Kaladan project between India, Myanmar to be operational by 2027: Sonowal
Addressing a press conference in Guwahatu, Mr. Sonowal said the distance between Aizawl and Kolkata will be shortened by 700 km once the project is ready.
"The Sittwe port [in Myanmar] is ready. Now work is going on to develop the road connectivity to Aizawl. The entire Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project will be operational by 2027," he added.
Mr. Sonowal, the minister of ports, shipping and waterways, said that his ministry is investing ₹1,000 crore in developing the waterways of the project, while other agencies are taking care of the rest.
He said that the Northeastern region will play a critical role in reviving the economic prosperity of India.
"PM Narendra Modi said that transformation should be done through transportation. As per his direction, we want to develop Northeast as the business hub of South Asia. For that, waterways will play a crucial role," Mr. Sonowal said.
The Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport project was jointly identified by the two countries to create a multi-modal mode of transport for the shipment of cargo from the eastern ports of India to Myanmar, as well as to the Northeast, through the southeast Asian country.

CM announces police recruitment board, vows to end Naxalism by 2026
Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Friday announced the formation of the Madhya Pradesh Police Recruitment Board to speed up hiring and make the process more transparent. At present, such recruitments are carried out through the Staff Selection Board, Bhopal, that he said often takes longer than needed. Besides, he announced that widows and children of martyrs from the police, jail, and civic security depts would be given a reservation in an additional seat in all undergraduate courses under various priority categories. Additionally, deputy superintendents of police and above, along with security personnel deployed on VVIP duty, will receive special and risk allowances under the Sixth Pay Commission. Take steps to ease tariff pain of exporters, CM urges PM
Chennai: In the wake of the US imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, chief minister M K Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to introduce special financial relief measures for exporters. In a letter to Modi, Stalin said, "To provide immediate relief, Union govt needs to consider introducing a special interest subvention scheme for all exporters affected by tariffs to improve liquidity and reduce cost burdens and accelerate Free Trade Agreements and bilateral arrangements to offset high-tariff market risks." Considering the scale of the problem, a special financial relief package including a moratorium on principal repayment, similar to the one implemented during COVID is necessary to support exporters, Stalin said. HC dismisses plea to include Tamil as subject in KVs
Madurai: Madras high court has dismissed a petition seeking a direction to include Tamil as a subject from Class I to XII in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools across the state. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed in 2020 by Ponkumar seeking a direction to amend Article 112 of the 'Education Code for Kendriya Vidyalayas' for this purpose. The petitioner also sought a direction to appoint Tamil teachers on a permanent basis in Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state. A division bench of Justice S M Subramaniam and Justice A D Maria Clete observed that prescription of syllabus is a decision to be taken by the academic council, and to be approved by the Union ministry of education. The court cannot issue any direction to interfere with the syllabus approved by the Centre or classes incorporated in the Education Code, more specifically, for Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, the judges observed and dismissed the petition.
