Derry Girls fans only just discovering who Saoirse-Monica Jackson's famous mother-in-law is
It was a joining of two modern day Celtic legends when Scots DJ Denis Sulta married Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson recently. The loved up pair said 'I Do' at an achingly hip three-day Irish extravaganza just outside Kenmare in Co Kerry last week.
The ceremony was hailed as 'iconic' by fans of the super stylish couple and included more than a few nods to Scotland. It featured a host of Irish music, an Irish storyteller, Guinness on tap, as well as tributes to Denis' own heritage, including his on point, traditional kilt with a Hebridean MacKenzie tartan, made by Glasgow firm MacGregor and MacDuff.
His outfit featured a custom-made Montrose doublet jacket, topped off with his dad's own sporran and a family brooch. The groom - real name Hector Barbour - took to Instagram today to say he feels like the 'luckiest man on the planet' as he gets to grip with married life following his epic soiree.
The Glasgow-born DJ, 32, said: 'I married the woman of my dreams and it was the most glorious weekend of my life.Words are hard to find for just how magical the whole thing was and just how beautiful @saoirsemonicajackson looked.
"Seeing Saoirse walking down that aisle with all the people we love right there with us was without a doubt the happiest moment of my life so far. Nothing even comes close.
"I couldn't be more proud of our darling family and friends and [I] am just so unbelievably buzzing from all the love and laughter over the weekend.
"Thank you so much for all the gorgeous well wishes and all of the people that made such an incredible effort to be there and make it so special for us. I truly am the luckiest man on the planet.'
Saoirse, 31, sported a reversible tartan dress as she headed down the aisle with her dad. She made the walk accompanied by the sounds of Dreams by The Cranberries, in a sweet tribute to Derry Girls, as well as with co-star Jamie-Lee O'Donnell as one of her bridesmaids.
Followers were left bowled over by the fashionable celebration as the actress and her new husband shared a raft of stunning pics that captured their day across their own accounts, and Vogue magazine, which has profiled the event in the latest issue, thanks to Story of Eve.
Sulta is already well known to fans of dance music, having graced the covers of coveted industry titles Mixmag and DJ Mag, as well as being crowned DJ Mag's Best DJ in their 'Best of British' awards series.
He's also featured on BBC Radio 1's Residency show and booked spots at legendary clubs worldwide including Manchester's Warehouse Project, Space Miami, and Panorama Bar in Berlin.
Derry Girls fans too have welcomed the Glasgow-born producer into their fold after his 2022 appearance in the final episode of the much-loved show. He had a cameo as a bouncer who chucked Erin, Saoirse's character, and the gang out of a Halloween party.
But some diehards of the Channel 4 sitcom are only just discovering why the Scot is so familiar to them, even if they've never picked up a Mixmag, as he bears a striking resemblance to his mum, who is none other than Scots showbiz icon Muriel Gray.
A former presenter of Channel 4's The Tube, the first female rector of the University of Edinburgh, and former host of legendary 1980s TV series The Munro Show, she's a very well-kent face to most Scots.
Grey, 66, married television producer Hamish Barbour in 1991 and the couple have three children, including Sulta, who they welcomed in 1993.
Fans took to the comments of This Is Our City star Saoirse's social media updates about the big day to express their delight at finding out who her very famous mother-in-law is.
One said: "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait…..Muriel Gray is your mother in law? ICONIC." Another said: "That's why he looks so familiar to me!" A third chimed in: "I had no idea your mum in law is Muriel Gray - a Scottish legend.
While a fourth said: "Wow. Just when I thought my admiration for Saoirse could not get any higher. I see her beautiful mother and that her mother in law is the beautiful and talented Muriel. The genes. The genes."
After posting her own celebratory snaps after the event, some of Muriel's fans were shocked to discover who her son and famous new daughter-in-law were.
Giving a shout out to the Scottish designer behind her incredible Scottish inspired outfit, she said: "Our gorgeous big grown up married boy. We're from Scotland. Did you guess? Thanks to @joyceyoungcollections for being such a mensch as well as a brilliant Scottish designer."
One fan replied: "That explains everything! What a fabulous wedding that looked. Everyone appeared so incredibly happy and all the wedding outfits were." Another said: "Oh wow, royalty! Please no more surprises, I can't cope!"
One said: "Aw I thought he looked familiar but couldn't place him!! What a fantastic wedding." Another added: "OMG Had no idea that boy was your boy!!! So obvious now! Looked like the best day." Another said: "Muriel Gray is his Mammy? I grew up with Muriel explaining fashion on a Sunday to us."

Yes, Cardiff or as they say in Cardiff 'Cehdiff'. But actually I was born in Treforest a suburb of Pontypridd, which is only 12 miles down the road." Though Tom hasn't lived in Wales for many years, since his career went stratospheric in the 1960s and he travelled the world and had residencies in Las Vegas and a home in LA, he still sounds like he's walked Taff Street in Ponty daily for decades. The proud Welsh man put paid to the doubters and said: ""It always feels fantastic to be back in Wales. People tell me, but you don't live in Wales do you?" He explained: "But Wales lives in me." Tim Minchin: 'Mum's death was gutting as she'll never see my kids grow up'
Comedian and singer-songwriter Tim Minchin opens up about his family, the loss of his beloved mum Ros to blood cancer, and why he never reads his own reviews It's been 20 years since Australian comedian Tim Minchin first registered on British radars with his award-winning Edinburgh show Darkside, a mix of comedy songs, political jokes and poignant, witty reflections on his own life, all played barefoot at his piano. Since then the Northampton-born musician has written and starred in the Netflix drama Upright, released six albums of his work and created the critically acclaimed musical Matilda - inspired by the Roald Dahl book - which, in 2025, celebrates 15 years of West End success. It has won seven Olivier awards and four Tonys and is about to start a second UK and Ireland tour with a new cast. Now about to turn 50, and having re-recorded an album of his old songs, Tim is in a reflective mood. While he is tired after finishing a 33-gig UK tour this summer, he feels happier than ever getting to do what he loves. But the last two years have had challenges. Tim lost his mum Ros in 2023 after a three-year battle with blood cancer. He performed in Sydney hours after she died, having spent as much time with her as he could in her final months. "I'm a deeply pragmatic person, I'm quite emotionally intelligent and I'm a reasonable observer of both my own and other people's emotions, so your mum dies, and that's like one of the rules," he says. "If you're lucky, she goes before you. If she dies at 74 like mine, we're lucky to have had her that long. "But sometimes I feel like she's missing all of this, as she would have loved to see her grandkids getting older. " He laughingly describes his children, Violet and Caspar as "pretty different and cats, my kids". The teenagers, who he shares with childhood sweetheart Sarah, feature in some of his songs - Lullaby, which he wrote when Violet was a sleep-dodging baby, carries the immortal line, 'When is rocking rocking, and when is it shaking?' "We really struggled with her. She liked being rocked, but it was like, 'is this alright? I'm throwing this kid around,'" he laughs. Family is so important to Tim, who lives with wife Sarah in Sydney when he's not travelling. His dad David came to the UK for Tim's recent tour and the Minchins have a novel way of keeping in touch: by reporting their daily exercise to each other. "Although Dad's been grieving, he's also been like, well, I don't have long, I'd better travel," says Tim. "We're very close, my family, my three siblings and me. We are all talking, all the time." When he's not writing new lyrics or recording - his new album TimMinchinTimeMachine is a look back at 20 years' worth of his favourite songs - Tim stays off social media and 24-hour news. "I was on Twitter in the early days, and I think once some troll said something, and I slapped them down," he recalls. "And all my fans piled on this person and I just went, 'I will never do that again'. "I can't believe that in 2025, people still set their dogs on each other. After Trump and Brexit happened, I got out of Twitter, I just went, 'this is horrible, toxic'. Now I'm off everything. I had to go cold turkey, I was completely addicted." In his free time, Tim reads books and checks the news every three days or so to keep away from the dreaded doomscrolling. "It's this perpetual humankind panic, as if none of this stuff's ever happened before. I can't be happy and have all that stuff [in my head]. Now I'm trying to teach my kids the same thing," he says. The same mentality extends to his critics - he refuses to read reviews of shows, knowing a single criticism would make him spiral. "I'm just too fragile. And I'm not ashamed of that - you have to be, to do what I do. You have to be open-hearted," he says. "I have confidence in my work now. A long time ago I thought, 'who do I listen to? I'm not like anyone else.' [Anything I read about myself ] is in my head the next day when I go on stage. And that's just no good to me, because to do what I do requires a massive leap, almost like a suspension of disbelief. "The person that I am when I walk on stage is a person completely confident, to have up to 7,000 people hanging on my every word," he says. "And that is not who I always feel like. Sometimes it feels impossible."
