Cincinnati native Sam Hubbard retiring from football after 7 seasons with the hometown Bengals

CINCINNATI (AP) — Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard announced his retirement on Wednesday.
The Cincinnati native spent seven seasons with the Bengals, who drafted him in the third round of the 2018 draft. Hubbard had 38 1/2 sacks in 104 games while helping Cincinnati return to prominence, including a berth in the Super Bowl following the 2021 season.
Hubbard, known locally as 'The Cincinnati Kid,' tore a ligament in his knee while making a leaping touchdown catch against Tennessee last December, missing the Bengals' final three games.
'In my heart, I know that I gave this game, this team, and this city everything that I had,' the 29-year-old Hubbard wrote on Instagram. 'That is why today, with great pride, I am announcing that I am moving on from my playing career in the NFL and entering the next chapter of my life.'
Hubbard delivered a handful of moments that will live on in Bengals lore. His fourth-quarter scoop-and-score against Baltimore in the first round of the 2022 playoffs lifted Cincinnati to victory.
Against the heavily favored Chiefs in the AFC championship game in January 2022, Hubbard sacked Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes twice late in regulation to force overtime. The Bengals won in the extra period to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in more than 30 years.
'From a draft pick to a starter, a 4x captain, and a guy who made a few plays along the way, we accomplished things that will never be forgotten,' Hubbard wrote.
A two-time Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee, Hubbard plans to spend more time on his eponymous foundation, which focuses on bringing 'equitable access to food, education, and a healthy lifestyle for all Cincinnatians' according to its web site.
'To play my entire career in one uniform is incredibly special to me, and I am a Bengal for life, always have been and always will be,' he wrote.

Associated Press DENVER (AP) — When he re-signed with the New York Mets last winter, Pete Alonso saw an opportunity to become the team's career leader in home runs and multihomer games. Juan Soto had three hits and walked three times to reach base in all six plate appearances. He became the first New York player to accomplish that feat since Alonso on Aug. 15, 2019, at Atlanta. 'It's not easy to do at the big league level,' Mendoza said. 'You get six times at the plate and you find a way to get on base. Finally getting results, but I feel the at-bat quality has been there.' Alonso's path toward becoming the Mets' career home run leader began when he set the major league record for rookies with 53 in 2019. He has hit at least 34 homers in each of his five full big league seasons and is on pace for 41 this year. 'Pete's been pretty incredible this year. Jalen Ramsey skipping start of Dolphins minicamp with trade talks simmering
Jalen Ramsey will not be at the Dolphins' minicamp when it opens this week as the two sides continue to search for a trade for the cornerback. The player and team mutually agreed to part ways back in April, but so far, a trade hasn't materialized and it has led to Ramsey opting not to attend mandatory minicamp this week, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday. Report: Former Browns star running back to visit new team
HOUSTON, Texas (WKBN) – NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is expected to sign a free agent deal with the Houston Texans, if all goes well with his physical on Monday. Chubb, who suffered a season-ending broken foot in Sunday's loss to Kansas City, appeared in eight games last season. He rushed for 332 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. The four-time Pro Bowler was originally selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In seven seasons in the NFL, Chubb has piled up 6,843 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns.
