Memorial for former Rajya Sabha member Kollur Mallappa in Yadgir to be fulfilled soon
On earlier occasions, veteran politician and Rajya Sabha MP M. Mallikarjun Kharge, who has great admiration for Mallappa for his selfless service to the people over several decades, had appealed to the Chief Minister to build a memorial for Mallappa.
However, the proposed memorial work was somehow delayed.
Meanwhile, Minister for Small Scale Industries and district in-charge Sharanabasappa Darshanapur met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and requested him to grant the required land free for the purpose.
The Chief Minister, who earmarked ₹2 crore for the memorial, showed concern over building the memorial for the late politician during the recent Cabinet meeting and sanctioned 2.17 acres of land free as requested by Mr. Darshanapur.
Mallappa was born to a Kuruba (Halumatha) community family in 1905 in Pogalapur village in Yadgir taluk. He developed patriotism from his childhood and met Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram in 1934. He was deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and joined the Congress then.
He also participated in the freedom movement against British rule and came in contact with Jawaharlal Nehru during Congress meeting at Mumbai in 1942 as he was the only politician from the Hyderabad Karnataka region to take part in that conference. He was known in the region for his fearless fight against Hyderabad Nizams and for that reason, he was jailed.
After Independence, Mallappa was elected as a legislator from the Surpur Assembly Constituency in Kalaburagi district to the Hyderabad State Assembly in 1952. He was again elected from the Sedam Assembly Constituency to the Mysore State Assembly in 1957, after reorganisation of States.
Mallappa shifted to Central politics after the former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi got him elected to the Rajya Sabha. He, then, was elected thrice in 1968, 1974 and 1984. He was associated with many prominent Congress leaders of that era.
Some of his followers say that Mallappa respectfully refused an offer given by Indira Gandhi to become Chief Minister of the State. Mallappa died in 2004, after a prolonged illness.
The people of Yadgir district have expressed gratitude to the State government, especially Mr. Siddaramaiah, for respecting the Hyderabad-Karnataka Gandhi by building a memorial for Mallappa.
Mr. Darshanapur, who wrote a letter to the Chief Minister and put pressure on the government to get sanctioned the required land for the memorial, has expressed his gratitude too.
'I will personally supervise the building of a memorial to make it a significant landmark in the district. I will take a delegation to meet the Chief Minister for an additional grant, if required, for the construction of a memorial,' the Minister added.
Meanwhile, MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur has thanked Mr. Siddaramaiah for his concern to building a memorial for Mallappa. 'His selfless service to the people is unparalleled. He remains a model for all politicians,' Mr. Tunnur said.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has claimed that 'some political forces' have been impeding the growth of Hyderabad, which is being developed by the present government 'to compete with the world's top cities and not just Bengaluru and Chennai', and warned those 'enemies' that they would be dealt with swiftly and taught a 'befitting lesson'. 'One of the main objectives of the TelanganaRising 2047 is to position Hyderabad city to compete with Tokyo and New York." "Our goal is for Hyderabad to compete with the world's top cities, not just Bengaluru and Chennai", he emphasised. Revanth Reddy reiterated that the Musi riverfront would be developed by bringing Godavari river water to Musi and let it flow in the river for 365 days. The Chief Minister underlined that expansion and development of the city is the need of the hour to create more employment opportunities and livelihood options to the people. The Chief Minister, while referring to the Old City as 'the original city of Hyderabad', said that the Musi Rejuvenation Project will bring back the Old City's glory. Hyderabad City was recognized internationally and got big fame due to constant efforts made right from the time of the Quli Qutb Shahis to the present government. The Chief Minister recounted that former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was the brain behind the IT revolution in the country and that the erstwhile Congress government had laid the foundation for HI-TEC City in Hyderabad. Several global IT companies set up their firms in Hyderabad because of the foresight of the then chief ministers. CM Revanth Reddy said that the new registrar offices in Hyderabad will be built with advanced facilities providing 5 Star ambience. As many as 11 new registrar offices will be ready for operation by the Telangana Formation Day (June 2) next year. The integrated registrar offices, which generate huge revenues, will address all problems permanently. This state-of-the-art Integrated Sub Registrar and District Registrar Office at Gachibowli will house registration offices of Rangareddy, Gandipet, Serlingampalli and Rajendranagar. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy outlined the department's plans to develop integrated registration offices across the State in a phased manner. There are 39 sub registrar offices in the GHMC limits within the Outer Ring Road, which accounted for 63% of the revenue generated from registration. He said steps had been initiated to ensure that all these SROs in four districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy are shifted to 11 integrated registration offices.

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday alleged that the Congress leaders were black marketing urea, creating shortage in the market. The BRS leader said that their party would support the vice presidential candidate of whichever party brings 2 lakh metric tonnes of the fertilizer in the state. Addressing a press conference here at his residence in Nandinagar, Rama Rao alleged that fertilizer stocks were being diverted and sold in the black market by Congress leaders, while lakhs of farmers were forced to queue up for hours across the State. 'For the first time in Telangana's history, women farmers are spending nights outside depots, farmers are leaving shoes and Aadhaar cards in queues to save their place, and in some cases even facing police cases for demanding fertilizer. This humiliation never happened in KCR's 10-year rule,' he said. The BRS leader demanded that the State government release a White Paper detailing the quantum of fertilizer supplied by the Centre, stock position in warehouses, actual distribution to farmers, and quantities diverted or missing. He also urged the Centre to order a comprehensive investigation and take strict action against those responsible. Replying to a question on the support to vice president candidate, Rao declared that BRS would extend support only to the party that ensures supply of 2 lakh metric tonnes of urea before September 9. 'No alliance has approached us yet. But our decision will be taken solely in the interest of Telangana farmers. If the Congress CM nominates a candidate, we will oppose without hesitation,' he said. KTR reiterated that BRS was not aligned with NDA or INDI blocs. 'We are an independent party. We have no bosses in Delhi. The people of Telangana are our only bosses,' he said. KTR also accused the Congress of hypocrisy on social justice, pointing out that despite claiming affection for BCs, the party had not nominated a BC leader for the Vice Presidential post. 'If they were serious, they could have fielded intellectuals like Kancha Ilaiah or any eminent BC leader,' he remarked. The BRS working president slammed both Congress and BJP for failing Telangana. 'With eight Congress MPs and eight BJP MPs, Telangana has gained nothing. 8+8 has only meant zero benefit for our State,' he said. He criticised Rahul Gandhi for remaining silent on the fertilizer crisis despite his 'Rythu Declaration' promises. 'Rahul has not uttered a single word in Parliament while Telangana farmers are in distress. This exposes his double standards,' KTR said. Revanth Reddy's government, he added, had failed on every front including loan waiver, Rythu Bandhu, free power, procurement, bonus, crop insurance, and now fertilizer. 'Over 600 farmers have already committed suicide under this regime. Revanth visited Delhi 51 times but could not bring even 51 bags of urea for Telangana,' he remarked. Warning of an agitation if the crisis continues, KTR said BRS would soon announce a statewide protest programme from village to state level. 'Farmers should not lose hope. BRS will fight until this crisis is resolved. We will not allow the Congress government to ruin Telangana's farming progress,' he declared. Responding to the 'Marwari Go Back' campaign, Rao said that everyone had the right to do business anywhere in the country. He recalled that during 2014 the then Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said people who live in the state were children of Telangana. However, he said that those living here should also ensure they are humble towards the people here.

Bills for removal of PM, CMs, ministers tabled in Lok Sabha, sent to JPC
Amit Shah NEW DELHI: The ongoing acrimony between the opposition and the treasury, witnessed throughout the monsoon session of Parliament, reached a flashpoint in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday when Union home minister Amit Shah introduced the three bills that provide a legal framework for removing the Prime Minister, Union ministers, chief ministers, and ministers in states and Union territories arrested and detained on serious criminal charges. Shah said that the three legislations will be referred to a joint parliamentary committee for detailed scrutiny even as opposition MPs, essentially from Trinamool Congress and Congress, launched into aggressive protests and tore copies of the bills. They trooped into the well of the House, near Shah's front-row seat. Bill is in violation of presumption of innocence, says oppn in Lok Sabha Opposition MPs said the bills violated constitutional principles, undermined federalism, and inverted the principle of "innocent until proven guilty." They warned of potential misuse for political purposes and the risk of transforming India into a police state. Initially, only Trinamool MPs, led by Kalyan Banerjee, stormed the well. After Congress netas K C Venugopal and Manish Tewari spoke, Venugopal tore a copy of the bill, and Congress MPs joined TMC in protest. Shah rejected Premachandran's contention that the bills were brought in haste, saying they will be sent to a joint panel, where members of both Houses would get an opportunity to give their suggestions. The constitutional amendment bill requires two-thirds support in both Houses — a majority that the governing alliance currently lacks. One opposition MP twisted Shah's mic, while others continued throwing bits of paper at him, prompting treasury MPs to rush into the well. MPs from both sides stood face-to-face, exchanging threats, and even after the House was adjourned, opposition MPs continued shouting slogans. BJP MPs, including ministers Kiren Rijiju and Ravneet Bittu, moved to block opposition MPs from approaching Shah. The home minister, however, asked his colleagues to return to their seats. Congress MP Deepender Hooda also intervened, preventing opposition MPs from entering the aisle. Normalcy returned only after Shah and other ministers left the House as the opposition members jeered. When House resumed an hour later, the bills were referred to JPC, but proceedings occurred under tight security, with marshals present.
