‘Big Bang Theory' star Kunal Nayyar gets candid on if he'd be open to a reboot

We'd love to put this plan into motion. After starring as astrophysicist Raj in 'The Big Bang Theory' for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019, Kunal Nayyar would love to get the gang back together. But, it might be too soon to be shouting 'Bazinga!' just yet. 12 Kunal Nayyar attends the 'South Asians at the Oscars' Pre-Oscars Party. Getty Images for A-Game Public Relations 'First of all, I would be game because I'd love to spend more time with people who are my family,' Nayyar, 44. 'But look, we only ended in 2019. I'm not sure you're legally allowed to have a reunion. What? Six years after the show ends!' 'I think that would obviously have to mature a little bit,' the 'A.J. Fikry' alum continued. 'Even though the show ended in 2019, it's still on every single day, so it feels like even though the show is over, it's still on. So I think some time would have to pass, and hopefully, if I'm not too old to wear a t-shirt or a sweater vest, yes, I would love to come back on.' The CBS sitcom followed a group of best friends and roommates and also starred Kaley Cuoco as Penny, Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter, Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz, and Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler. 12 Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg on 'The Big Bang Theory.' ©CBS/Courtesy Everett Collection When the show went off air, fans weren't completely out of the 'Big Bang' universe, as the spinoff 'Young Sheldon' started in 2017, which followed Sheldon Cooper growing up in East Texas. 'There is an entire generation of people who are watching 'Young Sheldon' for the first time, and then they realize there is an entire 12 years of a show after 'Young Sheldon,' so it's the greatest gift,' Nayyar gushed, 'and it was one of the greatest periods of our life, and we are all so lucky to have lived it.' If the network were to get the cast back together for one more hoorah, the actor knows exactly what the close-knit friend group would be up to. 12 Beth Behrs, Kunal Nayyar on 'Big Bang Theory.' ©CBS/Courtesy Everett Collection / Everett Collection 'I think we would just be sitting on the couch eating Chinese food like we always have. That's the family, and the family always stays together,' the actor told The Post. Looking back at his time on set, the comedian admitted that it was hard to stay in character while dealing with a room full of hilarious stars. And one funny man, in particular, is to blame. 'You know, Simon Helberg, who played Wolowitz, is still the funniest human to have ever lived,' Nayyar stated. 'Any time I'm in a scene with him, he would just do something that would set me off. I'm not sure I was pissing them off, but we show up in front of a live audience. You have to get it right. You can't mess around. I was quite embarrassed because I would always break, and I would wait for the camera to turn to the other actor, and then I would break and come back.' 12 Nathan Fillion, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar on the CBS sitcom. ©CBS/Courtesy Everett Collection 'But I was terrible so I'm apologizing to everyone,' he added. 'We were very lucky to have a really loving and happy set for 12 years.' These days, the 'Criminal: UK' star is still in touch with 'everyone,' explaining that their bond is one for the books. 'You can't go through a run like that without being [close],' confessed Nayyar. 'I spent more time with them than I did with my actual family. So I'm in touch with everyone. We are all still very close.' 12 'The Big Bang Theory.' ©CBS/Courtesy Everett Collection / Everett Collection Although, don't expect this cast to have a text chain. 'It's individual text,' Nayyar teased, 'I have like 70 family group chats, so no more group chats!' Over the years, the tech creator has taken on a variety of roles but has one genre in mind that he'd be open to exploring next. 'I would love to do true crime detective, badass kind of work,' revealed Nayyar. 'Just to explore that world, obviously, because I played one specific character on television for so long. I did a TV show on Netflix called 'Criminal: UK.' I got nominated for a BAFTA for that. I did a show for Apple called 'Suspicion.' I did a movie called 'A.J. Fikry.' Predominantly, mostly dramatic work, but it's something different and nice to explore.' 12 Laura Spencer, Kunal Nayyar in 'The Big Bang Theory.' ©CBS/Courtesy Everett Collection Nayyar also shared who his dream co-star would be, although he couldn't pick just one. 'If Philip Seymour Hoffman were alive, he'd be my greatest guest star of all time,' Nayyar detailed. 'I love Jeffrey Wright, Tom Hanks, all the classic actors who I really, really look up to. I would love to work opposite of.' Along with being a seasoned actor, Nayyar is proving he's more like his on-screen character than some may think, having created the new app IQ121 (pronounced IQ One-Two-One). 'I think all of us actors will admit that we bring aspects of our personality to all the characters we play,' Nayyar said about playing Raj. 'If that means a part of me is nerdy, I am happy to accept it.' 12 Kunal Nayyar's new app designed to help individuals, families and professionals organize, manage and safely store essential life documents and digital assets. 12 Kunal Nayyer in season 2 of 'Criminal: UK.' ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection 12 Kunal Nayyar in 'Criminal: UK.' ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection 'Biggest similarities, there are quite a few, obviously,' he expanded. 'Obviously, we are very different in real life. I have no issues talking to women. I've been married a long time now, but there are a lot of similarities. I am obsessed with 'Star Wars,' I am a big comic book nerd; there are many ways in which we are similar, and of course, there are many ways in which we are different.' When it comes to putting his all into this work, as long as their is a creative outlet involved that he's passionate about – Nayyar is all in. 'I don't really differentiate between creating an app or acting – for me, it's all a creative process,' he shared. 'I love the idea of creating this app, and I love the idea of being on set and shooting a movie or shooting a TV series, so I don't think there is one or another. I feel, in my heart, I am going to do it with the purest energy I can.' 12 Kunal Nayyar in 'The Storied Life of AJ Fikry.' Vertical Entertainment 12 Kunal Nayyar. Vertical Entertainment Nayyar's new app, meanwhile, was created while he was on a flight from London to Los Angeles, thinking of all the info he needed to get his parents before he booked their trip. 'IQ121 was actually born because I live between Los Angeles, London and New Delhi, and I have family scattered all over the world,' he explained. 'And every time I needed to book a flight for my parents to come visit me, it's like, 'Can you please scan your passport? Can I get your license? I've got to fill this out. So, I was like, why don't we have one place, a digital storehouse for the family, where we can create a place that is safe and encrypted for us to share sensitive documents.' In this day and age of technology, it's more important than ever to have a safe and easy space to access and share documents, as well as pictures and personal information. 12 Kunal Nayyar attends the Royal Film Performance and Global Premiere of 'Gladiator II.' Getty Images for Paramount Pictures 'That is sort of how this came together,' he added. 'For me, it was more out of a necessity. I was like we need to create something so families scattered all over the world [can access it]. This is exactly why I created this and why it's very important for our times.' Nayyar hopes users will use IQ121 for years to come for a multitude of reasons. 'It's not just a digital storehouse for sensitive, familial documents; it's also a place [where] you can upload photographs and memories. I hope ultimately it becomes a digital file you can then hand down to generations in the family.'

Haley Joel Osment ordered to AA, therapy after alleged public drunkenness at ski resort

Haley Joel Osment must commit to six months of court-mandated Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and therapy after he was arrested earlier this year for alleged public drunkenness and cocaine possession. The 'Sixth Sense' and 'Blink Twice' actor, 37, was arraigned Monday in Mono County, Calif. The Times confirmed that a judge granted the former child actor's request for a one-year diversion. Osment, older brother of 'Young Sheldon' alumna Emily Osment, will be cleared of his charges if he completes the terms of diversion: at least 3 AA meetings per week and at least two meetings with his therapist for the next six months. He must also 'obey all laws,' Mono County District Attorney David Anderson said in a statement to The Times on Tuesday. 'If he does not complete diversion, the criminal proceedings will be reinstated,' Anderson said. A representative for the actor did not immediately respond on Tuesday to The Times' request for comment. Osment, also known for lending his voice to the popular 'Kingdom Hearts' video game franchise, was arrested April 8 on suspicion of public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance at the popular Mammoth Mountain ski resort. The Mono County district attorney's office said at the time it charged the 'Spoils of Babylon' actor with two misdemeanors: disorderly conduct involving alcohol and possession. Law enforcement responded to a call about an allegedly intoxicated individual at the ski resort, TMZ reported in April. The website published video of Osment, wearing his ski helmet backward, allegedly holding up the line for a ski lift. Frustrated resort guests urged Osment to 'get out of the line,' but he brushed off their demands and refused to follow a crew member who tried to escort him to the side, according to the video. Adding to his troubles, Osment berated his arresting officer, claiming 'I've been kidnapped by a f— Nazi' and hurling an antisemitic slur at the officer. After the footage surfaced, Osment said in a statement that he was 'absolutely horrified by my behavior ... in the throes of a blackout.' 'From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage — I've let the Jewish community down and it devastates me,' he added at the time. 'I don't ask for anyone's forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.' Anderson said in his statement that his office 'did not believe diversion was appropriate and objected' to Osment's request, citing the actor's prior DUI conviction and his comments to the officer. Ultimately, a judge decided in Osment's favor. Osment is next due in court Jan. 5, 2026, for a review of his diversion compliance. Before then, he is set to appear in Season 2 of Netflix's hit series 'Wednesday.' The streaming giant revealed his serial killer role during its Tudum fan event on Saturday in Inglewood.

Valerie Mahaffey, Emmy-winning 'Northern Exposure' star and 'Young Sheldon' actress, dies at 71

Valerie Mahaffey, the actress best known for her roles on Northern Exposure and Young Sheldon, has died. A representative for the actress confirmed her death at the age of 71 to Entertainment Weekly on Saturday. Mahaffey's husband, actor and director Joseph Kell, mourned her death in a statement to EW. "I have lost the love of my life, and America has lost one of its most endearing actresses," he said. "She will be missed." Mahaffey's daughter, actress Alice Ziolkoski, said her mother had been battling cancer in a tribute to her on Instagram. "Don't really have the words to say right now. Cancer sucks," she wrote. "I'll look for you in all the fun moments of life. I know that's where you'll be💕🪽. I know we'll see each other again someday. I love you infinity much." The actress' former manager, Scott Howard, also remembered Mahaffey in a statement to EW. "I always liked Valerie very much, and only have the nicest things to say about her and her family," he wrote. "She was a lovely woman and wonderful actor, filled with empowerment, strength, and resilience." In a career that spanned six decades, Mahaffey landed a variety of supporting performances across television and film. She won an Emmy for her five-episode stint on the 1990s comedy-drama Northern Exposure playing wealthy hypochondriac Eve, and also portrayed Alma Hodge on nine episodes of Desperate Housewives. Her best-known recent project was Young Sheldon, on which she played Victoria MacElroy, Sheldon's homeroom and English teacher. Born in Indonesia in 1953 to a Canadian mother and an American father, Mahaffey earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin and made her debut on Broadway as Catherine Howard in the Richard Rodgers musical Rex in 1976. The following year, she made her screen debut in the TV movie Tell Me My Name. The actress' second credited screen role came on the NBC soap opera The Doctors. She portrayed Ashley Bennett for over 100 episodes between 1979 and 1981, and earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. In 1986, Mahaffey starred alongside Susan Sarandon and Kristy McNichol in the TV movie Women of Valor, and also appeared in every episode of the soap-spoof miniseries Fresno, which also starred Carol Burnett, Dabney Coleman, Teri Garr, and Charles Grodin. She spent the next several years making one-off appearances on shows like Newhart, Quantum Leap, and Cheers, and also played D.A. Barbara August in two 1989 Perry Mason TV movies. Mahaffey also played Patrice, the ex-girlfriend of Jason Alexander's George Costanza in the 1991 Seinfeld episode "The Truth." In it, Patrice demands that George explain why he broke up with her, and George admits that he's put off by her pretentious pronunciation patterns. The same year, Mahaffey joined Northern Exposure as Eve, the wife of master chef Adam (Adam Arkin). The role earned Mahaffey an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1992. Mahaffey was also a cast member on the short-lived political sitcom The Powers That Be from 1992 to 1993. Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman before they created Friends, the show also starred John Forsythe, Holland Taylor, David Hyde Pierce, and a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The actress scored recurring roles on other '90s shows, including ER, The Client, and Wings. Around the same time, she played supporting roles in a handful of films, including the Tim Allen comedy Jungle 2 Jungle and the political comedy National Lampoon's Senior Trip, which was also Jeremy Renner's movie debut. In the 2000s, Mahaffey appeared in episodes of The West Wing, Frasier, CSI, Private Practice, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and numerous other shows. She also appeared in 2003's Seabiscuit and had a recurring role on Showtime's United States of Tara. However, her best-known role of the 2000s was on Desperate Housewives, on which she portrayed Alma Hodge, the first wife of Kyle MacLachlan's Orson Hodge, for eight episodes on the show's third season before dying after falling out a window. She returned in season 8 in 2012 as a ghost. In the 2010s, the actress acted in episodes of shows like Hannah Montana, Grey's Anatomy, The Mindy Project, Workaholics, and Raising Hope. She had multi-episode runs on numerous other series, including Glee, Hart of Dixie, Devious Maids, and The Man in the High Castle. She also played Katie Holmes' mother in the Adam Sandler vehicle Jack and Jill and acted opposite Tom Hanks in Clint Eastwood's biopic final slate of projects included Dead to Me, on which she played Christina Applegate's character's mother-in-law, and Big Sky, on which she played the mother of Brian Geraghty's character. She also starred in the film French Exit, in which she portrayed the neighbor of Michelle Pfeiffer's character, and earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Female. Mahaffey is survived by her husband and her daughter. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly
