Meet actress, 49, who worked with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, went jobless for 8 years, now she rules the digital space, her name is...

Bollywood's timeless diva, who once lit up screens with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, confessed she faced an unexpected halt in her career. Despite delivering multiple hits, Sushmita Sen went through nearly 8 years without any role offers. A resurfaced clip from her old interview has left fans shocked, as she admitted she had to gather courage and directly call OTT platforms for work. The viral video is from her 2023 chat with Midday India, where the actress recalled the tough years that tested her patience and resilience. What did Sushmita say in her own words? Sushmita did not hide behind glamour or pretence. She revealed, 'Mera naam Sushmita Sen hai. Main actor hoon, hua karti thi waise. Aur main wapas aakar kaam karna chahti hoon. Mujhe madad ki zarurat hogi kyunki maine 8 saal kaam nahi kiya aur yeh bahut lamba waqt hai.' The actress further shared that during those 8 silent years, not a single filmmaker or platform approached her. 'Maine logon se kaam maanga, unhe phone kiya, taaki unhe pata chale ki main bhookhi hoon, mujhe kaam karna hai, main kaam maang rahi hoon,' she admitted. Did OTT platforms respond? Her honesty did not go unheard. After her calls, Netflix, Prime Video, and Hotstar heads invited her for meetings. These interactions eventually paved the way for her digital entry. In 2020, Sushmita made a resounding comeback with Disney+ Hotstar's hit web series Aarya. The show not only revived her career but also proved that she could still carry a project with unmatched screen presence. What was her last film before her comeback? Before stepping into the OTT space, Sushmita's last appearance on the big screen was in 2015 with the Bengali film Nirbaak. After that, she took a long pause, almost vanishing from the industry. With Aarya, the actress reclaimed her place in entertainment, and today, the viral clip has become a reminder of how even the brightest stars sometimes have to start from scratch.

New Town entertainment hub to house open-air concert arena, stadium gallery

Kolkata: Following chief minister Mamata Banerjee's announcement this May, the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) has unveiled the detailed plan and initiated the process to engage a reputable firm for an international information, technology, entertainment and cultural park in New Town on a public-private-partnership (PPP) model. The idea, officials said, is to make it a one-stop destination for social and cultural performances and activities. As of now, the centre is likely to be called 'Biswa Angan' in Bengali and is likely to be formally named the 'International Information Technology and Entertainment Park'. The plot was identified and cleared by the state cabinet earlier. As per the detailed plan, the centre, to be developed on 25 acres in Action Area II adjoining Eco Park, will include an open-air amphitheatre or concert arena with a 70,000 to 75,000 sitting and standing capacity, an indoor concert arena with a 20,000-25,000 sitting and standing capacity, and an open stepped stadium gallery with a sitting and standing capacity of 15,000-20,000 people. There will be art galleries, craft display spaces, a cultural museum, an interpretation centre along with ethnic cuisine pavilions, exhibition and souvenir shops, and green landscaping. There will also be food courts, artists' green rooms, and rehearsal rooms with all modern facilities. The objective of developing the park, as conceived by the state govt, is to develop a multi-functional, open, and built infrastructure for cultural performances, concerts, and public art exhibitions. It aims to promote regional and national art forms, music, dance, and theatre to create a tourist-friendly destination that will boost the local economy, support livelihoods in the cultural and creative sectors, and enhance public engagement with culture, especially among the youth. "Bengal has a rich tradition of art, music, dance, and cultural expressions with many theatre halls, convention centres, and auditoriums. However, the facilities often lack dedicated and inclusive spaces where cultural performances, public events, and concerts can be hosted in an organised, accessible, and vibrant environment. The aim behind developing the centre is to fill this gap. The centre will serve as a vibrant public space where traditional and contemporary cultural expressions will co-exist," said a govt official.
