed, with Pakistan's 2024 exports to Korea reaching $2 million. He emphasized the untapped potential for cereal straw and bovine feed, contingent on establishing APQA-approved quarantine facilities in Pakistan to meet Korean regulatory standards. Dr Khalid Zafar, Entomologist from the Department of Plant Protection provided technical guidance on GACC and APQA registration processes, detailing phytosanitary requirements, including pest control, certification, and pre-shipment inspections to ensure compliance. Pakistan's fodder industry, producing 55 million tonnes annually, including 5 million tonnes of alfalfa, is well-positioned to capture emerging markets. With 470,000 hectares of suitable land in Punjab and competitive production costs, Pakistan offers a cost and logistics edge, particularly for Gulf markets like Qatar, located just 1,100 km away. The recent delegation to Qatar secured strong interest from major buyers, with Hassad Food requesting product samples for Rhodes grass and Widam Food initiating vendor registration for Pakistani suppliers. Baladna, Qatar's leading dairy producer, expressed keen interest in alfalfa, aligning with Pakistan's high-quality offerings. The seminar underscored the need for policy actions to enhance export competitiveness, including expanding GACC-registered exporters, expediting sorghum protocol negotiations with China, and establishing APQA-approved facilities for Korea.
