Ex-Pakistan Test head coach Jason Gillespie takes brutal dig at PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi: ‘Gary came up with this…'
Speaking on a podcast, Gillespie recalled that the work done by himself and white-ball coach Gary Kirsten to attend the camp, which was also initially by the latter, received a lack of engagament from Naqvi.
'Gary came up with this great idea of a connection camp. Everyone in Pakistan cricket basically shared their experiences in that meeting. I flew in from Australia, Gary flew in from South Africa, the Chairman Mohsin Naqvi dialed in Zoom,' he said.
'He is based in Lahore, but he did not come, while Gary came in from Africa. We both felt that the Chairman could not even drive 20 minutes to come here - that was a bit unusual,' he added.
The camp was held by PCB on September 23, 2024, and its agenda was to improve communication, collaboration and performance among the national team.
The participants in the camp were Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, and Shan Masood. Meanwhile, the camp was described as a timely initiative by PCB COO. Gillespie resigned as Pakistan Test coach last year.

'Hamaare saamne Virat Kohli hai': Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan told they must quit if respect is lost after Asia Cup snub
Former Pakistan fast bowler Tanveer Ahmed sparked a debate after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday announced the squad for the Asia Cup, saying that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who were snubbed for the tournament, should follow the 'Virat Kohli' path and retire from international cricket if "respect matters." Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were not picked for Asia Cup It was not long ago that Babar was the No. 1 T20I batter, having broken numerous records in the format, and until last year, in the T20 World Cup, even captained Pakistan, with the PCB having reinstated him in the role. Rizwan, too, was part of that squad that suffered a forgettable group-stage exit in the USA. However, both were snubbed from the two T20I series Pakistan played this year, before incurring a similar fate for the Asia Cup. Taking to social media, Tanveer urged the two senior batters to consider quitting international cricket if they felt disrespected. "Meri Babar Azam aur Rizwan say request hai ager ap log yeh samajhtey hain ap logon ke izzat nahi ha tou retirement ley lo international cricket say humarey samne virat kohli ke examples hain. @babarazam258, @iMRizwanPak izzat apney hath main ha (My request to Babar Azam and Rizwan is that if you feel your respect is not intact, then consider retiring from international cricket. We have examples of Virat Kohli in front of us. Babar and Rizwan, respect is in your hands)," he tweeted. Kohli was widely speculated to have announced his shock retirement from Test cricket in May after being pressurised by the BCCI. However, board Vice-President Rajeev Shukla later clarified that it was entirely Kohli's decision. 'We are feeling the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It was their decision to retire and the BCCI doesn't tell any player to retire. It was their call," he said last month. Following the squad announcement, Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson revealed that Babar had been asked to work on his strike rate in the format, especially against spinners, and deliver strong performances in Australia's Big Bash League (BBL) later this year to force his way into the Pakistan T20I setup for the World Cup next year. "There's no doubt Babar's been asked to improve in some areas around taking on spin and in terms of his strike rate. Those are things he's working really hard on," Hesson said. "A player like Babar has an opportunity to play in the BBL and show he's improving in those areas in T20s. He's too good a player not to consider," he added. Tanveer also raised concerns about Pakistan's selection process for the Asia Cup, questioning whether Fakhar Zaman, who suffered a left hamstring strain during the 2nd T20I on the recent West Indies tour, was forced into the team. "Was Fakhar Zaman forced into the team, or was he included to prevent Babar Azam from being selected? How did Fakhar Zaman get in?" he asked.

"India Like Mercedes": Pak Minister Doubles Down On Asim Munir's "Crude Analogy"
Islamabad: The Shehbaz Sharif government in Pakistan seems to be backing Army Chief Asim Munir's embarrassing admission of Islamabad's current standing vis-à-vis New Delhi. Pakistan's de facto military ruler, during his recent visit to the United States, compared India to a "shining Mercedes" and his own country to a "dump truck". Lauding Munir's leadership during the India-Pakistan military conflict, Pakistan's interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi, said that the Field Marshal used the same analogy to boast about Pakistan's prowess to a Saudi delegation that visited Pakistan in May amid war. "The Field Marshal told them, 'India is like a shining Mercedes, but we are like a dumper truck loaded with stones. Imagine the result if they collide.' The delegation remained silent," he said during a seminar in Lahore. Pakistan confirms Munir's "we are a dumper truck, India a Mercedes" statement "India is a shining Mercedes. We are a dumper truck full of gravel. If we collide, you know the impact on Mercedes. Our field Marshal Munir says", says Pakistan's interior minister Mohsin Naqvi — Sidhant Sibal (@sidhant) August 17, 2025 Contrary to publicly available proof, Naqvi claimed none of the Indian missiles landed on targets at any major military base in Pakistan. India had struck multiple Pakistani air bases during 'Operation Sindoor', damaging runways, hangars, and buildings, causing a massive blow to Pakistan. The evidence of it was visible in high-resolution satellite images released by Maxar Technologies Air Marshal AK Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, during a press briefing, said India hit selected military targets deep inside Pakistan and its response was "measured and calibrated." Munir's Crude Analogy Munir, speaking at a private dinner in Florida last week, used the unusual "crude analogy"-- as he himself called it-- to describe the two neighbours. "I am going to use a crude analogy to explain the situation... India is a shining Mercedes coming on a highway like a Ferrari, but we are a dump truck full of gravel. If the truck hits the car, who will be the loser?" Munir, who was on his second visit to the US in two months, reportedly said. His "analogy" about New Delhi drew peals of laughter on social media for its description of Pakistan, with internet users observing that even in his comparison, Munir made his own country look bad. "The only truth in Munir's statement is that India is the Mercedes, and his country is the dump truck. The rest is delusion," wrote a X user. Another user posted a picture of a missile-laden Mercedes and wrote, "India is a missile-packed beast that is straight-up deadly. It's gonna wreck you." "At least they know their are a dump truck and nothing marshal admitted that they are pathetic," posted a third user.

Asia Cup: No Babar, Rizwan Or Naseem Yet PCB Selector Makes Bold Prediction For India Clash
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made some tough decisions as it announced the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025. The country's top stars like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Naseem Shah were snubbed by the selectors, with a different category of players being preferred. Yet, Pakistan Cricket Board chief selector Aaqib Javed is confident of this Pakistan team beating Team India, the reigning T20 world champions, in the Asia Cup. Javed said that the current Pakistan team, despite its woeful performances in the recent past, has what it takes to beat the Suryakumar Yadav -led Indian team. "Pakistan's T20 team can beat India. India vs Pakistan matches are always huge. This 17-member squad can defeat any team. We shouldn't put pressure on them, but I have high hopes for this squad," Javed said at a media conference. The PCB has put its trust in many younger stars, whose selections have come at the cost of some of the veterans of the game. As per Javed, the Pakistan Super League played a big role in helping the board zero in on player selections. "It's not that we are completely sidelining them. The current choices reflect how a player develops. I've given examples of Sahibzada Farhan, Saim, and Fakhar. Sahibzada made a comeback, Saim initially struggled but later created an impact," he stated. "You can't put a stamp on any player's career-opportunities are always there. Right now, they're gaining experience in leagues like the Big Bash and PSL. Whoever performs will play, and only those who perform deserve to play," Javed added. Javed also shed light on Babar's exclusion from the Asia Cup squad and a potential comeback route. "There's no doubt Babar's been asked to improve in some areas around taking on spin and in terms of his strike rate. Those are things he's working really hard on."
