This initiative highlights the power of public and private partnerships and will bring CA$1B foreign investment into Canada, further strengthening U.K.-Canadian business ties.
The Brampton project is one of the largest zero-emission bus (ZEB) programs in North America, offering substantial environmental and social benefits. ZEBs reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve local air quality and decrease noise pollution — all of which contribute to healthier, cleaner communities.
The partnership intends to bring 1,000 electric buses to the roads and replace the city's existing diesel vehicles. It will initially support current routes and ridership numbers of more than 40 million passengers annually, with the first phase of the project's infrastructure is expected to go live in early 2027.
As part of this partnership, Brampton will procure electric buses from Canadian suppliers, with planning and design, software, supply chain relationships and capital markets expertise provided by the Zenobē team. The initiative also includes comprehensive technical experience and expertise from the U.K. and dedicated electrical and civil engineering teams on the ground in Brampton.
Hon. Fouzia Younis, U.K.'s Consul-General to Ontario, announced: "This landmark partnership between Zenobē and the City of Brampton is a powerful example of how U.K.-Canada collaboration can deliver real-world solutions to global challenges. It showcases the U.K.'s leadership in clean transport and infrastructure, while creating skilled jobs and driving innovation on both sides of the Atlantic. I am thrilled to see British expertise helping to shape a more sustainable future for one of Canada's fastest-growing cities, and we look forward to this project serving as a model for future international cooperation."
Steven Meersman, Co-Founder and Director, Zenobē, commented: "We bring considerable experience working with local and federal public sector partners to enable and accelerate their transition to electric fleets. Our customized match-funding options, combined with the experience from delivering over 120 electric depots globally, lowers costs and de-risks the inevitable path to zero-emission fleets. We are delighted to grow our presence in Canada, and with Brampton, as we jointly achieve their financial and ecological objectives. We expect this will serve as a model for other projects currently under development."
Hon. Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, Member of Parliament, Brampton East noted: "The U.K. is one of our oldest and closest trading partners and I am very excited that our relationship will deepen even more through the investment partnership between the City of Brampton and Zenobē. As Canada continues our efforts on trade diversification, this investment by U.K. partners is great news for our economy, creating thousands of jobs."
Brampton Mayor, Patrick Brown, stated: "This historic investment marks a turning point for Brampton and for public transit across Canada. By transitioning to a fully electric bus fleet, we're not only reducing emissions — we're creating jobs, improving air quality, and building a cleaner, healthier future for our residents. Brampton is proud to lead one of North America's largest zero-emission transit projects, and we are grateful to our partners in the U.K. and Canada for helping make this bold vision a reality."
Heidi Dempster, General Manager, Transit, City of Brampton, remarked: "With one of the largest zero-emission bus programs in North America, Brampton is setting a new standard for sustainable, modern public transit. Beyond reducing emissions and improving air quality for our residents, this partnership will also drive local economic growth, creating thousands of jobs and building expertise right here in Brampton. We're proud to work alongside Zenobē and all partners as we deliver on Council's vision for a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient future for one of Canada's fastest-growing communities."
Founded in 2017, Zenobē has helped transform the public transport sector by introducing largescale fleet electrification backed by innovative debt financing and leading expertise in optimising operations. Today, it supports over 2,000 electric vehicles in the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. This announcement solidifies Zenobē's position as a global leader in heavy-duty fleet electrification. Zenobē provides end-to-end electrification solutions to public and commercial fleet operators, including financing, charging infrastructure and a battery managed service.
Zenobē's joint majority shareholders are KKR and M&G Infracapital, who provided £870 million (CA$1.6 billion) of equity in 2023 for global investment into electric vehicles and grid-scale batteries.

Investor Confidence Holds Steady in Canada's Multi-Suite Residential and Commercial Real Estate Markets in Q2 2025: Morguard

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 13, 2025 /CNW/ - Investor confidence in Canada's multi-suite residential rental properties remained strong in the second quarter with demand continuing to outpace supply. Industrial and office asset classes showed resiliency despite ongoing global trade tensions and economic uncertainty, according to Morguard's 2025 Economic Outlook and Market Fundamentals Second Quarter Update ("Morguard") (TSX: MRC). "Canada's real estate market continues to be supported by solid fundamentals that foster long-term optimism and growth," said Angela Sahi, President and Chief Operating Officer of Morguard. "Even amid market volatility, investor interest in high-quality industrial and office properties remains strong." Multi-Suite Residential Real Estate Multi-suite residential rental transaction volume rose in the second quarter after a slower start to the year. A total of $812.0 million in transaction volume was reported, marking a 39.4% increase quarter-over-quarter. Investor sentiment remained positive, driven by the asset class's healthy medium- to long-term fundamentals and its proven ability to perform during periods of economic softness. While rental demand is expected to moderate in the coming quarters, partly due to lower immigration and temporary worker targets and increased first-time homebuyer activity, asking rents are projected to climb through next year as newly constructed supply enters the market. Commercial Real Estate High-quality industrial opportunities, such as logistics and warehouse properties, remained highly attractive to investors. Approximately half of the industrial properties sold were purchased by users, many of whom opted to buy space instead of paying elevated lease rates. Private capital groups also remained active by targeting acquisition opportunities in a less competitive market. The Canadian office leasing market remained relatively stable in the second quarter. Trophy assets remained popular among tenants seeking highly-amenitized spaces in core locations. Office rents were also relatively stable with modest upward pressure reported for space in trophy buildings. Retail investment activity moderated in the second quarter following a strong start to the year. Several large transactions were completed earlier in 2025, and sales of retail properties have remained surprisingly brisk over the past year. Economic Factors Canada's economy showed signs of cooling in the second quarter, following a stronger-than-expected performance earlier in 2025. Trade disruptions and tariff pressures weighed on job creation, consumer spending, and business investment. Despite these headwinds, core inflation remained largely under control. Looking ahead, the Bank of Canada will face the challenge of balancing support for economic growth with its mandate to maintain price stability. "While global economic conditions continue to evolve, the Canadian real estate market is showing encouraging signs of stability," said Keith Reading, Senior Director, Research at Morguard. "With balanced fundamentals and continued investor interest in core sectors, the outlook for the second half of 2025 remains positive." Released today by Morguard, the 2025 Canadian Economic Outlook and Market Fundamentals Second Quarter Update provides a comprehensive breakdown of the real estate investment trends and outlook to watch in Canada. The full report is available at Investor interest in multi-suite residential rental assets remained strong, supported by healthy fundamentals. Office leasing market conditions stabilized, with demand focused on high-quality and amenity-rich buildings. Industrial availability rose with the delivery of new supply while user and investor interest in space for logistics remained firm. The Bank of Canada will need to strike a balance between supporting economic growth and maintaining inflation stability amid ongoing trade uncertainty. Create Account Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu and Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald issued a joint statement late Tuesday responding to China's announcement of a 75.8% preliminary anti-dumping duty on canola seed from Canada. The new levy follows Beijing's imposition earlier this year of a 100% tariff on canola oil and meal from the North American nation. 'We do not dump canola. Our hard-working farmers provide world-class food to Canadians and international trading partners,' Sidhu and MacDonald said. 'Canada is committed to ensuring fair market access for our canola industry and we remain ready to engage in constructive dialogue with Chinese officials to address our respective trade concerns.' While China remains Canada's largest export market for canola after the US, exports of the crop to other regions, including the European Union, United Arab Emirates, Japan and Mexico, have increased in 2025, the ministers said. 'We are steadfast in our commitment to defend and diversify Canadian trade,' they said. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Canola meal prices in China — where the commodity is known as rapeseed — jumped following the announcement of the new duty. Canola futures in New York climbed as much as 1.7% on Wednesday, after dropping 4.5% in the previous session. China began imposing levies on Canadian canola products earlier this year in retaliation for Canadian tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, steel and aluminum. The Asian superpower previously restricted imports of Canadian canola in 2019, amid the feud over Canada's arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou on a US extradition warrant. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who won election this year on promises to fight the trade war with the US and diversify Canada's export markets, appeared to open the door to a thaw in relations with China in a call with Premier Li Qiang in June. The two agreed to work together on the fentanyl crisis, and Carney raised trade concerns, including on canola. Provincial leaders in Canada have urged Carney to repair trade relations with China, particularly as US tariffs impede Canada's access to the world's largest economy, where it sent 75% of its exports last year. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, whose province is Canada's top canola producer, has said the country must reset its relationship with China.
