Akasa Air to start Mumbai-Phuket flights from Sep 20

New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) Akasa Air will launch direct flights connecting Mumbai with Phuket from September 20 as the three-year-old airline expands its international network with the foray into Southeast Asia.
With a fleet of 30 planes, the airline currently flies to 23 domestic and 5 international destinations.
Starting September 20, 2025, Akasa Air will operate daily direct flights connecting Mumbai with Phuket (Thailand), a release said on Tuesday.
Phuket will be 6th overseas destination for the carrier, which started flying on August 7, 2022.
Presently, the airline flies to five overseas destinations — Doha (Qatar), Jeddah, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Kuwait City (Kuwait).
Last week, the airline said it will start flights to the SAARC and ASEAN regions in the next few years, in addition to leveraging the upcoming Navi Mumbai and Noida International Airports to develop a comprehensive network.
Eight countries, including India, are part of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Other countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) comprises 10 countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Cambodia. PTI RAM IAS SHW

The move comes amid the Trump administration's 50 percent tariff imposition on all goods India exports to the United States, so as to punish New Delhi for buying Russian oil. The tariffs are likely to impact $40 billion of non-exempt Indian exports such as gems and jewellery, textiles and footwear. Kerala agriculture growth doubles national average, says CM Vijayan
'In the last financial year, while the agricultural sector at the national level recorded a growth of 2.1 per cent, Kerala achieved a growth of 4.65 per cent. The Agriculture Department implemented several measures aimed at increasing farmers' income by 50 per cent. He was speaking while inaugurating an online state-level celebration of Farmers' Day and the distribution of state farmer awards. Thrissur (Kerala), Aug 17 (PTI) Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Sunday that Kerala's agricultural sector is on the path of growth and that the state has achieved more than double the national average growth. 'A short-term agricultural programme named Mission 2026 and a long-term plan called Mission 2033 have been highly supportive in this effort,' the chief minister said on the occasion of the Malayalam New Year, Chingam 1. The state has also been able to implement a comprehensive crop insurance scheme, Vijayan said. He noted that during this government's tenure, paddy productivity had increased to 3,108 kg per hectare, while coconut cultivation achieved 54 per cent growth through the Keragramam project. The procurement of coconuts rose from 6.28 lakh tonne to 17.20 lakh tonne, the CM added. Vijayan said climate change, market uncertainties and wild animal attacks were adversely affecting the agricultural sector. 'To counter climate change and bring changes in value-added production, the state is implementing the KERA Project with World Bank support at a cost of Rs 2,365 crore. The project will directly benefit four lakh farmers and indirectly benefit another 10 lakh farmers,' he said. The chief minister added that this was the first major World Bank-supported project for the agricultural sector in 40 years. Vijayan said the agricultural calendar should be adjusted in line with climate change, and the sector should move forward through constructive discussions and innovative farming practices. The government, he said, was looking into combining modern technologies as well. 'More than 150 agritech start-ups have been launched. The government is also making efforts to carry out effective interventions in the value-added products sector. Moving ahead with the goal of branding agricultural value-added products under the motto 'One Krishi Bhavan, One Value-Added Product', over 200 value-added products have been prepared for marketing,' he said. The chief minister said curbing the menace of wild animals was indeed essential. 'However, this cannot be fully achieved through the intervention of the state government alone. Timely amendments to central laws are required, and for this the state government is putting pressure on the Centre,' he said. In addition, special projects that can be implemented at the state level have also been designed. Air India cancels Milan-Delhi flight due to maintenance issue
Mumbai, Aug 17 (PTI) Tata Group-owned private carrier Air India on Sunday said it cancelled its Milan-Delhi flight of August 16 after detecting a maintenance issue at the last minute. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to their destination at the earliest, Air India said in a statement. "Flight AI138 operating from Milan to Delhi on August 16 was cancelled due to a maintenance task identified during pushback," the statement said. "Our ground team in Milan extended immediate assistance to all the affected passengers, providing hotel accommodation and offering full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling as opted by the passengers," it said. According to Air India, along with the maintenance issue, the operating crew of the flight come under the mandatory flight duty-time limitation norms. Air India generally operates its Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft fleet to cater to European destinations. The airline, which came under private hands in January 2022, has, of late, been delaying, cancelling some flights at the last minute due to technical and maintenance issues. This is despite airline CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson repeatedly claiming that Air India has carried out comprehensive checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft fleet. A Delhi-bound Air India flight from Bhubaneswar was cancelled just prior to its departure on August 3 due to high cabin temperature. On July 31, an Air India Boeing 787-9 aircraft flying to London had to abort take-off at Delhi airport and return to the bay due to a technical issue. In a message to the customers recently, while listing out the various steps taken after the fatal crash of an AI-171 flight to London soon after take-off from the Ahmedabad airport, Wilson said detailed inspections of its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft were done and "no issues were found during inspection".
