Precious water goes down the drain as Parvati Nagar pipeline leaks for 10 Days

Nagpur: Barring the unseasonal rain of the last two days, the city has been sizzling under scorching summer. Even as the city stares at water scarcity, residents of Parvati Nagar in Kalamna are helplessly watching thousands of litres of clean, treated water go down the drain every day.

While water scarcity grips several parts of the city, in Parvati Nagar, four major leaks in a newly laid water pipeline haven't been unrepaired for over ten days. The spilled water is flooding homes, damaging property, apart from attracting snakes and scorpions into residential areas.
The leaking line was laid under the Amrut 2 project around six months ago. Locals allege that the trouble began when the line was charged about ten days ago, triggering multiple leaks across the stretch.
"There are four major leakage points," Nilesh Tighare, a local resident and Yuva Sena's Nagpur district chief, told TOI. He listed the leakage spots as near Mohtura Layout, inside Parvati Nagar, near a road turning in the locality, and in front of Era School. "At each location, the water flows continuously when the line is opened for two hours. Multiply that by four, and you'll understand the scale of wastage."
TOI tried to contact officials from the NMC water works department, but they did not respond.
Residents claim they informed the water works department soon after the problem was noticed, but their complaints were ignored. "I even spoke to the supervisor and other officials. They acknowledged the problem but took no action," said Tighare.
Tighare, who visited the site after receiving multiple distress calls, said, "This is inexcusable. In an area where people struggle daily to get drinking water, thousands of litres of is going waste because of negligence.

It's a crime against the people."
Following his inspection, Tighare approached zonal offices. "NMC's water work department officials admitted the matter was brought to the supervisor's notice earlier, but no action was taken. The concerned officer then issued orders to shut the water supply line completely until repairs are carried out," Tighare said.
In the meantime, residents are living in appalling conditions.
Ground floors have turned into swampy zones. "We're told to save water, but our homes are flooded with it. And when we request tankers during actual shortages, we're asked to wait for days," said a resident.

Uzbek woman's dark trail: Forged Aadhaar, fake marriage; Lucknow's shadow network uncovered

LUCKNOW: A 48-year-old Uzbek woman, Lola Kayumova, accused of involvement in human trafficking and sex work, had reportedly been staying illegally in Lucknow for more than seven years. Although official records list her as married to local resident Janak Pratap Singh, he has denied being her husband. The certificate, issued by a Lucknow court in March 2019, states that Lola and Janak were married on 30 January 2019 at IIMRT Business School, Vipul Khand 6. It lists Janak (38), son of Ayodhya Pratap Singh and Maharaja Devi, as Lola's husband. However, Janak told TOI over the phone, 'I'm not married to Lola, though I know her for long time. The document of marriage certificate is forged.' When TOI visited Janak's residence in Tulsi Vihar Colony, Rajajipuram, the house was found empty. A neighbour, who wished to remain unnamed, said, 'Janak's mother and his brother left to undisclosed location abruptly on Tuesday morning.' Lola's Aadhaar card, issued on 1 August 2021 and updated on 21 April 2025, also lists Janak as her spouse. The address on the card is Orchid B, Omaxe R1, near the UP Police headquarters. She previously lived at Ambrosia D, Omaxe Residency 2. Anoop Kumar Srivastava, owner of the Ambrosia D flat, said, 'Janak had introduced himself as house agent to assist Lola in getting a rented flat. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em São João D'aliança (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo She used to pay Rs 17,500 per month. Uzbekistan had reportedly issued an Interpol notice against Lola, but the grounds remain unclear pending her arrest. She was last spotted near Mayur Vihar, New Delhi. Officials confirmed she remains at large. Sources revealed that Lola was also connected to Thrijin Raj (alias Arjun Rana), who falsely posed as a journalist. Police have charged Thrijin and Dr Vivek Gupta under various laws including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Registration of Foreigners Act, the Foreigners Act, and the Immigration and Foreigner Act. Dr Gupta is currently untraceable. According to sources, Lola lured vulnerable Uzbek women to India with false promises of employment. Once they arrived, their travel documents were seized. Thrijin allegedly helped them acquire fake Indian identification, while Dr Gupta reportedly performed cosmetic surgeries to make the women appear Indian. They were then forced into prostitution. Two rescued Uzbek nationals, Holida and Nilofar, told authorities that several foreign women were brought to India through Lola's network, with many undergoing surgeries at Dr Gupta's clinic.

Raipur Couple Kills Disabled Man Over Land Dispute, Hides Body In Cement-Filled Trunk

Last Updated: Preliminary interrogation revealed that Raipur-based lawyer Ankit Upadhyay and his wife conspired to kill the victim Kishore Paikra A gruesome murder case unravelled after the body of a disabled man was found encased in cement, stuffed inside a suitcase, and locked within a steel trunk dumped in a residential area of Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The investigation quickly led police to Delhi airport, where a married couple suspected of orchestrating the murder was arrested, The Times of India (TOI) reported. According to Raipur SSP Lal Umed Singh, preliminary interrogation revealed that Raipur-based lawyer Ankit Upadhyay and his wife conspired to murder Kishore Paikra following a dispute over a land brokerage deal. 'The murder was motivated by a financial disagreement after Paikra was allegedly cheated in a land deal," Singh told TOI. Investigators tracked the suspects through CCTV footage, which showed a car entering Raipur's DD Nagar on Monday. Two men are seen getting out of the vehicle and unloading the trunk containing the body, while a woman with her face covered followed the car on a two-wheeler. Police suspect the car bore a fake number plate. The investigation uncovered that Paikra, who was wheelchair-bound and lived in Handipara's HMT Chowk, had earlier sold a plot of land in Mohadi village with Ankit's assistance for Rs 50 lakh, but allegedly received Rs 20 lakh less than agreed. When Paikra threatened to file a police complaint over the missing payment, Ankit and his wife allegedly planned and executed the murder. The couple, originally from Changorabhatha village, was flown back to Raipur late Tuesday after their arrest at the airport, TOI reported. First Published:
