Selangor lawmakers to receive briefing on Putra Heights gas explosion
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the session would be conducted by the technical investigation committee, comprising representatives from the police and the Occupational Safety and Health Department.
"The objective is to ensure that all elected representatives clearly understand the facts of the incident and do not form their assumptions," he told reporters after launching the Plastic-Free Campaign 2025 Series 2 here on Sunday (July 6).
"The briefing will be held after tomorrow's sitting as most of the issues involved are technical. Once briefed, the matter can be brought up and debated in the state assembly," he added.
Also present was state Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
The Second Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly will be held from July 7 to 18.
On June 30, the Selangor police chief, in a special press conference regarding the Putra Heights incident, stated that no elements of sabotage, foul play or negligence were found in connection with the underground Petronas gas pipeline explosion in Subang Jaya on April 1.
Following the findings, the state government formed a special committee to review the full investigation report and propose appropriate follow-up actions.
The committee would also consult various stakeholders, including federal agencies, particularly in areas related to disaster management and public communication surrounding the incident. – Bernama

'Collaborations are needed with major retailers to signify a stronger commitment to reducing plastic waste,' he said, adding that more time was needed to cultivate new consumer behaviours. 'Our approach is more than a policy. It is about creating a culture of sustainability.' Amirudin said all 12 local councils in Selangor have been tasked with facilitating the transition. 'Outlets like supermarkets, convenience stores, hypermarkets and fast food outlets must also comply,' he said. Amiruding also said that by choosing reusable cloth bags and rejecting single-use plastics, everyone could contribute to a cleaner and greener future. 'In events like today's, reusable bags and tiffin carriers were given out as a way of affecting long-term behavioural change.' On a separate matter, Amirudin said a detailed technical briefing regarding the April 1 gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights would be held following today's State Legislative Assembly sitting. 'We want everyone to understand the real aspects and not perceive the issue wrongly. 'What is important is that we want to move forward. 'On legal proceedings, we leave the matter to those affected,' he said. The state assembly session will run from today to July 18 at Selangor State Assembly Building in Shah Alam.

Selangor to enforce no plastic bag policy across all local councils
KLANG: The Selangor government is finalising amendments to standardise the No Plastic Bag Day policy across all 12 local authorities (PBTs) in the state. State said this forms part of a broader strategy to tackle plastic pollution systematically. 'The amendment process is expected to be completed this year, with wider enforcement of the No Plastic Bag Day to begin early next year,' she said during the Plastic Free Campaign Series 2 2025, launched by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Jamaliah highlighted that the state will collaborate with various stakeholders, including NGOs, businesses, and schools, to promote sustainable alternatives. 'Present with us today are various parties who play an important role in tackling plastic pollution through awareness initiatives, recycling innovations, and upcycling efforts,' she added. The state is also enhancing the portal to serve as a hub for coordinating plastic-free initiatives. 'Through this platform, organisers such as PBTs and schools can collaborate with NGOs and companies to share resources and ideas,' Jamaliah explained.
