Becky Hill hits back at Jack Whitehall for dubbing her 'Wetherspoons Whitney' at BRITs

Yahoo12-03-2025

Becky Hill has called out BRITs host Jack Whitehall for calling her a "Wetherspoons Whitney" during the awards show.
The singer, who found fame on The Voice in 2012, took to her Instagram Stories to hit back at the host for seemingly joking about her working-class upbringing during the ceremony earlier this month.
"Imagine being called a 'Wetherspoons Whitney' by some privately educated nepo baby who has a TV show with daddy the showbiz agent on national TV," Hill wrote. "My parents worked so hard to provide a middle class life for me, even tho they couldn't afford it, no one gave me a leg up, I wasn't close to London so I couldn't go to @brits school. So if you associate a Midlands accent with a Wetherspoons that's says more about the silver spoon in your mouth jolly ol' boy (sic)."
The Remember singer made her scathing remarks alongside a graphic showing that Jack and BRIT Award winners Charli XCX, The Last Dinner Party and A.G. Cook attended expensive private schools.
The 31-year-old, who hails from Worcestershire, was nominated for a BRIT for Best Dance Act, but she was beaten by Charli.
In a follow-up post, she wrote alongside a selfie, "Me and my working class attitude off to WORK today. Remember not to be out of touch today kids, even if ur daddy is rich. Shout out Jack Whitehall for the fuel to my fire (sic)."
Whitehall, who starred in Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father with his dad Michael, has yet to respond to her comments.
His fifth BRITs hosting stunt was also criticised by Miquita Oliver recently. She told Lily Allen on their joint Miss Me? podcast that she didn't like his "condescending and somewhat glib attitude" and "dated" jokes.
Oliver added that he wasn't "the right person" for the job because he "undermined" the musicians in the room with his tone.

Omaha's Shining Star, DREION, Returns for Music at Miller Park

OMAHA, NE / / June 10, 2025 / Some artists perform. Others uplift. But when DREION takes the stage, he transforms it. The Omaha-born singer, songwriter and foster care advocate will headline the first of three free Music at Miller Park concerts in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, June 28. But this isn't just any show for DREION. It's a homecoming. And it's deeply personal. DREION's love for music began in the pews of Grace Apostolic Worldwide Ministries. That early spark, nurtured by family musicians and Omaha Northwest High School educators, was further honed at Berklee College of Music and has since evolved into a bold, genre-defying sound he calls "inspirational soul and R&B." Last fall, DREION competed on "The Voice," turning all four chairs with his soulful rendition of "Shining Star" by Earth, Wind & Fire. But his story didn't start with celebrity judges - it starts with something much harder to talk about. At seven years old, DREION entered the foster care system, enduring five placements, seven medications and repeated emotional trauma in just six months. "I didn't realize my story could help others until I started sharing it," he said. He decided to heal and tell his story through music and contacted foster care advocacy organizations to see how it could help. That led him to become a national ambassador for Earth, Wind & Fire's Music is Unity Foundation. "When I did that first event, I realized so many people have similar stories, and some are still experiencing it. I returned to my mother with a positive outcome, but many didn't have a positive outcome. I knew at that moment I had to be the voice because few people share their stories. They were too scared to share their story. They were ashamed. They may not even be able to share or know how. They were too traumatized." His song about his experience, "Let It Rain," was featured in the movie "Foster Boy," which premiered in 2020. "They were finished with the movie. They loved my music so much they went back and re-edited the movie to add it in there," he shared. "Foster Boy" is currently streaming on Peacock and Tubi. DREION continues to be a catalyst for foster youth who can't speak out for themselves. He'll be opening for Earth, Wind & Fire again this summer, including a stop at The Astro in July. During that show, DREION will welcome some foster youth from the community backstage for a behind-the-scenes experience. "It's one thing to tell kids their dreams are valid. It's another thing to invite them in and show them it's possible," he said. Technically, this isn't DREION's first Music at Miller Park concert, but it might as well be. When he was slated to perform in 2023, storms rolled in and washed the concert out after just two songs. "I never really got to give the full show I had planned," he said. "This is my redemption moment. And I'm pulling out all the stops." That includes surprise guests and interactive moments that promise to make the evening unforgettable. The crowd will also be among the first to hear his new single, "Thank You for Loving Me," part of a larger album and tour in the works for 2026. While his experience on "The Voice" has helped usher in numerous exciting opportunities and fame, he makes sure people know where it all started for him. "I told them, 'Do not say I live in Boston. I want you to say I'm from Omaha, Nebraska.' Because it's true and important, a lot of gifted talent has come from our city. Being a voice for that on a national level is an honor. But it's even more of an honor when you can come back and people recognize what you're doing and are proud of you," he shared. With a fresh single out, a full-length album and several exciting shows on the horizon, DREION is stepping into his moment and inviting us along for his journey. "It's a great opportunity to be able to come back, see people that have been supporting me, welcome people that may not know who I am, but are proud that I am from the same city that they are and want to support me, and then also be a difference maker in the community here, even though I'm not necessarily based here," he shared. He also looks forward to the opportunities his growing platform could bring to Omaha and foster care youth. Music at Miller Park is free and family-friendly. The lawn opens at 5 p.m. with DREION's performance starting at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28. 'I need a break': Country star taking time to ‘figure out what's next'

Kelsea Ballerini is manifesting a chill summer. After wrapping up her first arena tour and finishing her first season as a judge on 'The Voice,' the country music star wants to take some time to relax and regroup. 'I need a break, and I've never been able to say that before, but I really think that it's time for me to just pump the brakes, figure out what's next, take the time to just have a summer,' Ballerini said during her recent interview on 'Today with Jenna and Friends.' 'Every time I say I have time off, something happens,' the platinum-selling singer joked. 'But I'm very open to whatever is out there.' Ballerini hopes her summer itinerary includes going to the beach, learning to cook a new meal and spending time with her dogs, Dibs and Milo. Aside from a performance this Friday at the CMA Fest, Ballerini doesn't appear to have any upcoming performances or appearances scheduled, according to her website. This year has been a particularly eventful year for the 'Peter Pan' singer. Her tour, which ran from January to April, supported her fifth studio album, 'Patterns,' which she released in October. In March, Ballerini released a deluxe edition of 'Patterns,' which featured five additional songs. She also signed on for her first season as a judge on 'The Voice,' which wrapped last month. During her 'Today' appearance, she explained that it was a completely different experience than what she was used to. 'It's been such a beautiful season of doing things that are out of my comfort zone and bigger than I've ever done, and it's been really fulfilling. I love being in that seat,' she said. As for whether she'd ever return to 'The Voice,' Ballerini said, 'Never say never. I think it's all about timing.' BRIT Awards 2026 to Be Held Outside London for First Time

The BRIT Awards will move to Manchester in 2026 and 2027, marking the first time the ceremony has taken place outside of London in its nearly-50 year history. Co-op Live, the venue operated by Oak View Group, will host the event on Feb. 28, 2026 and be broadcast live on ITV 1 and ITV X; 2027's date is yet to be confirmed. The BRITs has been held at various venues in the capital including Earl's Court (1996-2011), Alexandra Palace (1993-1995) and The Grosvenor Hotel (1982-1987). The first event in 1977 was held at the Wembley Conference Centre, and the BRITs became a yearly occurrence from 1982 onwards; the 2021 event was the first major event to take place in the U.K. following the outbreak of the COVID pandemic a year prior. 2026 marks the first event of the three-year stewardship under Sony Music U.K.; stewardship rotates between the three major labels, with the BRIT Committee overseeing the show's creative direction. Damian Christian, the managing director and president of promotions at Atlantic Records, a Warner Music subsidiary, served as the chair of the BRIT Committee from 2022-2025. 'Moving to Manchester, the home of some of the most iconic and defining artists of our lifetime, will invigorate the show and build on the BRITs legacy of celebrating and reinvesting in world-class music,' says Jason Isley MBE, chairman and CEO, Sony Music U.K. & Ireland. 'Hosting the show in Manchester, with its vibrant cultural history, perfectly captures the spirit and energy of the BRIT Awards. I can't wait to see the show at the amazing state-of-the art Co-op Live venue.' Despite a beleaguered opening which saw delays and cancellation of shows in April 2024, the Co-op Live has since established itself as a key player in the U.K. live music scene. In 2024, the venue hosted the MTV EMAs, and 2025's live slate includes Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler, The Creator and more. The venue's 23,500 capacity makes it the largest indoor arena in Europe. Tim Leiweke, co-founder and CEO of Oak View Group said: 'The BRITs are the most important music event in the UK and were always the highlight of the year, not only because of its immense cultural contribution, but because of their commitment to improving the lives of youth through music. It is our honour to partner with our friends at BPI and Sony Music, alongside the great city of Manchester, to host the BRITs at Co-op Live and join in their mission to create opportunities for youth through music.' The BRIT Awards regularly pulls big name performers, with 2025's ceremony boasting live performances by Sabrina Carpenter, Lola Young, Teddy Swims and Sam Fender. Charli XCX, meanwhile, collected five awards on the night, including album of the year. The move follows the relocation of the MOBO Awards in recent years to Coventry (2021) and Sheffield (2024), and the Mercury Prize which is set to be hosted in Newcastle's Utilita Arena in September 2025.
