Domino Park will host an outdoor performing arts series next month—and it's free!
Domino Park is serving more than just waterfront views next month. From June 4 to 28, the Brooklyn greenspace will debut Sugar, Sugar!, a brand-new outdoor performing arts series packed with experimental theater, live music, dance, puppetry and joyful weirdness—and yes, it's totally free.
Set against that stunning skyline backdrop, the month-long series is kicking off with performances by Nile Harris and dance duo Lena Engelstein & Lisa Fagan, followed by a kaleidoscopic parade of programming including drag-augmented puppetry (Evan Silver a.k.a. Tiresias), a celebration of horseshoe crabs and 'crabaoke' (Eli Nixon), and a live jazz-meets-minimal-electronics set curated by National Sawdust featuring Isaiah Barr, David Frazier Jr. and William Parker.
Organized by Public Assembly with creative direction by Ellpetha Tsivicos of One Whale's Tale, Sugar, Sugar! is the first cultural program staged at the brand-new Domino Square amphitheater. The space, just a short stroll through the five-acre waterfront park, is already a favorite for salsa nights and school graduations. Now, it's getting a full-on arts glow-up.
And the series isn't just throwing performances at a park—it's curating a vibe. Each night begins with Capicu! hosting dominos, DJs and dancing, and ends with something magical. Case in point: the two-night immersive spectacular QUINCE, which fuses a quinceañera, family drama and queer identity into a theatrical party with food, music and dancing under the stars.
A special Juneteenth performance from Troy Anthony & The Fire Ensemble promises an emotional high point, using nonreligious rituals and music to honor Black liberation and joy.
Expect a playful, participatory energy throughout, from time-traveling dance to foam-sculpted puppets made from salvaged materials. The festival closes on June 28 with a daytime blowout plaza party featuring live music, local food vendors, domino tournaments and family-friendly art activities.

Huge ITV show in chaos as host quits and EastEnders star joins line-up
ITV and production company TriForce Productions have announced this week that Jimmy Akingbola will be replaced by Chizzy Akudolu as the host of Sorry, I Didn't Know ITV has announced a change to the line-up of a panel show that is set to film another series later this year. It's been revealed this week that the host won't be returning and that a former soap star will be joining the on-screen teams. Sorry, I Didn't Know, described as the first ever quiz show centred around Black history, launched as a pilot on ITV2 in 2016, before its first series aired in 2020. It returned for its fifth series last year, and it has now been renewed once again. The show had been hosted by Jimmy Akingbola, 47, who is also an executive producer, since it began. His former Holby City co-star Chizzy Akudolu, 51, had been a team captain, with her having appeared in her role since the pilot episode too. It's been announced that Jimmy won't host the upcoming sixth series of Sorry, I Didn't Know, though. His departure from the role is attributed to filming commitments in the US for the final season of Peacock 's Bel-Air. Chizzy will instead take over as host for the upcoming series, as announced this week. It's teased that she will be "hoping to keep a tight rein" of returning team captain Eddie Kadi, 42, and her own replacement on the panel show. It's been announced Richard Blackwood, 53, will replace Chizzy as a team captain in the new series. The actor, who is known for roles like playing Vincent Hubbard on EastEnders, has previously appeared as a guest on the show. The news about the sixth series, set to be filmed over the summer, has been announced by ITV and production company TriForce Productions. It's been said that the renewal means Sorry, I Didn't Know has broken its own record for the longest-running show from a Black-led production company. Executive producer for TriForce, Fraser Ayres said: "Chizzy has been part of the SIDK family since our pilot in 2016 and was amazing when she hosted an episode last series, so it's great to see her in the hosting seat. And in Richard we have the perfect sparring partner for Eddie. "They're long-time friends and he has already shown he's a brilliant and hilarious guest, so we are thrilled he will be joining the team on the regular. Chizzy will have her work cut out keeping them both in line but we have full faith in her to keep things on track and with her particular brand of chaos in the mix as well, what could possibly go wrong?!" Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment & Daytime Commissioning at ITV, added: "Sorry, I Didn't Know is infectiously funny and that is testament to the series returning for an impressive sixth series. This season, Chizzy is stepping into Jimmy's hot seat, and I can't wait to see her take the helm." Richard will be the latest team captain on the panel. Jo Martin had been one of the team captains for the pilot, with Judi Love then taking over from her in the first two series. Eddie has been in the role since the third series in 2022. The team captains oversee a panel of guests each episode who have their knowledge tested. Guests in the last series of Sorry, I Didn't Know included Bridgerton 's Adjoa Andoh and comedian Munya Chawawa.

BBC presenter slams corporation after quitting post and says 'nothing changed'
BBC presenter Nihal Arthanayake has accused the corporation of lacking diversity as he complained how 'not a damn thing has changed' BBC presenter Nihal Arthanayake hit out at the corporation for the lack of diversity in the workplace in an honest post shared on Instagram. The 54-year-old, who said he is leaving his job in September, said he 'called out' BBC North for the lack of Black and Asian staff working for them almost two years ago. However, he noticed how "not a damn thing changed". In a clip shared with fans, he said from his car: "Today I walked into the BBC building in Salford and I was struck yet again, not for the first time, just how few Black and Asian people work in that building and one thing people have to understand is when you walk into an environment where you just don't see anybody that looks like you. That has an effect and since I called them out on it, well over a year and a half ago it seems like ain't a damn thing changed." I remember speaking to some of the black and asian people who worked there and I kept hearing how isolating it was for them (not all obviously). "It just struck me again today. It also reminded why I will be leaving in September. Have pondered whether to press 'share' on this, but as I am leaving anyway..." A spokesperson for the BBC said: "We're sorry if anyone feels this way, as creating an inclusive culture where everyone feels they belong is a big priority for us and we know we have further to go. Whilst we're proud of the diversity of the BBC, we remain committed to continuing to build a workforce that fully reflects and represents the whole of the UK.' Last year, the proportions of all employees from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds was at 17.2%, an increase for the BBC. They are also focusing on reaching their goal of 20% Black, Asian and minority ethnic staff by March next year. Meanwhile, fans took to the comment section to share their support for the presenter, with one person writing: "100% agree… seeing is believing. "If organisations took the time to create environments where everyone felt welcome and could bring their trueselves, you'd wonder what amazing things they could achieve." Another said: "Diversity and inclusion isn't something we should need to fight for. But yet here we are, bored of telling the white man at the top." In May 2024, Nihal announced he was quitting his daytime show on BBC Radio 5 Live. He had worked for the BBC since 2002 where he first joined as a BBC Radio 1 co-host on the Asian Beats show. He then became a weekend breakfast show host on the radio channel in 2007 before being moved to a weekend afternoon slot the following year. Nihal began hosting BBC Radio 1's Review With Nihal in 2009 - while also hosting shows on the Asian Network from 2007. He left BBC Radio 1 in 2014 and began carving out a successful career on the airwaves from 2016 by helming discussion shows and panels. The star then joined 5 Live in 2016 and helmed the afternoon slot on the show that hit the air from 1pm until 4pm from Monday to Thursday.
